Questions on repeating 8th Grade

Hello I would like to bounce a few questions off of someone whos child has repeated 8th grade. Would like to know if/how effected his JH & HS eligibility in regards to OHSAA. Please reply to joetwau@gmail.com or in thread if you'd like, but am looking only for input from someone who has been through the process or familiar with the process. Thank you in advance for your time.

Hope you find the answer you are looking for, but generally the restriction is only on the "ending age"; so he/she won't have an issue until possibly their Senior year, if they are older than the maximum allowed age for HS competition.

There is also a rule about 7th through 12th grade consecutive years that only comes into play if you wrestle for your actual JH school and not club.

Bylaw 4-2-2 (7th/8th Grade Age Limitation)

Bylaw 4-2-2

If a student enrolled in grade 7 or 8 attains the age of 15 before August 1, the student shall be ineligible to participate in 7th & 8th grade interscholastic athletics for the school year commencing in that calendar year.

Im guessing your referring to the rule that states 4 semesters starting from beganing of 7th grade and 8 beganing at the start of Freshman year. My question would be; would this than effect the student if he repeated the 8th grade. Would the athlete than be ineligible the second 8th grade year and still have all 4 years of high school eligablty upon becoming a freshman after the second 8th grade or could eligibility began during the second 8th grade(student would not turn 15 before Aug 1st of second 8th grade)

If he does not compete athletically for 3 years (7th, 8th, and 8th again) then he would have 4 years of high school eligibility. He can compete athletically for 7th and both 8th grade years, if he (dad) so choses, but then will only have 3 years of high school eligibility.

Not sure anyone has ever intentionally chosen this route, especially if a high school state championship is the goal. Seems self defeating. Most take the second 8th grade year to train in a club, lift weights, and take *cough* "supplements". This time can also be spent *wink* hitting the books or *wink* *wink* work on interpersonal skills.....since I'm sure that is the*wink* *cough* *wink* real reason for repeating 8th grade....
