Finally, any else enjoy the teaser at the end of the last episode? SPOILER ALERT... DO NOT SCROLL DOWN IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED IT YET.

What do you want to bet Chandler pulls the old switch-a-roo (using the Chinese vessel) on the ship that we see the missiles hit?
Not in league with the GI Joe thing.

I like season endings that aren't endings. Other series, this would have been a wrap.

My main interest, naval tactics are interesting. Almost every sci-fi is modeled after Navy and command structure. Seeing Jayne back in action is a plus, it'd be a giggle if they worked in a little homage somehow. When he was playing gunnery and launching rockets, got a bit of that.

They don't need to do things based on how we think it would happen in real life. Basically disagree with everything you've said. Just enjoy the show, action, and support the good guys
Well it's opinion so trust me, it's correct. Nothing for you to disagree with.

For ME (better) it's more enjoyable when made plausible. Just a "tv show" should still be good story-telling along with the compelling plots and characters. For ME, it's at best 2 out of 3. Some shows put it all out front, the viewer doesn't have to engage brain. I wouldn't put lost ship in that category, not by a long shot. Some hint at the reasons for plot movement, I tend to prefer this. Some provide the reasoning all in hindsight, particularly in this day and age when they have the feedback of the internet opinion. In this case, I think they could have spend a small bit of time making this split plausible using hints. That was when the big reveal happened, there would be more reason to re-watch old episodes and put it all together. I'm not one to scrape the internet for "fan theories," I prefer to come up with them on my own or banter on boards like this.

As for "making it better," I think the bigger risk we see with these shows is continually trying to out-do themselves until they get silly. Hopefully Last Ship keeps an "even keel," lol.

I don't know where they're going with it that they'll have a conclusion in one episode but they're moving along smartly. Still don't care for the Snidely Whiplash acting of the bad guys but everything else keeps getting better.

So... Chandler's response to the President's question if the Chinese ship was remotely piloted was "something like that." I like that they had the forethought to address the obvious question (since it did have a crew) but the response seemed intentionally vague.

I personally would laugh if he made the chinese crew man their own ship into san diego like that, but im sure they just rigged it to keep going.

This show is probably the best show on TV behind Suits on USA. Every episode gets better and better. The dynamic with Tex being back is perfect. I was worried we wouldn't see him again earlier this season

I also find the "politics" between the regions of a post plague America to be very believable. We are not nearly as united as we like to think and the loss of 95% of the population would definitely open the door for dissolution and the rise of "bad" men & women to leadership positions.

I believe it can be made believable but they just kind of threw it out there without any build-up. They could have been doing that this season, build the internal politics and more importantly, building the characters of the regional leaders to be, added a bit more viewpoint from the Chinese side of the equation (justifying the opening sequence) then set up the murder of the Pres as the cliff-hanger to next. Instead, we get next plot without any of the plot-points, without any of the politicing.

Viewers haven't had opportunities to take sides as I believe a good sustaining drama would do.

A show like this, not sure if it can build audience. Maybe if they get the earlier seasons on Netflix or something and add some characterization to next season...

This show doesn't really need to add anything. Also not sure it drastically needs to build the audience up. Obviously people will stumble upon it online like i did or on netflix eventually, but they don't need to drastically increase viewers in order to continue. I think it wouldve been a waste of time to show the regional leaders any more than they did. It would've been terribly boring to have even a single episode dedicated to them having backroom meetings to discuss their plans anymore than they showed already. We didn't need to see them to hate them. The little we saw them it was obvious they were not supporting President Michner like they should have. There are no sides for viewers to take. You're on the side of the crew of the Nathan James from the start. I don't think the show could have done anything that would've made this season better than it was(except maybe have Tex there all season)

Yea this show is phenomenal. No need to change anything to try to "build audience" or improve. The need to just keep doing what they're doing and it'll remain a top 2-3 show on TV without a doubt. Try to change too much which is what it seems eastisbest would suggest an i guarantee the show would suck and die.

I agree. They are striking the right chord between entertainment and plausibility given the assumption of what would happen in the aftermath of a devastating plague.

This is where I think the "Last Ship" is worlds better than the "walking dead" series. In the "Walking Dead", civilization collapses and we are reduced to wondering bands of cannibals, psychopaths & folks in deep denial (Alexandria). Yet a look at history will show that no matter the trauma, humanity is genetically driven to organize itself into working communities. Think of how social cohesion was maintained during the "Black Death", following the fall of the Roman Empire or in the wake of the Mongols brutal subjugation of Asia. Sure you got "strongmen", much like the Chinese leader and the regional leaders in The Last Ship but you didn't see a lot of the "Governor" or baseball bat waving clowns like "Negan" amount to much.

So much can be said about this finale. I'm going to wait a day and watch again to let it sink in before I give my final thoughts.

Did I miss something, or did Chandler make it from San Diego to St. Louis in about five minutes?

The tyranny of a 50 minute per episode time limit. They tried to imply that the standoff on the tarmac had been going on for a while by the looks of exhaustion on their faces BUT it would have been nice had a line of dialogue been included indicating that they were waiting for Chandler to get their by fast jet (about 4 hours).

Besides that the season finale was great and set up next season to go in a number of different but interesting directions. The final action by Chandler was justified yet at the same time would be deeply disquieting to a man that truly lived an honorable life. So Chandlers ultimate decision at the end of the episode was also very realistic after doing what he did. I thought the episode did a nice job of planting the seeds for trouble next season.

I thought it was pretty clear they had been there for a while.
I hated that Tex died, but I understand that he had the deepest connection to Chandler and thus his death would hit Chandler the hardest. It will be interesting to see where Chandler goes from here as he clearly is affected by the deaths of those around him or under his command. This was a great season, and they are already committed to 2 more seasons. Excited to see where they go from here.

How are people liking Season 4 so far? I saw the first two episodes and it's as good as ever. I really care about the characters and the new threat to the worlds food supply is compelling. And what's not to like about a rocket duel with the great rock of Gibraltar!

As an aside it looks like the producers are re-imagining the Odyssey story line with this season. Break out your classics books if you want to keep up!

The guy who wrote that was such a homer. Should be a good familiar framework to get Chandler back to the ship. Not sure how a famine feeds into that, been years since I read.

First two episodes had great scenery. I got introduced to the passage aboard a destroyer. Don't remember the rockets.

I suspect it won't be anything close to a literal interpretation but it could be fun if they do it right.

I'm going to stick with it it but I'm not liking this season so far. I thought the first couple seasons were at least plausible but things are getting a little carried away this season.

I do like Robocop as a guest star this year, though.

Did you know that Peter Weller (Robocop) is also an expert on ancient Roman art. He was a host on the History channel's outstanding "Engineering and Empire" series. When it comes to a deep knowledge of ancient Mediterranean civilizations Weller is the real deal. He must be loving the part he's playing here.

hope to catch up today. Apparently the actor playing Chandler had some "issues," emotional led to delay. Seems to show in the acting, though he wasn't IMO a great actor anyhow.

I'd like to see how robo came to power as he did. Weller does give him a nice 007 baddie feel, which I think fits the show.

I completely forgot about that show. Thanks for the reminder, now I need to try to find it online. He was the perfect host for that, IMHO. He also plays a great villian nowadays. I remember the season of 24 he was in. That was some of the best TV I have seen in a long time.

Finally caught up to the last episode. Pretty much non-stop action. People got to act. The ship got to act. Not sure about that "live-ballast" thing this isn't a Hobbie Cat but what the hell.

Greek boy is annoying, and stupid. Last remaining seeds in the world, let's walk around deck drunk, leave them on a table near the edge. Dumbazz. By fun watching him die.

Something that might be of interest to you Lotr10, I'm reading a book series "The Lost Fleet," which combines naval with space opera. It's been a fun series, heavy on battle tactics and ship relations without getting porno for an audience. The premise, a fleet recovers a 100 year old escape pod, containing a cryogenically preserved, not legendary commander, just in time to meet disaster and find themselves in need of a new Captain/Admiral/whatever. And guess who has seniority, lol. It's been a fun read, mostly about the fleet's attempts to get home through enemy territory where they were when they lost their original Commander.

Added interest for me, I'm on the fourth book and in the dedications is a note to the "Spruance," namesake for that class destroyer. Of interestest to me, at the time he was on the Spruance, I was civilian on another Spruance class, The Stump. I just don't recall if Spruance was in the same battle group, The Eisenhower, heading to the Med and parts unknown, lol.

I'm currently working my way through Jack Campbell's The Lost Fleet Series and just bought the follow-up trilogy The Lost Fleet: beyond the Frontier. I love the series to! For serious science fiction fans this is the age of Space Opera as there are some amazing writers out there: Kevin Anderson, Ian Banks, Neal Asher and the incomparable Peter Hamilton to name just a few. Their stories are filled with amazing concepts and galaxy spanning themes. I just wish the damn comic book directors and Star wars prequel guys would take the time to read some of this stuff and make movies using these books as the source material. It would blow up the box office in the same way Star Wars did 40 years ago.

Oddly, the Saga of Seven Suns wiki doesn't even mention the latest but there was a release this year: The Dark Between the Stars. Maybe it's not consider part of the same "saga?" It is the same universe. Hope to catch up on Last Ship tonight or tomorrow.

East, The Dark Between the Stars is the 1st book of a new trilogy that takes place after the conclusion of the Saga of Seven Suns. It has most of the best characters from the Saga and a few new ones. Dark was followed by Blood of the Cosmos & Eternity's Mind. if you liked the Seven Suns saga you will love this new trilogy. One thing you can say about Anderson is that he doesn't think small.

WHAT! I got two more books to read? It's like the never ending story. Not sure I want to get invested in another series that might out live me. Already reading that damn Destroyermen story that never goes anywhere, for about 10 or 11 books now.

Well, I guess I might as well see if library has them. Need something to read in the library besides Math books.
