Boardman 2018
Practice has started so let's get it started. Some talented returners back this year. O'Horo at QB. Ieraci back from his knee injury at RB, Huzicka at TE and then 4/5 OL returning led by Arcuri. Going to have a nice blend of talented sophomores and juniors this year. Will need someone to step up at WR. Should be close to another playoff berth in my opinion.
Schedule:
Youngstown East
@ Howland
Massillon Jackson
Erie McDowell
@ Mooney
@ Canfield
Warren Harding
Ursuline
@ Fitch
@ Ashtabula Lakeside

They did. Lost to Massillon in the 1st round.

4/5 on the OL? Should be some high expectations for this group.
I have them penciled in as the toughest team on Jackson's schedule if they stay healthy.

Boardman gave Massillon a good game who then made it to the State Semis. As far as Harding being down they should be better then only winning 2 games last year.

Absolutely they will be better then last year, just a year away for the raiders, they will not be a push over by any means

I'm expecting playoffs again but that's baring any major injury and coaching meltdowns like we usually get every couple games.

Boardman probably would have been in the state semis last year had Joe Ieraci not gotten hurt in the Steubenville game...they were winning that game 21-14 before he went down on defense just before half. Heck, had they beaten Massillon they probably would have anyway as a mere shell of what they were the first 3.5 games. The offense just sputtered after he went down, and looked like they did in previous seasons. It was wide-open before then.
It's been kind of quiet but expectations are pretty high I think. Lots of talent on this team with some more experience. Arcuri on the line getting some nice D1 offers, he could be an FBS prospect (might be already). And apparently the kicker has been developing quite a leg over the summer. Special teams should be an asset this season, though replacing our punter may pose some challenges. The JVs had a great season last year, and the freshmen had some good individual talent if not an overall deep class.
Should be 2-0 going into the Jackson game. Don't think East and Howland will cause any problems for us. Imagine Jackson, Mooney, and Fitch being the toughest challenges.
The Perry scrimmage should be a barnburner, might be two of the best public D2s in NE Ohio.

It would be a major disappointment if this team didn’t make the playoffs with what they have returning, especially with a quality QB like O’Horo.
I think they should have 4-5 back out of the starting DL/LBs so should be solid up front on both sides. I believe they need to replace both corners though.
Kicker returns, who was solid as well.
I’d say 7 wins + should be expectation. There’s a lot of good teams on the schedule but I’m not sure anyone elite that Boardman shouldn’t at least be close to equal to on paper.

Just a shame Boardman is back in R5. Hoban and probably Hudson/Benny will be tough to top. R7 will likely be a duel between Massillon and Perry.

Canfield, while they lost a lot, returns pretty much both lines and has talent in the backfield. I’d expect them to be very competitive.

If at least 6 wins don't happen, something went very wrong. Talent is there.

I told a friend that the Boardman-Massillon game would likely be the regional championship game. Whoever won it would have a good chance to be in the state semi. Boardman definitely has a tougher road through the playoffs this year if they make it in.

Interesting to see we dropped Big Red and picked up Erie McDowell on a 2 year home and home.

McDowell is a one year home-only I’m pretty sure. I know Poland comes on the schedule in 2019 and 20. I think East will likely need to be replaced after this year with their split into East/Chaney. I’d also guess Lakeside might not stay on much longer with leaving the AAC.
I’d be good with a Cleveland or Akron city school for one spot and a decent/good D-1 or 2 team as other.

I'd like a Hoban/St. Ignatius/Benny/Hudson type on the schedule regularly.
Basically the ideal Boardman schedule is
a city school
2 Fed/Stark schools (Jackson+ 1 of Perry/Massillon/Hoover/Green/Lake)
4 SVC schools
2 valley AAC schools (Canfield, Howland, Poland)
a wildcard against a big dog

This was my first thought when jumping into this thread. R7 is seemingly weaker, but 6-4 Mayfield qualified in R5 with 13.8000 last season. R5 is heavier at the top vs. R7. At least the potential travel is shorter than trips to Columbus or Mount Vernon for a neutral site game vs. a Columbus school.

That's right, forgot about Poland coming on next year. Should be interesting to see what Gorski does going forward.

Perry has to replace most of their O and D lines due to graduation. Basically two starters on each. That will be a big question mark heading into the season. Also, they are replacing a three year starter at QB and all but one DB.
Following Perry for many years, this years team has more questions than the last three teams. They do have a talented backfield, the QB, FB and WB all have good speed, but they’ll only go as far as this green line will take them.
That being said the scrimmage with the Spartans will be interesting on many fronts.

They are indeed. Boardman had a home and home series with them a couple years back when the Spartans football program was very down so Poland had 2 easy wins. Funny how that worked out lol.

lol the second one was in OT, and had Boardman's FG kicker not gotten injured in a soccer game that week they'd have probably won. I think that was a 9-1 Poland team and 2-8 Boardman...So those next 2 games might be the last ones we see forever. I think Poland's K/1st grade class has been down around 100 if not less sadly.
