Akron residents fed up with unplowed streets three days after snowstorm

Quote:
Many Akron residents are fed up with unplowed streets, three days after the weekend storm dumped more than a foot of snow in the city.

News 5 crews came across several cars, trucks and SUVs stuck in snow-covered residential streets Tuesday evening, including a mail truck that had to be abandoned in an intersection on Curtis Road and a Spectrum cable van that couldnít move.

Agree with the people that think Akron has done a terrible job with their streets. Drove on them a few times Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Shocked that they weren't able to clear even the major roads in Akron. Some of their neighboring communities with much smaller budgets like Springfield and Mogadore did a much better job.

I had to throw my car into reverse two days ago so I could get a running start to turn off a side street because the intersection is on a bit of a hill. Drove past yesterday and although it hadn't snowed all day I saw a car doing the same thing.

Honestly though I'd rather them leave the snow because it helps cover up the potholes that go weeks without getting fixed. Got a flat on Market around this time last year from that.

The fact of the matter is these cities, medium to large municipalities, have been mismanaged and are in many cases down to bare bones essentials (not purchasing needed equipment, not hiring replacements for retirees, etc...).

Just wait until the next economic downturn as most have not recovered from the last one.

There's something to be said for living in a less-than-cosmopolitan township. I grew up with Columbus address, but we didn't live in a city or town, just a township. Our trustees took care of all the snow removal, including our housing areas. Having your street plowed regularly was something I took for granted back then.

When I bought my first house and moved into the Columbus city limits, my street never saw a plow in the three years I lived there.

Got married and moved again - back to my old neighborhod, one street over from where I grew up. My wife was a city girl, but she found that she likes living where we do - especially in the winter time.

Yeah, Akron seems like a terrible place. Not surprised.

Cincinnati has no room to talk when it comes to snow removal.

They have been doing a good job in the past few years and did a good job during the first storm this winter. Our street did not get plowed after the second storm but the main streets did. I chalk that up to it being a three day holiday weekend for city workers.

Yeah, but Price Hill is barely a notch above Akron. The rest of the city was plowed.

Yeah, my dad ran the street department in Athens. They always had a hard time getting a crew. Most places donít do flat residential streets. If you canít drive on flat ground, you shouldnít be driving.

They had an old dago in charge for years, managing the "I can do less than you do!!" game that's so common among municipal employees of large cities. Now the inmates are running the asylum. What else can be expected in Akron ?

Bring back The Don!!

The Don administration created the problem.

By and large, Akron's declined significantly the past 20 years. Many places are just a dump. The Don was there for some of it.

Will the Don promise not to urinate in public if elected this time?
