Thanks for the Info! Surprised he did not play after how successful he was last season.

Sounds like Copley has the edge, with Barberton behind them. Tallmadge & Highland fight it out for 3-4. Revere will be 5.
Curious as to why you think Barberton will finish 2nd?

They were comparable to Tallmadge and Highland last year.

I see it Copley and then everyone else

Thanks for the info. I'm sure he was not in true basketball form coming off football. He is a great basketball player and wish he was in Tallmadge. Sconi and Lydic would have been a great 1-2 punch in the SLA.

I'll disagree. Nance carried a young Revere team. If he gets any help, they should compete for the title.

That is a fair assessment. For the record, Tallmadge also had 3 starters out due to football.

He was certainly their best player, but I’m still not sold. At that height in our league he should have 10-15 a night on put backs alone. He should be able to post up any player in the league right now, and score at will. He isn’t close to that. Unless he turns into an inside presence, they won’t win the league.

You have to remember that Revere really didn't have a second player last year. Copley was loaded with players to compliment Brenner. Tallmadge had some nice outside shooters to open it up for Francesconi. Highland had good athletes that played hard for Rittman to do his thing. Barberton had three go-to players who could take over at any given time.

Barnes and Nance were two of the best players that really had no help on their teams. The difference is Nance made his team competitive every night.

If Revere developed any of that younger talent, they should be a load this year.

Does anyone know when the Copley transfer become eligible? Assume they have to sit out games?

I don't believe that Copley is open enrollment. If these players moved into the district, they will not have to sit.

If they originally open enrolled to one of these other districts and are returning to their home school, they would be eligible right away.

Correct Yap, Copley is closed enrollment, so any and every one on the team has to live in the district.

Just out of curiosity, why is Copley closed enrollment?

I think that you would find that most inner-ring suburbs started off as closed-enrollment. Coventry was the one exception early on in the 90s. This was the case in all the major cities (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, Akron, Dayton, Youngstown).

As these inner-ring suburbs found a way to control their open enrollment, some of them opened up their schools to a few new students. Basically, they didn't want to have a flood of new students. So if they found a way to limit it, they opened it up, if they didn't, they are still closed-enrollment like Copley.

So all of these transfers moved into the district and are eligible right away? I would also assume they all had to file paperwork with the state showing a bona fide family move and reason. My understanding of the rule is that if it is not a bona fide move by the family (job relocation, etc) and they played the sport at their previous school, they have to sit 50%. Am I wrong in my interpretation of the rules or are the rules just posted and no one follows or cares?

All it takes is a change of address on a piece of paper, not a physical move. Happens all the time. OHSAA isn't going to come knocking on your door.

Only thing I'm sure of is that anyone that transfers that plays sports has to file paperwork with the OHSAA. After that I can honestly say I've lost track of all of the changes that have been made over the past 5-6 years on eligibility. At one point I thought that an actual physical move into the district made you available to play right away but that very well may have changed. Reading those by-laws will make your head hurt. Ultimately OHSAA has the final say on when the kid can play, so what they say goes.

That may be true but the Copley school district will. Just a couple years ago they cleaned house of the people going to their school that did not actually live in the district. Some parents were dropping their kids off at bus stops and using grandparents addresses. It got kind of messy and made the news.

Good for Copley!

Maybe he'll change his mind next year. He would have probably been JV and dressed a little varsity this year.

Yes correct. And 4 more juniors on JV. 12 juniors all together. Next year will be interesting.
