I know Rogers and Waite have some nice players coming back.

Bowsher lost a very talented Sr class.

Start came out hot last year, but fizzled in league play. What do they do they have coming back?

Not sure about Woodward and Scott, except the 1 game I saw Scott they looked better than their record.

Rogers is loaded with young talent, hope the sidelines is the downfall again.

Lost Ronnie Sanders. What about the transfer from Scott last year? PG? Banks? The Leach kid returns. 6'4" ish. Good frame.

Pretty sure they hired one of the player's dads (a former Scott assistant) as the new coach. It should be interesting. I wouldn't be shocked if they get a few nice transfers in the next year as this guy coached a really, really good youth select team a few years back. The kids stuck together at Scott in junior high and then split to a few places going into high school. I see a reunion coming in the near future at Rogers with transfers coming in from a couple parochial schools.

Still have Banks in addition to Leech. I'd expect Waite to have a pretty nice team.

6'4"? For Waite, that's tall. Tallest since Natasha Howard on the girl's team. We usually like to keep them under 6 foot. If lockers haven't been remodeled since last I saw one, that's probably why. Space limitations.

Rogers, thats how they built the girls team wasn't it? Coach from Deveaux took the Start kids with him?

It's been a while, but I believe you are correct.

It's interesting how in City hoops fortunes have a tendency to change like that. A few years ago I figured Scott would be loaded with sophomores this year and looking like a serious threat for the foreseeable future.

Those two will be tough. Banks will be a very good scorer. Leach looks like classic 3 man, but has had to play the 5 because of Waite's lack of size.

Whatever happened to the huge lineman for Waite, 6'6"-6'7" 270+? Don't think he played basketball last year, but was real solid the year before.

I saw Bowsher scrimmage Stritch. 10 minute quarters with a running clock.

1st 18-9 Stritch
2nd 17-12 Stritch
3rd 23-13 Stritch
4th 15-14 Stritch
5th 10-8 Bowsher

Bowsher has some speed and quickness along with some good size, but just were not clicking yet. They should get better as they gain experience.

I spoke with Big Earl Friday as he's involved with the Rogers middle school teams and he told me Rogers lost at least 10 younger kids to transfers to all different schools.

Saw Start, Rogers, Woodward and Waite at scrimmages over the past few weeks.

Observations
Start is undersized but tenacious on defense. Relentless pressuring of the ball kept them in several games against superior competition.

Waite besides Banks they have a big who was athletic and could score and rebound but not much else. Teams may do what I saw double team Banks and force others to make decisions.

Rogers easily the most talented team in the City League they played a tough Detroit team that beat them for Summer league championship. They were down early but came back and defended and won. Curious to see how the Smith and Smith connection works out. Their first game first v. SJJ will be doozy. Smith may not be physical enough to handle Williams.

Woodward has CJ and that kids has a motor, they also are undersized with biggest player only 6'2 maybe. Coach Knabbs has a ton of speed and guards with talent. May take them a while to gel but they will contend for title at the end.

I saw he was supposed to go, then I saw his dad was made the head coach. No idea how/what happened, but that's all I know.

Blade - Coaches Picks;

1. Waite
2. Rogers
3. Start
4. Woodward
5. Bowsher
6. Scott

Bowsher lost in OT to Perrysburg last night. Not a bad showing for an rebuilding team.

Saw the SJJ vs Rogers game. Vincent Williams was the best player on the floor by far. However the 2nd best only play a quarter and a half before getting injured. #10 Desean Nelson was by far the most athletic and brought a physical presence that Rogers sorely needed. Once he went out no one competed in the paint or on the board. Christian Smith looked tentative and afraid to venture against Williams.

SJJ will get better with Ryan Christie when he is eligible to play. Rogers needs Wyatt to run point. Someone to make better decisions and set the team up.
