A lot of individuals and a few institutions are going to burn in this. It looks like Louisville is definitely one of those schools. There's no way Petino survives this.

I haven't seen speculation as to the school, but the report says a player was funneled 150k (1.5x the amount funneled to Bowen) to go to an Adidas school, sign with a certain agent, etc. IMO, there's a good chance that the player is Dennis Smith Jr. (formerly #1 in his class before a knee injury) and the school is N.C. State. I'd imagine Kansas and UCLA will avoid this mess, and there doesn't seem to be any other logical power 5 Adidas team with recent NBA lottery talent.

Edit: from a different article it sounds like the second school has to be Miami.

I watched some of the coverage on ESPN at lunch, and it was interesting that Louisville simply suspended Pitino without pay & suspended the AD with pay. So, while it looks like Pitino is on the way out, it doesn't look like a 100% done deal yet.

It would also seem to indicate that the AD might actually keep his job. Can Louisville really plausibly say Pitino has all of the responsibility, and the AD has relatively little responsibility? I just don't know how you get away with saying that, considering the AD's primary job is to ensure that football and/or men's basketball run smoothly.

I don't see how the AD continues to get the benefit of the doubt.

AD is gone, it was the way the contract was written when Ramsey gave him and Pitino the contracts. They legally have to pay Jurich (specified for 30 days) and he gets 3p days to present evidence. Putin's had a clause for 10 days. They have to say Jurich has a chance of coming back because of the wording in the contract. They had to do it this way or else they would have to pay a big buyout.

Further evidence Trump colluded with Louisville to sway the election.

I'm very happy for college basketball. We need to get this corruption out of the game. I'm ok with people making what they can, but college coaches, football and basketball, shouldn't be making 15 times what college presidents do.

I want the one and done rule gone, if you're silly enough -or good enough to go straight to the NBA from high school, then go... these high school kids and parents heads are so in the clouds and they are just going for a money grab. I'd also like to see some restrictions on this AAU crap that runs recruiting now. There is not reason a 12 year old kid should be flying all over the country during the off season for basketball, playing and getting all their expenses taken care of. Just silly, and overall, we're setting kids up for failure. For every LeBron James and Kevin Durrant, there are 100's of NBA wannabes who don't take their schooling serious because they think they'll be set. Tired of messing with irresponsible people.

Absolutely...you get an athletic scholarship, you're on campus for a minimum of 3 years, like college baseball.

That's not college baseball. That's an MLB rule. You're not asking for college sports reform, you're asking for professional sports reform.

Does this explain Thad Matta's struggles in recruiting his last few years as a Buckeye?

It actually makes sense. I think they changed the rules for going straight to the NBA out of high school around 2004. Matta had some great recruiting classes for the next 5-6 years but things started to go down hill. I'm guessing it took the sneaker companies about that amount of time to get their system in place to steer their future players.

At least I'm hoping that Matta was clean and the other top schools that emerged were just dirty.

Here's an interesting counter opinion on the involvement of the FBI in all of this.

http://nypost.com/2017/09/27/why-is-...ce-ncaa-rules/

So, while they are almost certainly violations of NCAA rules, are they really crimes against the state? It should be interesting to see how that shakes out as someone actually tries to prosecute these cases in a court of law.

You really think they'll go after Kentucky? It would be similar to going after Alabama in football. Ain't gonna happen!

My comment was probably more sarcastic than anything, but it just feels like these investigations never go after the top dogs (NCAA doesn't wanna bite the hand that's making them tons of money). But I guess that could be different this time, considering it's the FBI in charge.

If there is one school the NCAA/Feds would want to go after it is UK. Surprisingly nothing has come up yet in Cal's tenure. I honestly think UK, Duke, UNC all come out of this without any major infractions.

I mean they did just take down the most profitable basketball school in U of L, that's pretty high

Since it involves the Feds I'd imagine that if UK, Duke, UNC or Kansas have any dirty laundry it will be aired out soon enough.
