You can get under Mason's skin very easily. But if he decides to go off he's tough. Not sure they can handle Solon pressure. Rice only good ball handler

Do you just come on yappi to create problems? Go on the thread titled Nordonia is terrible at all sports and you can comment on there, and you clearly don't know anything Mentor has been playing really good lately and Solon has a target on their back with being 15-0 and playing in tough road environments .

Solon is one of the top two teams we played this year

Love how they play
Any they are relentless.

They can be beaten like any team but I think them and/or Eds are heading to Columbus

Good win getting Mentor tonight

Solid win my Solon. Mentor has been on fire lately and if I'm not mistaken this win breaks like a 5 or 6 game winning streak. Has anybody had a tougher week then Mentor. Shaker, Solon and Joe's in 5 days. Don't let Brian1227 bother you. Usually what ever he says the exact opposite happens.

This week is gonna be huge for the Solon Comets.

Brunswick held serve by beating Medina tonight. Those guys are for real this season and Monday night's game could be one of the games of the year in my opinion.

I think that Solon has a fair chance at beating Stow on the road the following night. I know that Twinsburg is improved from last season, but I didn't think the Tigers would hold Stow to 40 points. If Stow has another off night, Solon should win, but I think that game should also be close.

Ah, Yappi posters. Some are intelligent and insightful; others have merde for brains.

Solon rallied from its first halftime deficit of the season, as the Comets rode a 29-point third period en route to a 71-65 road victory over arch-rival Mentor. Solon improved to 15-0 overall; 9-0 in Greater Cleveland Conference play. The Comets are likely to remain #2 in the AP Ohio D1 basketball poll. I'm not sure of the Cardinals' record. I believe Mentor is 10-5 overall and 5-5 in the GCC. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Mentor scored the first four points of the game to grab a lead that lasted into the third period. The Cards started off hot from the field and stayed that way. Conversely, Solon was stone cold in the first half. Mentor had something to do with it. The Cards played tight man-to-man defense, close enough to call it body-to-body. The defense took Solon out of its game a bit but the Comets also missed open shots. Solon fell behind 28-19 late in the half and looked to be in trouble, until Sincere Carry knocked down a pair of triples and sent the Comets to the locker room down by just three, at 30-27. Solon, a team that lives by outside shooting, had not hit a three until that point.

Sincere had scored 15 of Solon's 27 first-half points. But in the second half, all the other Comets got hot. Trent Williams went on a tear. Michael Bekelja hit a couple of outside bombs and David Marbury netted a pair of threes, as the Comets scored 29 points in the third quarter and led, 56-44 heading into to fourth.

Once the Comets gained the lead, they never gave it back. Solon's lead wavered between five and 11 points in the fourth. The Comets were up by 11 with just under two minutes left when they started to play keep away. Mentor sored a few meaningless baskets in the closing seconds.

Mentor played Solon tough, just as Euclid did Tuesday night. The Cards' physical defense seemed to bother Solon though conversely, the contact led to a lot of fouls. Solon got into the double bonus in both halves.

Carry led Solon with 26 points. Trent Williams tallied 20. Marbury had 11. Marbury, Ryan Bergen and Nick Close did yeoman work on the boards. Shane Zalba had a great game for Mentor with 25 points. Tadas Tatarunas had 15.

Mentor is a darned good team. A well-coached team, too. Solon probably hasn't seen the last of the Cards. Round 3 will probably take place at the Euclid district. The teams met in the district the last two years. This season seems headed the same way.

Solon's got 13-2 Brunswick Monday night, followed by 13-2 Stow on Tuesday. Everyone wants a piece of the Comets. Two outstanding teams get their chance. I think Solon will be ready for them.

Did Shaker and Euclid play last night? I'm looking for a score, but haven't found anything.

I found the score on Cleveland.com. Shaker beat Euclid by three. Good win for the Raiders. There are five good teams in the GCC this year and a sixth, Elyria, who is decent.

Shaker won in OT. Very enjoyable game. Euclid is getting better. They just have not figured out how to win and close out a game against good teams. They are close. Not a team anybody at the Solon District wants to see right now.

Solon visits Brunswick tonight in one of the biggest games of the season. This one is for first place in the GCC, folks. The Comets are 9-0 in GCC play. The Blue Devils are 13-2; 8-1 in the GCC. Brunswick has won 12 straight; its last defeat December 8 to Shaker Heights.

The Blue Devils play a patient brand of halfcourt basketball. They're well-coached. Brunswick will try to slow Solon down and keep the score in the 60's or even better, the 50's. In contrast, the Comets love to score in the 90's or better.

Brunswick usually plays Solon tough. The Comets split with Brunswick last year, ending a long drought vs. B-wick.

Be a great game, Brunswick could win this game. Solon players found me on Twitter, hope they listen to me , respect the game, act with class, and don't go at with the student section.

Like I said - listen to Brian and the opposite usually happens. Solid win by Solon. Still the class of the conference.

Stow is in trouble Tuesday evening! Lots of talent, but it takes more than talent to be a great basketball team. Solon has talent AND plays smart basketball.

It is going to be tough for the comets due to back to back tough road environments and two tough teams, but a win would really make a statement and a case for the best team in D1.

Last night's win has got to be one of the high points of the season for Solon. The Comets beat a tough opponent on the road and just about clinched the GCC title. Solon now has a two-game lead over Brunswick with four league games to play. B-wick must face the Comets at Solon in two weeks.

Brunswick tested Solon last night. The Blue Devils slowed the pace in the first half and got the Comets out of their game. They also got Sincere Carry and Trent Williams, Solon's two leading scorers, in foul trouble. But Brunswick couldn't take advantage of their absence.

The first half ended in a 27-27 tie. Brunswick paced the game to their liking. Their players looked confident. B-wick had a raucous crowd cheering them on. Solon looked out of sorts. Except for Sincere, no Comet seemed to want to shoot the ball. Solon had spent much of the first half trailing by small margins.

Midway through the third period, both Carry and Williams committed their third fouls and went to the bench. The fouls came just moments apart and I believe Brunswick led by a point or two when it happened. Things looked bleak for Solon. But instead of caving in, the Comets switched to a patient offense, got big baskets from David Marbury, Nick Close and Brandon Brown, and ended the third period with a 50-47 lead. To me, that was the turning point of the game.

Sincere and Trent returned to start the fourth and Solon took over the game, blitzing Brunswick with speed and three-point shooting. The Devils looked tired in the fourth and they looked demoralized. Solon scored 48 points in the second half against a team that barely gives up 50 per game.

Williams led Solon with 27 points; most came from long distance and most came in the second half. Carry scored 26 and his ballhandling and defense were super, as usual. Marbury and Close scored eight and seven, respectively and also played great defense. They out-rebounded a much taller Brunswick team.

Kyle Goessler led Brunswick with 22 points. He also torched the Comets last year. Nick Felician tallied 19 points and Alex Wyatt added 11. Brunswick's top three kids are all outstanding players. So is center Zack Zagrafos, a 6-6 space-eater. But B-wick doesn't appear to be very deep and they don't substitute much. I believe Solon wore the Devils down in the second half.

Solon's got another big one tonight at Stow. I won't be there because of work, but I'll try to get some info from my friends.

Go Solon!! !

What I don't think is being said enough is how good Solon is on the defensive side of the ball and these tough games are just building on their confidence which is already sky high

Had a feeling. Stow is reminding me of the Cavs to an extent; a team where the whole does not match the parts....so to speak.

Solon thoroughly dominated Stow tonight. I was extremely impressed all around.

Stow looks as though they should be better but they really aren't very good and they just lack any sort of physical or mental toughness.

I think Dave Close is a phenomenal high school basketball coach but this Stow team isn't really that good when push comes to shove.
