Ben was a player...

Benjamin Franklin...
Quote:
“In all your Amours you should prefer old Women to young ones. You call this a Paradox, and demand my Reasons. They are these:

1. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stor’d with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreable.

2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, they study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Diminution of Beauty by an Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do a 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such a thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.

3. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produc’d may be attended with much Inconvenience.

4. Because thro’ more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting an Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin’d to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.

5. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.

6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.

7. Because the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an old Woman happy.

8thly and Lastly They are so grateful!!”

― Benjamin Franklin
In other words...

They don't yell, tell, swell, and they're grateful as hell!

Inside clocks are changed, I'll probably get around to the one in my truck sometime in January or so.

Love the local TV news, with their helpful hints on "how you can manage the time change - experts say the best way is to NOT drink any coffee for 48 to 72 hours".

Quacks. I always sleep better right away, regardless of caffeine.

I do not miss those days. When I was in the field I absolutely HATED the time change and winter for this reason. Then to top it off we have what seems like weeks here in NWOhio the sun will not appear. Just makes things miserable.

Europe voted to make daylight savings all year round.

I would be okay with that.

I usually change our clocks Friday night or first thing saturday especially when we spring forward.

Studies show an increase in heart attacks and strokes in the mon-wed after spring forward and a slight decrease the few days after fall back.

That will be my next truck but for now I'm sticking with my 2003 Dodge Ram with no power locks or windows and a broken CD player. Less stuff that can go wrong.

I thought the initial effort had to do with needed light in the morning? Just make it so it gets light at 5am all year round. Not that hard.

If it's going to be all about me, I'd say , so I'd make it a 7:30-8:00 sunrise ever day. I always get my best sleep during the latter half of night-time, so I'd like it to stay dark as late as possible.

I seem to remember being taught in school that DST was enacted to benefit farmers, and/or promote energy savings. I did look this up a few years ago and was surprised to learn that wasn't the case:

"Contrary to popular belief, American farmers did not lobby for daylight saving to have more time to work in the fields; in fact, the agriculture industry was deeply opposed to the time switch ...... The sun, not the clock, dictated farmers’ schedules, so daylight saving was very disruptive.

Economists calculated that Indiana’s move to statewide daylight saving time in 2006 led to a 1-percent rise in residential electricity use through additional demand for air conditioning...... "

Absolutely, or like here in western ohio, still darned near light at 10pm for a time in the summer.

The premise was okay I think, you want more sunlight for the evening after school and work to get things done.

I absolutely hate this time of year with it dark so damned early.

Makes me feel like I am late though in the mornings with the daylight going to work.

That works too. I just hate leaving work and it's already dark.

Shamefully lazy, lol.

Cliff Notes version: DST's original intent really was to save energy, back around 1900 when lighting was the biggest use of energy. Nowadays the only real reason is to decide if you want more daylight hours to go golfing after you get off work at 5 PM.

Okay, I've given you all enough time to research the reason behind Daylight Savings Time.
No one seems to have found the true reason. It all got started when an old Indian chief cut off one end of his blanket and sewed it on the other end to make it longer. Class dismissed.
