D III Region 10 Championship: Toledo Central Catholic (10-2) vs Bay (12-0)

Seems like TCC should be the favorite. But are they?

More Harbins, higher division schedule including wins over 3 still in it play-off teams. Bay has beat the snot out of Parma but no state caliber teams on that schedule. That says Central Catholic is the favorite by a long ways. Bay has all the bulletin board they need playiing a private school with Central's recent history. Being called "under dog" isn't going to add anything to that.

Never enough credit goes to a team/program for going undefeated, 12-0 regardless of the competition will be respected from the team on Cherry St.

Central won handily last year. Bay was stymied by Central's run defense. If Bay is the same as last year, that would play into Central's strength because of Central's huge D-Line.

Bay wins the helmut challenge but I think their program still a year or two from competing with the top. Hoping they're not there yet, anyhow.

I cant see Bay winning this one. Central's strength is the front 7 of their defense. They will be ready for the running attack. As for Bay's attack, I just read the preview in The Blade. Bay's QB #s are worse than Central's. Last year Bay gained very few yards on Central. More of the same this year. The only way I see Bay winning is to get out of their comfort zone and run some play action plays and throw. They dont do that much though.

I've seen Bay a lot this year. I also looked at some film of TCC. I must say that TCC has some good players up front. They have a really nice tackle who was a beast. The film I saw was of him just knocking people down. He is a big guy 6'5" 265-285. The rest of TCC's oline was good, but not overly impressive. On defense there was one defensive end who I thought was very good. I think it was the left end. He just destroyed people. There was also a linebacker who was extremely good. The rest of the team was better than average, but I think Bay will match up with the rest. The backs for TCC were very much like the back for Padua. Good backs but not like the kid from Mansfield who is definitely one of the best players in the state and is going to Minnesota. Bay is going to have to something to neutralize the few studs that TCC has. If they can do that they win. Bay is a much different team from last year. The line has really gelled. They have some very big, tough guys up front. Bay also has some really tough guys on the defensive side of the ball. Their corners have been tested deep on numerous occasions and they are always there. The ends are both big, tough guys. The one guy is a foreign exchange student from some eastern block country. He is really tough. They also have anther really good end in 87. That kid is just nuts. Sometimes a bit too nuts because he has gotten some personal fouls. Mansfield was big and pretty tough, but Bay dominated them. I didn't see the Padua game, so I can't comment. I know Bay's schedule was weak, but they killed everyone. They also played two very good teams in the playoffs, so they are not tested. If they had to play TCC the first week like last year, they may have been shell shocked, but now they have faced good teams and are more prepared. I don't know if that schedule philosophy means anything anyway. I have seen many teams with weaker schedules beat teams that played tough schedules.

Very good team. Classy move on the part of the TCC coaches to take out the whole starting offense after half time.
