2018 Ryder Cup

Outside of the Masters probably my favorite golf event to watch, especially the 2 ball and 4 ball matches on Friday & Saturday. I like the US chances even though they are the visitors and I especially think that Jim Furyk is the right guy to be Captain. And then you have Tiger starting to get back into the groove. Only down side is that the matches will be played in the very early morning, coverage starts at 2:00 AM on Friday & Saturday. I guess grab a bagel and coffee and enjoy some golf before starting your day.

We have two of these going now. I messed up and missed your's Auggie. I'll lock mine.

Really ugly afternoon. The US always seems to struggle in foursomes. Curious to see what Furyk does with Mickelson.

Saturday morning pairings-

Koepka and Finau vs. McIlroy and Garcia

Dustin Johnson and Fowler vs. Casey and Hatton

Woods and Reed vs. Molinari and Fleetwood

Spieth and Thomas vs. Poulter and Rahm

If I was Furyk, I would be more likely to play Mickelson in the fourball than the foursomes.

Interesting stats from Friday afternoon's carnage-

* The Americans played a collective 12 over par compared to Europe’s four-under total.

* Every American pair was at least 3 down at one point during their matches.

* No match made it to the 17th hole. Two of the matches didn’t even get to the 15th.

* On the front nine, thee Euros combined to win 18 holes while the Americans could only take three.

At this point, they just have to shake it off.

Mickelson has always been better at fourball than foursomes, so Furyk stupidly does the opposite. So far not impressed with Furyk leading this effort, but hopefully things turn around on Saturday...

Furyk is an idiot.
As soon as he selected Woods, who has more losses than wins, the stupidity started.
And the stupidity just continues.
Furyk was just interviewed, sounds like a doofus.

Well, an ugly morning. Glad to see Phil solely as a spectator today. It is a long way back from down 8-4.

Johnny Miller just told me they may be having trouble with the temperature in the 50's. If that's the truth, what a bunch of p******* we have.

Furyk's made some strange calls, but the shot making and decision making of the US players is the primary reason the US is getting its @$$ handed to it. I just watched the perfect example with DeChambeau knocking it in the water right after Molinari when he could have backed off and put the ball in the fairway and easily won a hole.

Tiger has been terrible at the Ryder Cup for a long time and now he is getting ready to go 0-3. Phil has always been better at fourball than foursomes, so should have played that the first day.

Between Furyk being a terrible captain and the players doing nothing now, this is going to be difficult to overcome. Not looking good for the US...

My best guess:

Rory McIlroy vs. Justin Thomas- Thomas wins, Euros up 10-7

Paul Casey vs. Brooks Koepka- Koepka wins, Euros up 10- 8

Justin Rose vs. Webb Simpson- Rose wins, Euros up 11-8

Jon Rahm vs. Tiger Woods- match halved, Euros up 11.5 to 8.5

Tommy Fleetwood vs. Tony Finau- Fleetwood wins, Euros up 12.5 to 8.5

Ian Poulter vs. Dustin Johnson- Poulter wins, Euros up 13.5 to 8.5

Thorbjorn Olesen vs. Jordan Spieth- Spieth wins, Euros up 13.5 to 9.5

Sergio Garcia vs. Rickie Fowler- Garcia wins, Euros take Ryder Cup and my least favorite golfer and biggest whiner dances like a fool.

Francesco Molinari vs. Phil Mickelson

Tyrrell Hatton vs. Patrick Reed

Henrik Stenson vs. Bubba Watson

Alex Noren vs. Bryson DeChambeau

Good start for the US that has completely fallen apart through the middle matches. The end is near.

Garbage. I donít give a hoot what Tiger thinks. He is a horrible cup player. Picking him was a choice to select a proven loser.
The pairings, and overall use of players, was horrible. The pairings are about what Europe would pick if they could choose who they wanted to pair up against.
Nobody but Furyk would be ignorant enough to pair Dechambeau with Tiger, a proven loser.
Fact - Tiger is a great golfer.
Fact - Tiger is horrible in the Ryder.
Tiger plays for one thing - Tiger.

Interesting info from an article I just read-

Phil now has 22 losses in this event, the most of any player in history on either side. Tiger has 21, the second most. That's not a fluke, not a small sample size (they've played 83 matches between them)... In a sense, it is fitting they each passed their captain Jim Furyk, the previous loss leader (20).

On top of the vets being bad, some of the US young guys seem to have no substance. Dustin Johnson, as number one in the world, should be a leader, but always looks like he's going through the motions.

Sounds like Patrick Reed and his wife are stirring it up. Safe to say he'll need to make the team on points from here on in. LOL. Not sure why you'd stir it up after the way he played. On Saturday morning, one observer estimated him as shooting 85.

Didn't watch a minute of Ryder Cup, and it doesn't look like I missed much. Can we just say that the Euros are better "team" golfers than the US players are?

Sounds like no one on the USA team liked Patrick Reed's approach.
