ESPN ditches 'Barstool Van Talk' After One Episode: https://www.si.com/tech-media/2017/1...pn-one-episode

I checked out their Pardon My Take podcast in the past and thought it was total frat boy humor, reminded me of this forum back in the day. So no big surprise the PC police at ESPN ditched these guys but why even sign them in the 1st place?

I watched about thirty seconds of a barstool podcast (or something, idk) and turned it off because they all seemed like enormous dbags. Not a big loss for ESPN imo, considering when the show aired once a week at 1am

But it does show that ESPN continues to make stupid decisions regarding content and personnel. So that is funny

Every time I remember Pardon My Take is the #1 sports podcast in the world, it makes me lose my faith in humanity.

I have found most people from the New England area to be generally repulsive. Very loud, annoying and they think they are the sh-t

What is so bad about pardon my take? Never listened to it. I don't follow barstool sports. Only thing I know of it is the costs punter retired to work for them

You either have to be incredibly stupid, or delusional to think there was any way to distance yourself from the site. Either way, Skipper has to go. This won't hurt ESPN $ wise, but it's a colossal PR Failure.

ESPN should've learned from the Jemelle Hill fiasco, you can't make everyone happy. I'd feel bad for them, but it was this team, along with Bob Iger, who put the network in this position.

As an Award Winning Listener/Viewer, I'm not surprised this happened. ESPN tried to distance itself from Barstool while at the same time trying to work with their biggest stars. Pardon My Take did deliver what they promised though, they were up over 100% in the M 18-34 demo vs the previous week. I was watching ESPN2 at 1:00 AM on a Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning, if it wasn't for them I would have been asleep. #Viva

I'm not a fan. I like the more Xs and O's, in game discussion, but they seem very popular among 18-34 yr old men. I've read some of their stuff and they just try too hard IMO.

I did get a good laugh when they tore down the old CEO of FanSide for being a hypocritical tool.

A few weeks ago, this made a little noise because ESPN show host Samantha Ponder tweeted a luke warm welcome to the barstool folks. A few years ago, they had a Twitter war and really put out some disparaging remarks about some of the female staff at the worldwide leader.
My guess is some of these females at ESPN went to management and "encouraged" them to distance themselves from these guys. I'll admit, never saw the show, just heard it was a little crass and was basically like broadcasting a few dudes sitting on their living room couch talking sports.

More layoffs coming

http://awfulannouncing.com/espn/espn...ater-year.html

Would be a perfect time for ESPN to axe SC6 and a few other shows. Skipper doesn't have the balls to do it though

This next round of layoffs is expected to hit SportsCenter pretty hard. Let’s hope for Jemelle Hill to be freed from ESPN so she can tweet whatever she wants.

They'd rather crash and burn the whole network than get rid of the Six

Absolutely zero chance that happens. Only way she leaves is on her terms.

News from yesterday, but Disney is considering a purchase of 21st Century Fox and all of the Fox Sports regional networks, plus YES Network and maybe B10 Network for $60B. FS1 not included. Would give ESPN the rights to all MLB, NBA and NHL regional broadcasts for teams who do not have contracts with AT&T or Comcast RSN's. Would really shake up sports broadcasting.

Hope it doesn't happen because ESPN will f up the RSN's somehow. I like the way FS Ohio is run now.

Would also give Disney all of Fox's movie rights..... which means an old nerd like me finally gets the X-Men in Disney's marvel universe.

Yes.

Quote:
Even after the release of Fox's final Star Wars film, Fox continues to earn profits from the franchise due to DVD sales and distribution revenue.

Despite The Walt Disney Company's 2012 purchase of Lucasfilm Ltd. and the release rights to all future Star Wars films, Fox still retains original distribution rights to Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which they co-produced and co-financed, in perpetuity in all media worldwide. Fox also retains theatrical, nontheatrical, and home video rights worldwide for the franchise's five subsequent films, which Lucasfilm produced and financed independently, through May 2020, at which time ownership will transfer to Disney. This complex relationship between Fox and Disney, particularly in regards to Fox's perpetual rights to Episode IV, creates an obstacle for any future boxed set comprising all nine films.
