Needless to say, we aren't going to get spotted 3 runs out of the gate because the opposing pitcher can't throw strikes. Felt bad for the Pirate starter last night, just could not get going at all. But we'll take it. And as bad as Finnigan looked, the bullpen picked him up and covered for him. That's what good teams do.
The bullpen has been lights out. You have multiple guys who take the ball and can go multiple innings holding things down. Makes the importance of the starters less, and really gives your team an invincible feeling.
Big start tonight for Rookie Davis. He was not good in his first outing, so we need a good 6 from him tonight, not just for his sake, but to tax the bullpen two days in a row can cause issues. Now, even though we did use 7 innings of bullpen last night, Iglesias, Wood, Cingrani, are all rested and ready tonight.
Lost in the shuffle last night was a fantastic play by Peraza deep in the hole at short, saving at least a run. Cozart was a late scratch, and it's nice to be able to flip Peraza over there, and put Gennett into his natural 2nd base spot.

He asked you a direct question for you to back up what you were saying. Obviously, you can't do it.

Please, though, I will be the first one to say that we need YOU on here. The laughter that you provide with your posts is invaluable.

3-0 series start despite the rotation being pretty terrible. Can't last that way, but it feels good.

Really hoping we don't see Votto replicate last year's first half. For being such an unbelievable pure hitter it's fascinating to watch those extended periods where he just looks awful at the plate

Needless to say the bullpen is carrying the staff right now, Davis was probably only going 5 last night anyway, he was at 88 pitches through only 4 innings. True JHubbs, can't last, but at least we have a deep pen now and can survive. REally need 6-7 from Garrett tonight.

I'm not worried about Joey, he's been a slow starter. I'm just happy we can thrive without him needing to go 3-3 for us to win. I do think Duvall / Peraza does see better pitches hitting around him.
The guy I like especially do well is Billy Hamilton. Many on here continue to bang the guy at every turn, he can be a superstar if he can hit like he's started out. He's really not trying to steal lot of bases either. I wonder if the club has decided it's not worth it for him to beat himself up stealing bases and then lose him for parts of seasons?

If the club decides that Hamilton should not steal bases, then we need new decision makers. Pure nonsense. Who even thinks that way?

"Don't do what you are best at, don't do what makes you valuable, because you might get hurt!" Only morons and pu$$ies think that way.

Maybe we should tell all of the pitchers not to throw baseballs. Good lord.

I wonder if the team has also instructed Hamilton to no longer dive for balls in the outfield and stop short of the wall on all deep flies due to concerns over his health.

Just sayin' wolves. Monday night, Hamilton gets on right away, steals 2nd easily against a Pirate pitcher with a big leg kick. 2nd inning, Hamilton gets on, I think Peraza swung at the 3rd pitch. Hamilton didn't even try to steal 2nd on the first two pitches? I believe one time last night Billy had a chance to steal a base and ends up being forced out at 2nd on a ground ball to end an inning. I'm just saying in the past, Billy would have been gone immediately. I don't agree with this philosophy, but you just kind of wonder...

So not the leader of all time, Ricky Henderson....

#2 on the list is Lou Brock. During a 10 yr span Lou Brock led the league in stolen bases and averaged over 155 games played.

#3 on the list is a different Billy Hamilton, who played in >90% of total games during the 5 seasons he stole over 100 bases. So not him either.

#5 Tim Raines played 23 f'n seasons. During his prime base stealing years (70+ for 6 years) he played in over 150 games 5 of those years.
