Trotwood 88 Springfield 73

Trotwood came to Springfield Friday for a battle between two of Ohio's best and came away with an 88-73 win.

Springfield dominated the first quarter, jumping out to 10-2 on 2 treys from Danny Davis and 4 points from Leonard Taylor. Torrey Patton picked up two fouls and sat most of the first for Trotwood. Springfield led 23-14 after 1. Despite Patton picking up his third early in the second Trotwood stormed back, thanks mostly to Myles Belyeu, who had 19 first half points. Trotwood grabbed their first lead of the game at 34-33 late in the second. A late 3 from Leonard Taylor gave the Cats a 41-38 lead at half.

The third quarter was tight throughout until both Leonard Taylor and RaHeim Moss got into foul trouble and Patton started to heat up. With the Cats up 56-55 Patton completed an and 1, putting Trotwood up 58-56. A Springfield FT made it 58-57 but Trotwood finished the third on a 5-0 run, including a trey from Patton as time ran out putting the Rams up 63-57.

The Rams extended the lead to 76-65 with 2:50 left, but a three from Mike McKay cut the lead to 8. With about 1:45 left Mike Wallace committed a hard foul and Belyeu pushed him drawing a tech. Trotwood made one free throw and Davis connected on one of two for the Cats, but failed to cut into the lead as he missed a three on the ensuing possession. Leonard Taylor fouled out, then he was hit with a technical for not leaving the floor. It appeared he didn't realize a sub already came in and as Trotwood was about to shoot a free throw the Trotwood bench pointed it out to the official. That pretty much sealed the game as Trotwood connected on 3 of 4 FT's then hit 5 more pushing the lead to 17 before Springfield emptied the bench with about 50 seconds left.

Belyeu finished with a game high 27. Amari Davis added 21, and Patton finished with 19, 15 in the second half.

Leonard finished with 25 to lead the Cats despite foul trouble I the second half. Trotwood really did a masterful job on Davis, holding him to 4 points after the 5 minutes of the game. He finished with 10. McKay never really got going and finished with 7. Moss and Wallace each tried to pick up the slack finishing with 10 ad 12 respectively.

Trotwood finishes the regular season at 20-2 while the Cats fall to 18-3. The Cats close out the season with a home game against Miamisburg on Saturday.

I'm sure both teams are happy they can't see the other in the tourney. The Cats for sure won't see a team this athletic until deep in the tourney.
