Man who mowed lawn with tornado behind him says he 'was keeping an eye on it.'

Quote:
A photo of a man in Alberta mowing a lawn with a tornado swirling behind him has been causing a storm on social media.

Cecilia Wessels snapped the picture of her husband, Theunis, on Friday evening as the twister passed near their home in Three Hills.

She said cutting the grass was on her husband's to-do list, and as he started the task, she went for a nap.

Wessels said she was woken by her nine-year-old daughter who was upset that there was something like a tornado in the sky, but her father wouldn't come inside.

Why does he have a fenced in yard when his house is in the middle of nowhere

Keep the dog in the yard?

Or if that is farm ground, keep the farmer out.

Not a fan of the tall wooden fences. If I would need a fence it would be something you can see through just, well, to see something other than a wooden fixture. I could see me doing something like this especially if the land was so wide open, but then again I would probably just sit out and watch it go by and mow afterwards. Not every day you get a front row seat to a tornado

LOL - cue up "Ordinary Average Guys" by Joe Walsh. I can relate to the guy in the photo, I'd be saying, "Okay, honey - it won't hit for a few minutes, and I'm almost done here!"

Coincidentally, I saw a Youtube video the other day, an airline passenger is film through his window above the wing while the jet experiences strong turbulence on approach under threatening skies, and had to to do a go-around because the windshear was too severe, probably 50 feet or so above the ground

As you hear the engines spool up and the plane tips upward, the horizon at the wing's edge becomes visible, you can suddenly see a tornado in the distance maybe 2 miles away. What does the pilot do? He goes around, turning the plane in the direction of the tornado ....... that was an odd sight. I wonder how many tornadoes pilots and passengers actually see in the distance during flights?

First thought was what a beautiful tornado. Definitely would be rated at the top of the Wizard of Oz scale.

Second thought was how interesting it is to see someone actually practicing to win a Darwin award!

Hey, you can't let the yard get away from you, maybe he wouldn't have had time to get to it the rest of the week...

He is my take. The wife is a nag and was pissed at him for not cutting the grass all week, so he saw the tornado and said I have a chance to get away from her and then haunt her the rest of her life.

For those participating in the GF thread, I just want to point out that looks like a basic 11" rear wheel side discharge mulching Yard Machine. He's not just mowing the lawn. He's going to take down that tree, the flip the Y-M upside down and take out that tornado.

The mower looks like an orange front wheel drive Husqvarna. Wise decision and much better than a Poulan.

Looks like he was just cutting his dandelions. Apparently weed control is frowned upon the great plains of the western Canada.
