What Movies Did You Watch in October 2018?

As a horror movie junkie, I come across a lot of off beat Horror movies as well as the run in the mill straight to video. I will share my thoughts of the ones that I see this month. So, if you seen a movie new or old and want to share your thoughts go ahead, and if its horror, even better!!!!

I will edit in my horror views here with my rating scale on how I liked it.....

8 = Donnie Darko
7 = Excellent !!!!!
6 = Great
5 = pretty Good
4 = OK/Good
3 = not good
2 = Bad
1 = Unwatchable

#3828 Insidious 4: The Last Key (Canada-2018) ... 5.0/8

Revolutionary Road (2008) - Fine film with outstanding performances by Leo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet and their supporting cast. The film was about conformity in 1950's corporate American as many films have done before going back to The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (1956). Good film well executed. I do get a little tired of watching people who appear to have everything they might want find ways to be unhappy.

I actually went to see Venom and it was pretty decent. Not a big fan that it seems like half of all movies that are released now a days are either Marvel or DC, but this one wasn't long and all drawn out like several of the others. Would still rather sit at home and watch Jennifer Love Hewitt in her low-cut, tight dresses in Ghost Whisperer, but not too bad overall.

Insidious 4: The Last Key (Canada-2018)

Horror: Elise goes back to her childhood home to face a demon that plagued her as a child. This one was not the best in the series but it was decent. I did not like the reveal at all as it did not make sense to me but I won't let it ruin it for me.... 5.0/8

Been busy and have not gotten to see many movies lately. I did watch a silly Netflix movie with one of my daughters yesterday Little Evil (2017). It was silly but entertaining with several good gags. The "Pat" type ambiguous gender sidekick got tedious but I still liked the character had they not used that gimmick.

Halloween (2018)

4/8- nothing great but it was good to see them return to the original storyline.

A Star Is Born - 5/8; decent flick but nothing amazing IMO. Cooper was great.

Searching - 6/8; interesting and different, great twists and turns. Kept me interested throughout.

I Think We're Alone Now - 4/8; started off intriguing but didn't really go anywhere, visually it was great.

The Green Mile 8/8 I think every actor in this movie at one time plucks an emotion. Can't think of a stinker in the bunch. One of the best acted movies I've seen and they all have meaty roles. Still have problems with suspending belief that NOONE could tell who killed the kids, particularly after he was sent up for similar gruesome work. I always want to rewrite that part in a way that John Coffey gets a happy ending.

Still a slow month for movie watching but I caught At War With the Army (1950), a Martin and Lewis comedy. Lewis' physical comedy and impersonations were a hoot but it was not as good, overall, as I expected.

Watched Rob Zombies Halloween. Was ok I guess, funny how the updated version infused much more nudity and swearing.

Before I Wake - 6/8

Good storyline, which is often what I need out of a thiller/horror movie because I'm immune to the jump scares. Netflix suggested this to me and it delivered.

Hush - 5/8

Deaf, mute writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears in her window. Found myself really pulling for this girl. Good use of sound during some of the terror scenes.

The Strangers (2008) - 1/8

Similar premise to Hush (good guys trapped in their home. bad guys terrorize them before actually attempting to murder them), but a lousy performance. Unless you're hell-bent on seeing Liv Tyler, don't watch this one.

Went in with zero expectations. I understand why all the purists did not like it but it was not bad.

Just watched Solo too, I would say 5/8 is dead on. I'm not a Star Wars superfan, but I've seen all the movies and thought this one was pretty good.

Trick or Treat 3/8-not really that scary, some graphic stuff and acting was less than spectacular.

Shutter Island (2010) - Scorese certainly knows how to craft a film. In feel and mood, as well as with the discussion of Nazi experiments, this reminded me of Zombie movies from the 30's and 40's like I walked with Zombies (1943), White Zombie (1932) and Revenge of the Zombies (1943) even though there is not a single zombie to be found. It is also very reminiscent of Hitchcock films.

I watched this last night (Halloween) with my wife. While she is very intelligent a can solve the most complicated problems at work and sees with clarity political and social issues, she likes her entertainment spoon fed, so, needless to say she was not pleased with the ending, but I thought it was a great film.

I think the key with Solo is to judge it on its own. As a Star Wars movie, it's got some minor issues, but if you ignore that it's a Star Wars movie, it's a very solid sci-fi flick.
