Why or why didn't you attend the state finals games?

or me they are the same time as the Ohio games.

By watching at home I can...well could watch both.

I only watched or will watch the Ohio games on TV and listen to the Kentucky games online.

I think 12-15 bucks a pop for any high school game is to much.

The last year they were in Canton/Mass.

What was the price if you walked up to the gate?

What was the price if you pre-ordered for all seven games?

Thanks.

Not attending:

The high school state championship games played in front of a stadium that is more than 3/4 empty is not appealing.

That atmosphere at the shoe doesn't hold a torch to that atmosphere at Canton/Massillon.

The best example that I have is Kirtland vs. MSML. While I am sure that some of the kids are excited to play in the shoe. That is a game that screams PBTS.

1. I have no close relative in the games.
2. I am neither Jared Fogle nor Jerry Sandusky.

YMMV

I love the fact Ohio has finally followed so many other states, with playing the games in the college or pro stadiums.

What I hate is the increase in ticket prices/parking/concessions.

With all of that said, I say rotated them throughout the state, at high school stadiums only.

Live out of state now so won't be attending. Did contemplate making the drive to watch St. Edward (5 hours one way). Just didn't make sense with work and personal schedules. Would have been nice to see friends from the Eagle community this weekend but didn't work out.

Back when we lived in NEO, I would usually make it to at least one or two games when it was in Stark County. When in Columbus, it would only be for a game that I had a direct connection to.

Obviously the longer drive is a factor in terms of length. But I really don't enjoy the atmosphere in Columbus versus the venues in Stark County. I'm just old enough to remember the 1980s games in the Shoe and the entire run in Stark County plus now the move back to CBus. Ohio Stadium high school games just give me a mismatched feeling of venue relative to the event. I get it if the whole "Ohio Stadium" aura does it for you. It doesn't do anything for me. I like Ohio Stadium...for OSU games when it's full and has 100,000 plus screaming fans wearing scarlet and grey in it.

I agree with this as well. And it doesn't have to be "high school" stadiums but at least appropriately sized stadiums, i.e. 30,000 or less.

I always enjoyed our games at PBTS, but I much prefer driving from Maria Stein to Columbus than from Maria Stein to Massillon. The atmosphere is what you make of it. It'll be roughly the same amount of people there making the same amount of noise.

Most do not have the option to buy from the schools.

10 Bucks is my limit on high school games.

I do believe no high school game should cost more than any college game.

...like quite a few have said already, I love the Buckeyes and The Shoe, but not to travel to Columbus for the high school state championship games, it's just too big for this event. I'll listen to games at work today & stay at home tonight to watch the night game.

If they want the games in Columbus, I'm all for that but put them in larger school stadiums down in that area like Westerville Central or Dublin Coffman.etc

I hate the venue. (Too big)

Cost is outrageous! $15 ticket and $5 to park.

In Canton, had a sweet spot I could park free on the street and tickets were $9-10.

Liked not being on a campus and dealing with all the other bustle.

I didn't go last year but will go to D! and D4 this year.

I am a NE Ohio guy and I am biased to that area.

I'm a Basketball Official and I am not giving up my Friday Night Assignment or my 2 Saturday Assignments.

If it wasn't for that I would be there.

Especially tonight to see my Alma Mater Win Back to Back State Titles.

I wouldn't go If the Games were in Stark Co. to long of a drive, for televised games, from Cincinnati.

Coffman will never have them.

I love Crew Stadium as a venue and they have the parking to do it. UA is close and holds 11,000. I think there isn't an ideal HS venue in Central Ohio. NE and SW have the places to do it.

Not going.

I have to work 2 of the 3 days and why should I pay to go when I can watch all 7 games at home on my couch with my son when no schools I am affiliated with are there

I couldn't go today because of work, but I'm driving down tomorrow to watch the games. About a 3 hour drive from NEO for me.

I bet this is a pretty cool experience for the players to be in this stadium. Many Ohio kids dream of playing for OSU and very few have that happen. Lots of kids will have a great memory from playing in Ohio Stadium.

A couple ideas on how to beef up attendance:

1) Do some kind of creative marketing/promotion to get butts in the seats. Maybe a 4 pack of tixs with a concession discount or get a sponsor to back a cool give away to bring in kids?

2) Move the games to Thanksgiving Weekend and move it out of Columbus and around the state the weekend of the tOSU vs UM game. Many people are off on Black Friday so those afternoon games would get much better attendance.

3) Still have the super Div I but go back to 6 Divisions. 2 days with 3 games each day makes for a nice concise football event. That Thursday evening game sticks out like a sore thumb, you should also get more competitive games.

I don't like the Shoe as the Championship venue but if my team was there, I would go. Ticket prices, concessions, half empty stadium, parking, etc. all would be worth going if you're a true fan of your team and they were there playing for a title IMO.

Agreed. It feels like you might get more attendance from schools in the games (especially if they haven't been before or recently) for the OSU factor (for those so predisposed to be influenced by that kind of thing) but lose some of the casual, walk up fans due to the ticket prices, concessions, parking, etc. at OSU. Ticket, parking, program, minimal concessions and you're at $30 for one person in CBus.

Browns Ravens Monday night tickets were $10, lol high school might be better quality but NFL still should cost more

I guess the first question is does the OHSAA care about attendance?

For years we heard how NEOhio has the best fans while many others from around the state complained about the drive.

Now that the games are in Central Ohio, many from the NE are complaining about the drive (even if it is still significantly less than Cincinnati had to drive all those years). Welcome to our world for the past two decades.

Bottom line is if you are a supporter of the team/school, you should be there. If you are impartial, the reality of the cost and having the games on TV make not worth the hassle.

The games were not drawing well in Stark County and they are not drawing well now. IMO that has most to do with TV and not as many care anymore.

It is on TV. It's that simple.

Does anyone know if the Blackwell has open rooms that weekend for visitors? I wouldn't mind spending the extra money to stay on campus for a few days. I looked a few weeks ago for this weekend but it was all booked. I don't know if they have any rooms that weekend or not.

Reasons:

Not Attending
1) Our team isn't in.
2) games are in Columbus ? OSU stadium takes the enjoyment out of a HS game.... even 20,000 fans is empty and noiseless... Great for OSU... not for a HS game..

Will Attend
1) our team is in
2) Games are in stark county / or in a better site!!

My suggestion

Tickets 7 Bucks a game

Move the games up a week

If you are going to have them at a college site.
Parking free
Concession should be held at same prices as they are at a high school game.

The cost bothers me not at all. If I went I would get those seats that give you access to the Huntington Club between games.

But it is cold outside and the game is on TV.
