Best Purchase Ever

30 years age a neighbor was having a garage sale. Back in the corner was this big dirty box that had wood inside. 31/2 feet wide, 4 1/2 feet long and 3 feet deep. They where storing fire wood in it. I ask if it was for sale. Yep. everything goes moving away. $10.00 plus the small amount of wood inside OK deal
I removed the wood and I found it had a hinge cover door on top, sides had a decorative metal corners also. It was heavy I wheeled it home on top of my kids wagon.
I to was going to use it as a wood box for firewood. However I saw that it was made of pure Cedar. Custom made Cedar Chest. I striped, sanded to bring back the Cedar and refinished w/ beet juice stain (many be $100.00 time and material). Friend whom is in the antique business has ask me every time he comes over to buy it, $1500.00
I have know idea of what the attraction is other than it is big, store a lot of blankets and sweater and smells great.

What has been you best purchase?

There used to be a magazine called the Washingtonian and they usually carried five or so pages of personal ads. My future wife put in an ad and I answered by letter, hence the stamp, and survived some pretty strong competion to win her over.

The ring to marry my wife. Cannot believe she said yes but she has made me a far better human being than I was pre-marriage.

Conquistador and Vaquero by Tesoro a Makro Racer and Garret pro pointer with Jolly Rogers headphones.
I love simple and fast as most sites I hunt are full of Iron trash etc.

Looking at getting either a Makro Kruzer or nox 800..I like the speed and layout of makro and even though the 800 probly has the edge on depth and salt water I never liked mine-lab products mainly due to speed and format..but I did hear the 800 is fast.

I feel like I don't know English.

"Iron Trash"

Ok, that's a new one. Those robots living in trailors?

What are you talking about, sounds like racing skateboards but I don't see how "iron trash" comes into it?

Actually I beat out a doctor who might have had a Harvard diploma somewhere along the way. My future wife went out with him a few times and then he invited her to his house. BIG MISTAKE. Turned out the guy was a hoarder with sracks of newspapers and magazines everywhere. She immediately dropped him because as I later found out she was a neat freak.

Only a detectorist knows how much metal or other conductive trash is in the ground from human habitation. Even in a country new to metal (besides copper)...it is very common to have 5-10 targets within one shovel full of dirt.

I hunt mostly pre civil sites with little modern trash. So my main culprit is "iron trash" and there is a bunch of it, rose heads and square nails especially can throw a very good signal if your machine is not super fast at prepossessing targets/ separation.
Iron decomposes and gives a halo effect along with rust and orientation are absolutely frustrating until you become one with the machine.
Even with many thousands of hours of detecting experience and the best equipment Iron Trash will mask targets better than anything else.

Anyone can find a good target with almost any machine but throw in a whole bunch of iron trash and only the most experienced will do well. A detectorist with 20 years experience and a 150$ machine will almost always outperform a person with 3000$ machine and a hundred hours of experience.

My first ďmajorĒ purchase after getting a job out of college was a queen-sized memory foam mattress off overstock.com for between $400-$500.

At that point I still had my childhood mattress (double) and had actually started getting back-pain which I (correctly) assumed was due to my mattress.

My parents said I was a moron for buying a mattress I hadnít laid in before buying. Reviews on overstock were all great though and a similar mattress in-store wouldíve probably been closer to 2k which I couldnít have afforded at the time.

Sure-enough when it came it was extremely comfortable and my back pain went away the next day. I couldíve gotten a double or full sized a little cheaper but you gotta go queen-sized at least as an adult IMO (assuming u arenít Pboy)

I would love to hit all the old home and farm sites in the Cuyahoga Valley Park. There are many from well over 150 years ago. They won't allow it, and no one is likely to ever do it. Are you well-spoken and photogenic ? You could make an A&E TV series of it if you are that good with the machine.

King size bed. I'm an extremely light sleeper and my girlfriend is not to say the least. The extra space has improved my sleep tremendously.

My guess is, if you never touched those shares you bought in 1967, you have about $6M in Disney stock.

Bought a '69 Shelby GT350 in 1997 for $22K / been offered $70K
(it's not for sale) ~ this car is driven to events / on a trailer.

Very good.

'Nam did the reverse to my uncle. Worst sale ever.

He sold the silver '63 split window Corvette he had bought new with money he had saved from painting houses in the summers, before he got drafted. Didn't see any need to keep a car, and put the money in a passbook savings account.

At least he got lucky and was sent to Hamburg, Germany.

Some banker bought the car for his kid. Unc was told that the kid totalled it

Thatís great. I had a great aunt that never married who had a mid-level job at AT&T for over 40 years and died over 10 years ago with over $8M in AT&T stock. The entire family was shocked. Itís impressive and kinda sad at the same time.

That would work for me but when I get into the really good stuff I would have the cameras turned off and sent away. No one would believe it's not a plant anyway..."fake"
