Temporary Restraining Order issued on Competitive Balance

A Hamilton County Court has issued a temporary restraining order on behalf of Roger Bacon and the GCL Coed Division regarding competitive balance. Who knows what the outcome is, but educated guess is :

New divisions ordered before fall sports tourneys disregarding competitive balance numbers.

Let the public/private separate division talk commence once again

As a '74 Badin grad I'd suggest if they don't like the rule (which passed by majority vote) to then drop out of OHSAA--good luck with scheduling opponents--this is a very short-sided lawsuit by the GCL Co-Ed and Roger Bacon IMO!!

As a '86 x grad, let's get on with the separation and let's start scheduling regionally. I am done with complaining. Look at how other states deal with publics and privates and figure it out.

Badin really got slapped hard by CBA. DI in baseball is a bit ridiculous. Moving them up two divisions in football also is ridiculous for a team that hasnt won a regional in a long time

Wrong, right, or indifferent, OHSAA screwed up competitive balance when they didn't add a top Division. You can't have a competitive balance measure that has know affect on the biggest schools! They aren't moving anywhere so, the attitude is so what. While Lower enrollment schools get penalized for having the same advantage as the big boys but at a much smaller scale..

It amazes me the amount of time and money that our legal system is tied up with for stupidity.
In a way the OHSAA is a private club that anyone(school) can choose to join or not. Everyone has a vote in the way it is run. The fact that you join for free, have a voting say in the way it is run and then file a lawsuit when a vote does not go your way says a lot about the people running the educational institution.

This is interesting, the OHSAA never wants to be in court. Remember the last time SW Ohio had the OHSAA in court?

They didnít get moved up 2 divisions, you are only allowed to be moved up 1 division.

If this fight goes full length it could be the beginning of the separation. 411 schools wanted this and it passed by a margin of 88 votes and 80 members did not vote.

This would have little or no effect on the regular season schedule; there is no
OHSAA rule that says you have to play member schools. Dropping out of
the OHSAA would mean you don't get to play in any of the post season
tournaments.

It could matter if OHSAA assigns computer points to the private schools in a way that would discourage the public schools from scheduling them.

The rule of only one division has been updated and it is now possible to move up two divisions.

Badin was DV in 2014, but due to enrollment moved up to DIV in 2015 (prior to CB). You must be winking at yourself in the mirror.

I was told the 1 division jump rule was for the first year. Now you go where ever your formula takes you. If you don't have many kids coming in from outside your district you will not go anywhere. If you are jumping 2 divisions then you are getting a bunch of kids from outside your district limits.

Isn't Roger Bacon the D3 school that lost to the perienial weak Deer Park? Apparently that got under their skin. To recruit a class like they had and then be placed in such a high division that you don't win state makes you feel real bad about the situation.

OHSAA filed a complaint with the Supreme Court asking for a time period of stoppage against the Hamilton County ruling and it was granted. If I read the papers correctly the OHSAA is going to take the stance that you joined voluntarily agreeing to our rules. If you don't like them you don't have to join.

Seems like the right stance on the matter. Separately, a referendum item to revise how CBP is calculated can be put to a vote in April if member schools so desire.

I read today a Lucas County court is hearing an argument from a parent wanting his son to be granted exemption from the transfer rule.

The academic issue that you refer to is much more interesting than you would think.

I doubt this lawsuit has nothing to do with academics.

I don't think the paper is correct about soccer and swimming unless the rules changed. A transfer student only has to sit out the first sport of the year that they played the previous year. My daughter was a swimmer and a softball player. Played both sports the year before. Had to sit out swimming for half the year but not softball. This was two years ago, so things may have changed

The paper is correct. If you donít meet an exception you have to sit out in every sport that you played at the old school. This is not a new rule, so your daughter got away with one there.

So you are saying that your daughters team played half the season with an ineligible player.

Guess so. Pretty interesting since the AD thoroughly vetted the situation.
