Got to see some of the new arena not to long ago and I must say I'm very impressed. Love the new video boards and the "pro style" hoops that are being put in. This is a beautiful facility. I'm not a huge fan of the court style though and hate to see Wade E. Miller go but that's the way it is. Will be interesting to see Middies home games on a bigger court!

Return of EJ

With the start of the season tonight at Wade E. Miller hosting Kings, I heard a rumor that EJ Williams is returning to Middletown. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Having his size on the inside, albeit after sitting out half the season for transfer rules, could be a plus for the Middies coming tournament time.

In coaching news, I saw that Pete Pullen signed a couple of coaching contracts to help the Middies. Hoskins pulling some Dayton strings here...I like it.

Not arguing that point all.

Not sure havent heard. Middies had a nice win tonigth in the last game at Miller Gym. Was shocked it wasnt more crowded though. I thought it would be jammed pack since it closed out one of the most historic gyms in Ohio history.

Friday and Saturday night's games to be televised!

MIDDLETOWN
The final basketball game at historic Wade E. Miller Gym and the first game at Miller Arena this weekend will be broadcast online thanks to a Middletown church.

Stratford Heights Church of God has volunteered its television production equipment to be used for Friday’s last game at Miller Gym and Saturday night’s first game at Miller Arena. The games will be streamed live on the church’s website, SHCOG.com.

The longtime broadcasting team of Lenny Robinson and Marty Flesher, who covered the Middies for many years on TVMiddletown, are teaming up for these two history-making games.

“These are special games and it will be a treasure to have them broadcast and recorded,” Aaron Zupka, Middletown’s athletic director, said in a statement

Ray Phillips, senior pastor at the church, said while Miller Gym opened in 1952, his church’s heritage dates back to 1915 having started on Clayton Street.

“We appreciate the heritage both the Middies and we have in Middletown and, by being able to broadcast these games, it is just one more way we can help serve our community,” he said.

Robinson said it was important to broadcast these games so history could be preserved for future generations.

The Middies play Butler County rival Hamilton on Friday, then Lima Sr. on Saturday.

A limited number of tickets remain for sale for both nights and fans wishing to attend these two games should not wait for getting tickets at the door, said Zupka. Tickets are on sale at the athletic department office in the Manchester building.

The GMC has some of the best basketball gyms around for sure. I've been to everyone of them but the best memories were right there in the old Wade E Miller.
In the coldest part of the winter that place was steaming hot. But I found my own little spot that was nice and cool in the upper tier near a window with a BB hole in it. I sat in front of that little hole for many years until they replaced it with glass block. Dang it!

I'm with you LovelandMiddie--the Miller is a special place. My first memories are as a 10 year old going to the Miller to watch Class AA Sectional tournament games--specifically Hamilton Taft vs. Hamilton Badin as it was Badin's first year as a school taking on one of the two big public schools in Hamilton. It was jam packed and was extremely hot as you noted. The weather was about 15 degrees outside and the windows were open to keep the fans comfortable. Truly what a HS tourney game should be!

I was fortunate enough to play a few games in Miller as a player and get to coach as an opponent to the Middies in the late 80's to early 90's--always a great atmosphere for players and fans, especially seeing the State Champion banners hanging high and proud. Finally seeing my sons play for Mason vs. Middletown always created special memories as a parent--circle of life.

Soak it in tonight because there will never be another Wade E. Miller Gym that creates so many memories for so many basketball fans in southwest Ohio.
