Tipp has a good team. There is a good article on them at www.pressprosmagazine.com Yes Cole Barhorst is back this year.
BB will have a tough game.

I can see Carlisle getting steam rolled at home against a very very good Franklin team. Carlisle lost almost everyone from last year. The offensive line and defensive line is gone. We have some skilled players but it's not going to be the same smash mouth running game as last year.

I see us throwing the ball a lot more this year.

as bad as i hate to say it:

Franklin 34
Carlisle 10

Eaton certainly has fallen off in recent years and hasn't recovered at all. It's awfully strange seeing a once competitive program throw up losing seasons for this length of time. What has happened?

I can see Carlisle doing this for a few years. Our numbers are completely falling to a dangerously low level. We have 40 kids this year. That's not such a terrible thing sometimes but when they play both sides of the ball, you will start to see more injuries as well.

Not when you realize their offense is ran by Dixie’s old head coach. I know he took the only team in school history to the playoffs, but he also “inherited” one of the best teams in school history his first season. The following 2 seasons he was unable to adjust & adapt to the talent he had available. That’s why I like the current staff at Dixie. They run a system but make the adjustments based on their talent pool. It may not be a winning season, but it’s better than going 0-10 & start every 2nd half with the “Mercy Rule”

Low numbers yes! Last year also 45 maybe. You lost 3 lineman this year but you lost 4 starters last year. You lose a all state dlineman and lb boy was defensive player of the year. But losing Reed the best RB in program history will require some major adjustments. I would expect you get the ball to Chambers down field as often as you can. Mays a big Lb looked very good at times last year. They will have to out speed people this year.

Carlisle seems to be competitive often. Over the last 10 years no program has had the success the Indians have had.

My 2017 Predictions for the SWBL:

SW Division:
1. Franklin
2. Valley View
3. Bellbrook
4. Brookville
5. Oakwood
6. Eaton
7. Monroe

Buckeye:
1. Milton Union
2. Madison
3. Carlisle
4. Preble Shawnee
5. Dixie
6. Waynesville
7. Northridge

Expectations have to be high for both VV and Franklin. Franklin returns the most talented offensive weapon in the league. VV only lost 6 seniors from last season, most of which ended the year on the injury report. I think both teams are not only capable of winning the SW Division, both are capable of making a strong push in their respective regions come playoff time. In the Buckeye Division, MU looks to have a good season. I think Madison and Carlisle can be playoff teams if things fall right for them. All in all, I could see 3-6 playoff teams if things go right (Franklin, VV, BB, MU, Carlisle, and Madison).

If Healthy...Monroe will surprise people this year. New look on Offense and Defense. A strong senior class with some Juniors that are talented including the QB. They have a lot of guys going both ways so staying healthy is the key. The Hornets go 7-3 with a top 3 finish in the league.

I know Norwood went 8-2 last year and returned a lot. But if the Hornets play like that I see more of the same. With that said, the offense did look good and they may be able to score with people. The defense will definitely need to shape up if they are going to have a good season. "If" the Hornets can get through the first 3 weeks at 2-1 they may have the confidence to win some in the league.

Norwood struggles with discipline. Monroe can win this one. Milton beat them in the playoffs back in 2012 51-8. Wasn't close. Norwood was touted as a world beater that year.

Bless, Monroe scrimmaged Norwood and plays Edgewood this week. I think Monroe has a chance but not a good one. I hope I am wrong.

Uh if Edgewood doesn't get the QB center exchange straightened out , Edgewood wont beat anybody. You cant fumble 8 or 9 times a game and beat anybody. Uh, I will say Julian Pletz looks like one of the top kickers in SW Ohio.Strong leg.

No way for Carlisle, but imo Brookville and/or Oakwood could sneak into the play-offs.

Same thing happened to VV and we are just now starting to climb out of it, a lot of it has to do with the talent pipeline drying up for a few years, also coaching changes and "daddy ball" have been a factor..

Since VV last deep run in 2005 (11-2) lost to Monroe in REG finals

2006 (3-7)
2007 (5-6)1st round playoffs)
2008 (7-4)1st round playoffs)
2009 (7-4)1st round playoffs)
2010 (6-4)
2011 (2-8)
2012 (4-6)
2013 (10-2)2nd round playoffs)
2014 (6-4)
2015 (5-5)
2016 (10-2)2nd round playoffs)

People who grew up in VV in the 90s and early 2000s aren't really used to seeing 3-4 looses in a span of 3/4 years let alone one single season.. a lot of the "downfall" had to do with a couple of VV classes not having the talent or drive like the players in the past had. VV went through a transition of coaching changes and we are just now starting to climb out of the hole

Monroe has some of the same problems. 2009 was the last team Monroe had that was a regional title contender. Monroe had a period between 2007 and 2010 where there was 3 different head coaches.

2010- (6-4)
2011- (5-5)
2012- (2-8)
2013- (1-9)
2014- (7-4)
2015- (6-4)
2016- (3-7)

I do believe there has been a talent drop off like any public school but for me the numbers are the most concerning. I think the Hornets are under 50 players 9-12 again.

Valley View looks like it is back but I don't think Skidmore has more than 5 years left and that hire will be very important once the time comes.

Offensive line has got to be better, looked sloppy at times. Biggest take is the Franklin defense and defensive line is very good and fast. Fenwick was completely shut down on offense and picked up maybe 3 first downs against the first team D.
How did Glossip and Figliola look on the D-Line? I know Glossip is experienced this being his 4th Varsity year, But Figliola I know it's only his second year starting.

I think all public schools go through droughts. When I was going to school at Milton in the 70s and 80s we were very good. Northmont and MU were the Dayton areas two winningest programs of the 70s.
Valley View and Versailles were two top programs in the90s.
It's cyclical. I see Valley View coming back.

It's hard to believe Eaton's numbers are so down right now. They were in the Regional Finals just 7 years ago. It's a naturally swoon though in the smaller public schools. It happens. Hopefully they'll build it back up.

What's the word on Brookville this year? Oakwood? Haven't heard much about either.

After my idiotic outburst last year I haven't visited this forum until now but I'll try to give y'all the run down of Oakwood. On the offensive side: most of the offensive line graduated, QB & all but one skill player return. On the defensive: most of the d-line graduated, every other lb/db returns except for one. The offense runs the spread still. The defense changed to a 5-2/4-3/3-4 hybrid. The defensive coordinator is now also head coach Butch Snider. Snider was a successful defensive coordinator at Beavercreek including a win at Wayne. If the linemen and defense holds up then I can see a successful season, however if they don't then it will be the same case as last year. They looked great against West Carrollton but it's West Carrollton. Too early to make predictions at this point.

Well boy am I excited! Tipp will be traveling to bellbrook today and once again we invite another gwoc team to battle! The program is in great hands and heading in the right direction coming off a 7-3 season! We return a boat load of players and bring in 2 great classes (freshman and sophomores, last years freshman stepping up )

Tipp returns a ton as well and looks to run the ball aitht their stud running back while bb looks to do the same with a host of backs ! Game will be much like last nights game in terms of run, run, run and run some more lol! Our strengths are definetky our defensive and offensive lines , we are big, nimble and fast upfront on both sides of ball! Tipp returns ALL their offensive line and is poised to make another big splash in the gwoc in year number 2! These are 2 good programs, both looking to set the tone and put their respective conferences on notice (not that tipp isn't ) their legit. I know the view and franklin will be waiting to see how this game turns out!
Thoughts?

Similar games last year

Bellbrook 14- Fairborn 6
Tipp 45- Fairborn 44

Franklin 42 bb 14(bb had multiple turnovers and wasn't prepared for Montgomery at all)
Franklin barely beat tipp in first round of playoffs after a crazy comback ! Someone plz help me with that score ?

Good luck to all my fellow swbl teams and supporters! Let's Carry that flag high tonight !
