Talk to me about bats!

OK..relatively new to the baseball scene. Need some advice on bats. Son is 15. He has 31" Easton BBCOR bat now, but I need to get him a 32". Going to be playing his first season of travel ball in 2019. I have questions:

1. Is BBCOR the standard for his age?
2. What about USA and USSSA? I can't imagine he should have one of each
3. Wood? I know he will need one. How many should I buy given the likelihood of breaks.
4. Wood...Maple, Ash, Bamboo???
5. Any recommendations for non-wood that is a nice balance between $$ and performance?

Searched the forum but didn't find any serious bat discussions so I thought I'd ask. Could be a nice break from all the tryout posts.

Thanks in advance!

BBCOR drop 3 is a high school requirement. We bought one good maple bat for 60. and a couple of cheaper bats for 30.00.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand BBCOR is the high school requirement, but is it also the requirement form summer ball tournaments at 15U?

BBCOR is the standard -3 for HS players.. As for Wood bamboo is illegal at every tournament you attend, id recommend old hickory if you a looking for good piece of wood

15u bbcor

For 15U travel baseball in the state of Ohio BBCOR will also be a requirement just like it is in OHSAA rules for high school baseball. Hope that helps out when you go bat shopping.

Get a Demarini. Best bats in the game. If you get a big stick it will break. They’re notoriously weak, also bamboo suck. Don’t pay more than $60 for a wood bat.
