New Transfer Rule Question

Trying to make sure I understand new transfer rule. Boy A played at a public high school for his freshmen and sophomore years. Boy A moves to another city. Does not want to play at the public school there but would rather play at the private school in town. Boy A would be eligible to play all season, correct?

Yes, move of residence is one of the exceptions to the transfer rules. Of course always work with the AD at the new school to get everything sorted out correctly.

Interesting. That seems like a pretty gaping loophole for OHSAA, who are actively trying to minimize private school transfers.

Why shouldn't a family that moves to another city not be allowed to choose the school they want to attend?

The family that moved should be able to send their student to whatever school they please. Transferring players who don't move have to sit out the second half of the season and post-season. I'm just saying this seems like a loophole for players who are trying to take advantage of transferring to a new school with no repercussions.

Possibly some people will exploit this loophole but closing it will unfairly penalize those with valid reasons for moves.

The OP is a little misleading here....this was the original exception when transfer rules were implemented...nothing new here.

EastYoungstown will become famous soon enough
If you actually move or have a transfer of custody, all the issues go out the window.

I believe there is also the exception where if you transfer back to your home district you do not miss games.

Right. Amazed at how often people are unaware of this on this website. Moving has been a transfer rule exception for longer than most people on this message board have been alive.
