Central District D1 Brackets

http://www.cdab.org/sports/bk/boys/2017/bd1brkt17.pdf

A rather too heavy region this year with Newark and Pick Central as the clear 1 & 2. Bradley, UA, W. South and Northland at the next level. A big drop off after that. Observations about the brackets:
1. Bradley (3), UA (4), Northland (5) and Groveport (7) in the same district. Wow! No fear of Bradley. However Bradley is well coached and an excellent defensive team. Still, UA is the team to beat in my opinion.
2. Westerville South (6) got a ridiculously easy draw and should make regionals. Don't let the record fool you, South is still South and you don't mess with the defending state champions.
3. Hard to pick a dark house but keep an eye on Pickerington North (9). They are battle tested with a rugged schedule. Any OCC Ohio team will be trouble especially Gahanna who may be overlooked. They are young but talented.

Eager to hear your thoughts!

Looks like a rather disappointing district tournament. Only bracket #1 will be contested with Hilliard Bradley, Upper Arlington, and Northland in it.
Newark, Pickerington Central, and Westerville South should walk through their brackets easily.

Pick North could give Newark a real battle and St. Charles has a 6'11 guy to go against South's Kaleb Wesson. Reynoldsburg beat South earlier in the year. Still, Newark and South will be heavy favorites to win their districts. Pick Central will not be challenged at all in their district. Not the depth that we had last year in the Central District. Will the state champion come out of Central Ohio?

I think a Newark/Pickerington North district final would be pretty good. I saw Picktown North at Flying to the Hoop, and they looked like a worthy opponent to me.

It is interesting that everyone bailed out of Picktown Central's bracket. It's not as if the Tigers have blown out everyone. It's as if Sullinger has returned to Northland or something.

I also think a Westerville South/St. Charles district final would be interesting as well.

I believe the district finals will be every bit as good as last year, and there are several teams that are state title contenders. Just as a reminder, here's the bracket from last year.

Quite a number of tight ballgames in the first round, in addition to the Olentangy upset over Westerville North. It looks like it will likely be Dublin Jerome taking their best shot at Picktown Central in that district final.

Marysville must have been very tired having to play both Hilliard Davidson and Pickerington North, though.

Gahanna only winning by 3 over Mt. Vernon surprised me. I was surprised at North losing to Olentangy but that was their 3rd game against each other this year. Jerome and Coffman strike me as the best matchup this week.

Well, there were a couple more upsets. I really have a hard time seeing anyone other than Pickerington Central coming out of their part of the district brackets.

Quote:
Mifflin 71, Dublin Scioto 68, OT: Bahati Haralson made two free throws with 6.5 seconds remaining in overtime, and Mifflin (14-9) hung on for a Division I tournament win at Dublin Scioto (15-9). A three-pointer by Scioto's Jackie Winchester rimmed out as time expired. Haralson had 16 points, Jeremiah Jackson 14, James Watkins 13 and Jamal Dorsey 12 for the Punchers. Jackson made a tip-in as time expired in regulation to force overtime. Brandon Vertolli led Scioto with 22 points. Winchester added 17. Mifflin outrebounded Scioto 41-23.

Dublin Coffman 59, Dublin Jerome 54: Dominiq Penn scored 16 points, and Dublin Coffman (12-10) won a Division I tournament game at Dublin Jerome (18-6). Zach Watson topped Jerome with 14 points.

St. Charles 69, Tri-Valley 43: Nick Muszynski scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and host St. Charles (21-2) shot 61 percent from the field in its win over Tri-Valley (15-7).

I don't see Coffman's win as much of an upset. Jerome played a soft schedule in a weak Cardinal Division. Coffman played a tougher schedule and beat UA. Scioto and Mifflin was a toss up. Nobody will come within 20 points of Pick Central. St. Charles is playing well but I don't think they've beaten an OCC team this year.

Harrycrane is an unknown quantity at this point
I think Pick C is going to with the state title , Westy South and Newark can test them no doubt but they seem to have too many answers for anyone to deal with
