Athens standout QB, Joe Burrow, transferring from OSU

It comes as no real surprise, but former Athens' All-Ohio QB has announced he will be transferring from OSU. As a graduate transfer, he can go wherever without having to sit out a year. To me, he was by far the best high school QB I had personally seen play. I wish him well; unless he goes to the Gators where he is rumored to be considering. Then I hope he's the best player on a bad team!

ď1. Burrow was, like many Ohio State QBs, a heavily recruited blue-chip prospect: A quick 411 on Burrow: He was a four-star recruit in the class of 2015 brought in by current Texas coach Tom Herman. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound signal-caller was ranked as the No. 8 overall dual-threat quarterback and the No. 11 recruit in the state of Ohio for that year. After redshirting his freshman season, he was the team's primary backup in 2016 before falling down the depth chart this past season. ď

I hope he goes to Texas (and doesnít beat Ohio State in the playoffs).

He looked better than Haskins. I donít blame him for the waiting game when thereís other opportunities out there.

I thought about that, too. But my guess is he has his sights set a little higher than the MAC.

Well he shouldn't. I think he's talented but not like he's ever started or played meaningful football in years. I'd actually recommend the MAC. Worked for Roethlisberger among others.

There's a few guys in the NFL who went to NAIA schools. He should probably go to an NAIA school, it worked out for those guys.

A college football career comes but once in a lifetime for those relatively few who are fortunate enough to have the talent to play at that level. To my way of thinking any player should choose the highest level / team where he is absolutely CERTAIN he is going to get considerable playing time (i.e. an actual college football CAREER out of it.)

I would apply that thinking to his choice now, were I him. I suppose a big graduate year on the field ala' Russell Wilson could put him back in the minds of NFL scouts and draft gurus.

==============================================

It may be that in the future (re CTE), players that get the full four year ride, get a degree and play little to not at all are the luckiest ones. Joe has a chance to add a free graduate degree to that and that's no small thing either. Free college these days is a major head start on a good "Average persons" future considering the debt most seem willing to incur to go to college.

Nebraska was actually Burrows first visit. Nebraska people were mad Bo Pelini didnít recruit Burrow. But thatís why Bo is coaching JV football now

That would be pretty cool. Ohio University plays Cincinnati next year. Son vs Father since his dad is the defensive coordinator

ESPN is saying that LSU and UC have recieved permission to start discussions with him. Also, they said Texas has two highly rated QB's, so he'd be going in to a 3 way battle there so I don't think that the best fit for him, considering they all would be ahead of him in the playbook.

It seemed to me that he outplayed Haskins this spring. Oh well, I wish him the best. He will be a great addition for someone.

LSU or Florida I think are his best options. Urban and Mullen are good friends and Iím sure Urban is doing some PR for Joe. LSU is really desperate for a QB, but this might be the year LSU ruins its bowl streak.

Without the injury, he may well have been the QB coming in for JT in the TTUN game.

If he is a grad transfer, why would any team have to "receive permission" to talk to him? How does that work?

Because until he transfers he is still a student athlete at OSU.

From my understanding, since he still has athletic eligibility, he's still considered an OSU student-athlete. I could be very wrong, there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding this whole situation.
