McDonald Blue Devils 17-18

Looking foward to this season. As usual McDonald has one of the tougher schedules in the state...LOL. I wish...It is slightly improved this year. Most of the same teams as last year, but good to see Struthers on the schedule to end the season. Hope that will be a good game to get McDonald ready for the tourney. Devil's will have 2 standout players in Brandon Poole... Sr 6' 5" 215 lbs and Zach Rasile Maybe he is 6 ft tall but one of the best 3 pt sharp shooters in the state. How far this team goes will depend on the supporting cast. Check out this article about the team http://www.tribtoday.com/sports/high...k-team-effort/
Struthers district will not be easy this year with St. Thomas joining in again. Im sure they will be the favorite as usual.
1st game is Friday at Maplewood...
Go Devils

They were impressive in both scrimmages against much bigger schools, beating up Howland and Woodridge. It'll be a 2 man show, but the supporting cast has some good players on it, just not experienced. The schedule is a lot better than last years. Girard is going to be a big test, they are anticipated to have one of their better teams. Maplewood, South Range, Struthers, Lake Center all have had some solid teams recently and are on the schedule. In conference Western Reserve returns almost everyone and will be very good.

As far as Struthers District, and Aquinas, who knows how good they'll be. They are having enrollment issues and their football team fell off a cliff this year with really low numbers. Valley Christian will be a challenge in the district it seems like.

Excellent OOC schedule.

Really have to believe McDonald breezes through the Struthers District.
Very limited competition until they reach Canton.

Good luck Blue Devils!

Exactly. Easy regular season and very easy district. Just a vehicle to pile up stats and wins.

Here is what I took from the game, with the understanding that it was just the first game of the year. It was obvious from the opening tip that McDonald would roll in this game. On one hand, McDonald scored 91 pts and won by almost 40. Although Maplewood was very average, McDonald was able to do this even though Rasile had a below average game overall and Poole sat out for almost a quarter with foul trouble. That being said, Rasile put up 37. Scary to think what he will put up when he is on. Poole will be a problem for most teams to defend. However, McDonald is a different team with him on the bench. Very little height with him not on the floor unlike last year when they had Portolese. He has to stay out of foul trouble and avoid the silly fouls especially against the good teams. Rasile seemed to do a little too much dribbling and trying to go one on one (or two or three lol) when Poole was on the bench and was forcing things a little. They will obviously have to step it up a little against Girard Tuesday and play a little smarter. But, once again, as always, they will be a fun team to watch with their constant full court pressure.

You know exactly what's gone on. You're on the pulse in McD. Way more competitive schedule for his future. Since Kennedy didn't work out let's see where he might fit in in Ohio. Not to mention Cullen's a pretty good coach.

South Range's schedule is not that much different from McDonald's schedule. It would make no sense for Poole to have transferred to South Range for many reasons. Plus, I believe he would have had to sit out the first 11 games. Rumors fly around every year about players that aren't true. But he is at McDonald and that is all that matters.

And, by the way, Rasile is a pretty good coach also.

You can't argue with his winning %. Glad the boys are home where they belong. As far as similar schedules you have to be kidding. I would love to see McDonald schedule Ursuline, Mooney and Salem all twice in a season. That might help them get ready for the regionals after they run through Struthers. Schedule strength is clearly in the hands of South Range. Good luck this season.

In my opinion McDonald could hang with and probably beat Mooney and Salem. Ursuline would be a tough one. Of course, if you are saying they should play those teams twice in a season there is no way that would happen with conference play. But maybe I misunderstood you. Also, I don't remember South Range playing Ursuline last year. Do they play them this year?

SR has no league so they have to play all three of them twice this year. Why doesn't McD schedule tougher non-conference games to get them ready for the regionals? A 17-5 year is not a disgrace if it gets you further in the tourney.

I understand South Range is no longer in a Conference but McDonald obviously still is so they are locked into 14 of their 22 games. They have Niles, Girard, Struthers, South Range and Champion on the schedule this year, 3 D2 and 2 D3.

Wasn't able to get to the Maplewood game last week but will be attendance tonight. Girard isn't an easy test. Looking for a big game from Rasile and Poole

McDonald beats Girard 75-63 despite Poole missing huge chunks of game in foul trouble.

Yep...Rasile kept it close in 2nd qtr with Poole on the bench. I thought Girard would be better. They missed a ton of easy shots. Glad Beedle stepped up in this game and Celli a little bit. Other than that Devil's are a 2 man show. Rest of team gonna have to get more confidence moving toward. The role players looked like they were afraid to touch the ball in the 1st half, never even looked to take a shot. Need to get much better to make noise in the tourney.

In the entire first half the supporting cast really were almost deer in headlights on offense, Rasile was able to carry them with 21 1st half points. The 2nd half they were much better, Beedle made some nice offensive plays, Celli is what he is, and that is a scrapper/hustler that'll get a few layups, and even Rodriguez hit a clutch 3 when Girard was making a little push in the 4th quarter and cut it to single digits. Rasile only scored 3 points in the whole 2nd half and they were able to stretch the lead out. They'll have time to get acclimated. For now they got Waterloo next who doesn't look too hot, then a tough back to back against Springfield and Lake Center that will be another 2 good tests.

Girard missed too many easy looks in this game. Had a ton of layups that they didn't convert. Did a better job second half on Rasile but Beedle (sp?) and Poole really made a difference.

Girard hasn't played great yet. They have started slow and it showed last night. Can't do some of the things they have done; missed layups, lack of communication and other issues, and expect to win that game. I trust that staff will get them going, but they just didn't look great last night.

Girard has a solid team, but one big weakness is height. It didn't hurt them in the first half because of Poole's foul issues, but they had no answers once he got going. Girard played good D and #4 is a really good scorer. I can see a 15+ win season for them
