Finals are $15 per game for 7-game books... ???

http://www.columbussports.org/events...championships/

So, according to the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, to whom the OHSAA has a link, the 7-game books will be $105, totaling $15 per game. They supposedly give "priority seating." I can see the top-five-in-the-world Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center for that exact amount per concert. So... good luck with that, Columbus. I'm sure every game will be a sellout... and I'll take a $7 Coke with that.

Priority seating in a place that holds over 100k?

And so it begins, the first (well, not really) of meany reasons to come of why it was a bad idea to move the state championships to Columbus.

First?

I think reasons have been listed regularly on here since they originally announced the decision.

I would think most folks are over it by now. As i said above, the priority seating thing IS kinda funny.

"Priority seating"? That's my laugh for the day. I can't believe anybody could actually think that was a good idea to publicize.

And for $15 per game and with it now being in Columbus and with all the games being on TV, there's almost no chance of my ever going down for a championship game.

How large is the market for entire books of tickets?

I've gone to several individual championship games over the years, but as much as I enjoy HS football I wouldn't even consider going to all the games...even back before the TV coverage.

I would guess most fans at each game are directly there to support the two teams? Most casual fans are going to watch it on TV.

It used to be quite significant. I bought the books every year for decades. But, when attendance dropped after they started with the live TV in high def, it got a lot easier to get a seat on the 40, so why bother?

If by "priority seating" they mean near the 50, the only effect will be that you're surrounded by troglodyte fathers kvetching about every call and the noisemaker mothers who don't know the rules.

OHSAA's going to be in a bit of a pickle. They're about to damage the "brand" of the finals at the same time they're going to put that brand up for sale. Or to put it more bluntly: after next year, these games are going to be seen as a lot less desirable.

In the face of that, they'll be looking for a new home. But who wants them? Stark is a bit of an unknown right now: the relationship between OHSAA and Stark was a bit strained at the end, and many of the organizers were somewhere between lukewarm and indifferent to mounting a bid for their return. OTOH, there's been some significant turnover at the higher levels of the Stark group, so the new blood may be more enthusiastic.

Maybe it's the perfect time for SWO to swoop in. But remember: vultures only eat the dead.

Let's see how these games go in Columbus for a couple of years before declaring it a failure. If they get more money by having the games on TV than they do from ticket sales, it's not going to matter to them who goes to the games. If the ticket sales are their biggest revenue driver, than obviously only show the games on a delayed basis.

The OHSAA verdict on that is already in on that. They want the TV money, period. And, as soon as they decide to stream the games on line, the only people going will be parents and students... yaaaaawwwwwwnnn.

How about people who enjoy going to a football game for $5.00 or $6.00?

Jeesh. You must be perverse to expect such perversion from people who enjoy watching a football game in their local town.

You are aware that there are family friends and community members who support the kids in their community? You have some psychiatric issues if you see "pedo" in everyone.

So, if the game is a 30 point blowout and the clock is running continuously in the 2nd half, will my ticket be pro-rated and will I get some money back. Just my jab at the finals being in Columbus and the mercy rule.

With all the crying we've heard from our southern Ohio friends, $105 should be a drop in the bucket with the reduced drive. I would expect Cincy folks alone to bring 40 or 50 thousand .

Rolling on the floor laughing my butt off. I predicted this would happen and its only the beginning. Moving the games out of Stark Co will prove to be a dumbazz idea. Tickets, food, parking, shirts & memorabilia ? It will be priced out of the H.S. market. Goodbye attendance.

I KNOW I'm NOT GOING.

+1 on good luck with that

Yeah since NEO had it in their own backyard for X number of years and no one ever brought that many people and were sometimes even outdrawn by their SWO counterparts.

I've always heard that NEO has the greatest football fans, so I'm sure they'll be willing to travel a little and pony up.

We've been doing all the work for some time now and have only heard how not so special Stark County is, enjoy the empty stadium, and whatever else that will come with this fiasko.

Put them in Dayton and it would be equal to what it was in Stark. Columbus is closer, maybe we'll actually see them in SWO before long. If a traditional power and/or first time SWO team makes it to state in any division I'm sure you'll see the results just fine.
