Northern Buckeye Conference 2017

Practice is a just a week away. Who wins the NBC this fall? Will Eastwood repeat?

Too early to predict but based on last year and what I think returns, here you go.

1. Eastwood - even with new coach I think too much skilled talent not to win
2. Genoa - same here but maybe a year away
3. Otsego - surprised a bit last year but I think they are decent
4. Rossford - good coaching and good system will beat more than half the teams in the NBC
5. Lake - if the line can play well, they may be able to bump to 3rd
6. Fostoria - getting better but just can't break thru
7. Elmwood/Woodmore - recent history says cellar belongs to one of these 2

single wing is an unknown quantity at this point
1. Eastwood - return something like 18 starters from last years team, including their whole backfield. But they open up with a gauntlet of a non-conference schedule (Ottawa-Glandorf, Bowling Green, and Maumee)
2. Genoa - Plantz, Bradfield, and Bench will provide a sufficient punch for the Comets. NBC championship game will come down to the Eastwood/Genoa game week 9
3. Otsego - solid core coming back, I think they go 7-3 again
4. Lake - young last year, should see improvement, 6-4
5. Rossford - tough opening 2 wks (BG and Port Clinton) - I think they can still surprise some people in the NBC, 6-4
6 - 8. Fostoria, Elmwood, Woodmore fighting it out.

I think the conference will be a little more balanced this year with 5 five teams having solid units. Last year NBC teams went a combined 12-12 in out of conference play. Hopefully they can grab a couple more W's this year to help out with playoff points.

From what I've gathered:

Lake vs. Huron - Flyers moved the ball a bit, but struggled at times. Huron scored a couple of times, and Lake did not. Lake was without one of their key returning players.

Eastwood vs Clyde - Eagles scored 3 touchdowns, and had some big plays against the Fliers. Clyde scored a couple times, but Eagle defense played well for most part.

Genoa vs Maumee - Comets played well moving the ball and scoring a couple TD's. Maumee looked good as well with their running game. Both teams pretty evenly matched

Eastwood 3-0
Genoa 3-0
Fostoria 3-0
Lake 2-1
Otsego 2-1
Rossford 1-2
Woodmore 1-2
Elmwood 1-2

NBC goes 16-8 in out of conference play.

Eastwood and Genoa seem to be the teams to beat thus far. Fostoria is a nice surprise to see, we will see how they compete with Eastwood, Genoa, Lake, and Otsego.

Otsego @ Fostoria this week should be a good indicator to see where the fostoria team is. The teams they have played are combined 1-8

Otsego finally seemed to expose Fostoria a bit last week. Fostoria will likely lose to Genoa, Eastwood, and Rossford yet but a 6-4 season would be respectable for them.

Genoa seemed to handle Lake rather easily. And Eastwood beat Elmwood as expected.

I did hear Genoa's quarterback may have suffered a significant knee injury during last weeks game.

6-4 will be an improvement for sure form what weve seen the last 5 years from Fostoria.

Otsego looks like a solid balanced team and a solid QB see them 7-3 losing eastwood and genoa.

Eastwood, not much to say here they are rolling.

Any update on Genoa Qb? If serious do they have a solid backup? This could take them from 9-1 to 7-3.

Rossford is solid but not up to par with the top tier, I see them getting beat by otsego as well as the top 2 teams.

Woodmore and Elmwood? Don't know anything other than these two have both struggled mightily. We'll see what happens with these two and fostoria fighting for the bottom 3 spots.

Otsego beats the Plantz-less Comets tonight. That's two years in a row for the Knights.

No other surprises tonight in the conference.

Eastwood, Lake, and Fostoria all rolled to victories over Rossford, Elmwood, and Woodmore
