Congrats to an excellent Flyer team!! Well done!!

Kirtland is a very good team, but ML proved today that they are an EXCEPTIONAL team. Almost complete domination by ML on both sides of the ball. ML and Minster also proved that the MAC is playing at a much higher level than other parts of the state. Congrats again to ML, Minster and the MAC!

And for those excuse-makers out there, turnovers and bad breaks didn't beat Kirtland today, ML did -- soundly. Convincingly. No doubt about it. ML was the better team by a mile.

For those non-ML fan trolls that seem to come out every year after a MAC school wins a championship and starts with crap like "....yeah, but they can't beat D1-D4 schools," etc..., just stop it. It's a totally irrelevant line of argument that is clearly intended to minimize the continued accomplishment of ML and MAC schools. The Flyers deserve all of the accolades of a champion. ML is second only to Iggy in total football championships over all divisions. That should be celebrated, not attacked.

Again, tip of the cap to ML on a great win and class program!

To my Hornets, you made excellent strides this year, and there's no shame in being state runner up. Take this game as a reminder of just how high the bar of excellence is set in your division, and as a goal for next year!

Great season, and Merry Christmas to all!

If you have an issue with the divisional setup, talk to the OHSAA about it. Otherwise tell your boys to get back in the weight room. They're going to need it.

There clearly is a genetic component involved. I used to run service calls to homes all over western Ohio, The MAC area intrigued me as a young man because in the area North of Dayton where I live I would be a rather tall man, but in Mercer county I am very average.

Did a little research and found my family in Germany came from a very similar region as many of the Mercer County Catholic families.

Great area with little influx from outside and you have the recipe for genetic markers that give a little extra height,

With Honda influence in Anna, I am wondering how they compare in average height to a school like Marion Local?

Pretty sure St Edward and St Ignatius kids don’t need to be told to get back in the weight room.

Nice try though.

I don't believe anyone from Marion Local has ever come on here and said they would even compete with the class teams of division 1 or could win the D1 title. If you want to say that our talent is not near a D1 powerhouse, I would completely agree. I would say that Marion Local could compete with anybody as far as execution, discipline, fundamentals and coaching. Across the board, we do not have the talent of a big time division 1 program's roster. We do and have had some very good players who could have played and started on any division 1 team's roster though.
Marion Local in a normal year averages 25-35 boys per grade. Of those boys, roughly 66% of those boys participate in football and the remaining boys are in some sort of extracurricular activity. Almost the entire roster started kindergarten at Marion Local. Another thing I noticed is that approximately 90% of the boys who played football at Marion Local this year had at least 1 parent, grand parent and even great grand parent who graduated from Marion Local. This is pretty typical every year. Our biggest percentage of move ins are Marion Local graduates who go to college, get a job in the city, settle down and start a family. When their kids are about ready to start school, they try to move back home so that their kids get to experience the uniqueness of living in this great small community. Marion Local was recently ranked as the 7th best school in the state of Ohio as far as education. We were the only non private school in top 10 of the list. We are also 1 of the least state funded schools in the state per student. Our students are getting a private school education at the price of a public school education.
I have had the luxury of watching my youngest brother play and win a state championship under Tim Goodwin and I have been fortunate to so far have 2 of my sons play for Tim Goodwin and be a part of 6 state championship teams. At no time did I ever think that these accomplishments are diminished because we are a small school program or there are too many divisions. You can not put a price or value on the life skills, values and confidence installed in these players by being a part of the Marion Local program.
After all these years of watching Marion Local football, my biggest source of joy out of all of it is that when I watch a game on Friday night, I get to see my family, friends and neighbors kids succeed and the great pride that it gives the Marion Local community when they have these great accomplishments. If that is what being a big fish in a mud puddle is all about, then sign me up.

I’m just having fun at the expense of the few posters and other people I’ve heard make the insane claim that they’d beat the champions of higher divisions. That and the thread about the states best program which was started by an MSML fan.
Not taking anything away from the kids and the fact that they’re the best D7 team in the state, by a lot.

Anna has kids playing for them now that what you would call Anna names.....I think they do get some boys from the Sidney school district, but for the most part are Anna boys...and by the way, Anna has some big kids too... while just competing in the MAC in football( not a big fan of that arrangement) they have the biggest school district

The funny thing about this and his previous post is that no matter whether it’s Marion Local, St. Edward, or St. Ignatius, they’re all just kids playing in mud puddles.

Gone requires an auxiliary verb. Went does not. In this case both would be correct. #stupid

So you were less than the median height at 6'4"?

Good lord, my senior class at Mogadore (back in 1996 football season) we honestly (out of about 27-30) MAYBE had 4 kids over 6', and the tallest was like 6'2". The rest of us ranged from 5'4" to 5'11.

I realize this only rates the public schools in Ohio, but might give you a little insight before you go ragging on us of small public school education.

Oh, you pointed out something my phone auto-corrected

You obviously don’t know what an auxiliary verb is either.
And why are you using apostrophes instead of quotes? Odd

I have a good friend that is 5'10" tall, grew up in the area thinking he was short. Has since moved from the area. But, to this day, will comment that he hates to attend church when he comes home for the Holiday's with his family. He says," Its bad enough that I can see over only a few of the men, but I cant see over half of the women in church either".
He is happy that 5'10" is above average height in the rest of the world.

But as for the topic at hand, I'd make MSML heavy favorites over the D5 champs and slight underdogs to TM and Steubenville. For what that piece of conjecture is worth.

While I slightly disagree with your use of the Theory of Forms as it would apply to football, I seriously appreciate a poster with knowledge.
The problem with Plato’s theory is that it’s based on a static corresponding form. Even in regards to animate objects, it doesn’t allow for variable change within each object. Only change in diminishing returns.
I like that as there will never be a perfect triangle, there will never be a perfect football team. That works.
As football teams have variable levels of talent and ability each rendering (team) becomes less perfect. That also works.
However each diminished form, corresponding with its next closest rendering doesn’t allow for the later to be superior to the former on any given day.
Meaning the level at which a football team may play runs contrary to the basic principle of in my opinion of what Plato was after.
So while the Patriots may be our closest rendering to a perfect triangle a diminished rendering of that triangle, let’s say the Dolphins could still be superior given which form of the Patriots show up.

Within the hierarchy of Greek philosophers, Plato really stands out IMO. So many of his theories run contrary to both Socrates and Aristotle that it’s surprising how closely they are related and how knowledge and theory trickled down from one to another.
What would be fun would be dissecting their philosophies in relation to their upbringings.
