Then why would you think my question is somehow my stated opinion?

There are 2 questions here, neither of which you answered.

The only statement I made was that there not any FA on the market that's in their price range right now.

So I should just assume it was a stupid question and not your opinion that there is nothing left to do besides fruitlessly chase Ohtani or FA out of their price range other than take a two month vacation? Okay, noted.

It was reported that Kelch was told the franchise is going in another direction and was simplifying the broadcast team. As far as I know, Jeff Brantley, Chris Welsh, Jeff Piecoro and Jim Day. Doug Flynn and Grande are very part time guys. Day did some play by play and you wonder if he's going to get more game assignments, not the dugout stuff.

Personally, Kelch was ok but not fantastic. If there was one of the staff that I had to eliminate, it was probably him.
Reds broadcasters are not "real news".

Nick Senzel being asked to come to camp ready to play 2nd, SS, LF and RF is.

Since there is very little player moves at this time, not much else to talk about. Let's just hope we don't turn Senzel into a utility type player where he's a liability on defense everywhere he plays, but we have to find a spot for his bat. I don't like those kinds of players,

If the Reds are set on keeping Suarez at 3rd (and it looks like they are) then the obvious spot for Senzel is SS. There aren't a whole lot of other positions open at this time.

Considering he's played little shortstop, I don't see that happening. He may start at shortstop in Louisville, but you need to have a competent shortstop at the major league level.

My guess is Dick Williams will have all kinds of trade options on the table involving Suarez, DuVall, Hamilton... not that he's going to move them, but he's listening. The more positions Senzel can play, the better chance they can get him in Cincy sooner. But we are all assuming that he can hit at the major league level, so it's still wait and see.

The Reds should definitely move Surez to short and put Senzel at 3b for a decade plus. I would think they’d be shopping Surez if they aren’t planning to move him to short. No way do they not give Senzel 3b long term.

Unless the plan is to make Senzel a right fielder.

I think Winker is going to be your right fielder and leadoff hitter for the next few seasons. Let's see if Senzel can hit ML pitching before we give him a job for the next 10 years.

Senzel definitely has the body type of a corner outfielder/infielder.

While Suarez wasn't a great defensive SS he was/is adequate.

P

Not bad, but there is no way Senzel is in Cincy on opening day. In 2016 he was playing college ball. Unless of course of injury. He's simply not ready yet.

RF Winker
SS Peraza
1B Votto
LF Duvall
2B Gennett
3B Suarez
CF Hamilton
C Barnhart

Unless there is injuries or trades...book it.

I don't think one month of triple A is sufficient. I'd say you may see Senzel after the all star break or for September.

Peraza has always hit, every step of the way. I'm guessing last year was the exception and he will get back to hitting this year.

As for Senzel, if he hits in the spring, he's on the team and they find a spot for him. AAA is not a necessity 14Red. Many of the best players skip it altogether.

Yeah, I don’t get Indiandad’s perspective on Peraza, especially in light of his love for Cozart. 2017 was a down year for Peraza at 23, but that was pretty much what Cozart produced his entire career as a Red until last season. The Reds aren’t giving up on Peraza so easily, he’s only 23 and still has a very high ceiling.

Where do they find a spot for Senzel?
It's easy to say he'll play but where do you play him?

Zack always played defense. Peraza is a defensive liability right now. Maybe he puts it together. Maybe not.

Even if Senzel is as bad a defensive SS as Peraza he is still a better option because of his bat.

Peraza had success as a utility player for the Reds. Why not let him succeed in that role again?

Are the Reds so stacked that a top prospect can't break into the lineup? Senzel was #2 pick overall, a great hitter in college, and looks like the real deal in the minors. He could be the 3B answer long term.

We all seem to like Suarez too. And Peraza is young with tons of upside. For me, those 3 all play regularly. Last I checked, the Reds are rebuilding, so Scooter would be my odd man out and he can be utility 2b/3b/corner OF.
Scooter had a great 2017, but was his 2017 the exception or his new normal? At 27, I'm more inclined to believe his track record. I'm playing the 3 younger guys with upside.

If Scooter is your odd man out then he is far to expensive for this team as a utility player. He should be traded then.
I think they will keep him until July at least and see how their pitching is doing. If they are in the hunt, I doubt they trade him.

Peraza did not show that he could grab a position and hold it last year. The year before did well as a utility player. Maybe he can hold onto the SS position this year. If not, Senzel will get a chance. I give it a month.... by May Senzel will be playing SS.

The other option is trading Duvall. While there has been little talk of it, He doesn't really fit the "future" version. He is cheap, good but old (er). Left Field would be a good fit for Senzel as well.

True, but I think you have to give him the nod first, Senzel needs some triple A seasoning. Pump the brakes a little. Although it was reported over the weekend that both Duval and Hamilton are being mentioned in some trade talks, specifically the Giants. Billy in SF's huge outfield would be a plus. Maybe they want to open up left field for Senzel?
