YES! And this is why giving position players huge contracts does not guarantee success!

Taco MacArthur can only hope to improve
You just said only 5 teams can be competitive and can be competitive because they have money, dumbazz. You were wrong, again.

^ Duh. Nothing guarantees success. Ever. But your statement is an oversimplification and not very precise. Questions for you:

- you mentioned 'position players'. Are you suggesting that teams give huge contracts to pitchers to guarantee success? Because I would say pitchers get injured and have off-years more frequently than position players.

- or are you suggesting that no one should get huge contracts because it does not guarantee success?

Nothing guarantees success. However... Say you have two choices:

(1) pay $300M each to Stanton, Harper, Trout, Votto, Machado, Kershaw, Kluber, Posey, etc.

(2) Start over and draft/develop 19 year-olds and hopefully you get Altuve / Correa / Springer in a couple years.

Which of these two choices gives you the higher likelihood of success? (1) obviously. I realize no team has the money to chase option (1), but do you agree that it increases your odds?

Teams like LAD, NYY, CHC, etc can partially chase option (1), so they do, because it makes winning more likely. Teams like the Reds need to be much more careful with their $$$.

The Astros day will come, when all those good young guys want to get their big veteran contract. They will either need to pay or do a "Marlins" tear down. But at least they are having their day in the spotlight.

Excellent post
