Temperature Requirment?

Im seeing a high of 33 degrees this Saturday. Is there a minimum temperature requirement for the invitationals scheduled for this weekend?

Rule #1 don't schedule Saturday meets
Rule #2 don't count on any meet in March or early April for weather to be good
Rule #3 don't run serious sprinters in anything under 50 degrees.
Rule #4 Throw all rules out and have fun with the kids.

I had to break the layer of ice off the top of the PV plant box last Saturday before we bailed it.

That was cold.

Can we vote on a resolution to continue indoor track until May?

pretty tough going at this point. A lot of missed meets and modified workouts that are less effective.

JH track season is going to be about a month long at this rate. HS performances at the end of the year might be taking a hit also

We reluctantly made the decision not to go to the meet we had scheduled. Just gonna be too cold and windy for too long. Wednesday was cold and windy, but at least it was only about 3 hours long.

We did the same for the same reasons. It's also the first time we've declined to participate when a meet hasn't been cancelled. I have mixed feelings about it even if it's the best long term decision.

Coventry went to Lakeview Relays, but we withdrew and left very early on this evening. Trying to win this meet in this kind of conditions simply wasn't worth the injury risk. Not this time. Not after our injury bug last year.

Went to Coaches Classic tonight in Cincinnati. Started off in the high 40's, deteriorated into rain and then snow by the time the 3200 was run. No relays at this meet tonight, fortunately. Ended about 8:40, my car said it was 31 degrees at that time.

Bowling Green ended their meet after the 1600 was run. Wind chill had to be arount 20 at the time.

No relays? Why not? You can't call a meet a "classic" without relays! Was that a last minute decision due to the weather?

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and some meets never seem to get good weather. Got our meet in last night before all heck broke loose, but it wasn't nice weather. It was run-able but not big PR weather. Started out around 50 and cloudy, but the wind was sharp. Showers started falling near the middle of the meet and became heavier by the end. They thankfully combined the 3200 which helped us get out of there right before the rain started turning to snow. I'm also thankful they had hot chocolate for sale. The drive home from school was done with snow falling sideways.

This particular meet has been around 3 years:
'16 - Chilly but dry. A wet heavy snow started falling and accumulating after we got back to the school, and it all but canceled everything the following day.

'17 - Snow squalls hit in the morning, and the meet was canceled by noon.

'18 - Weather very similar to '16, but the precipitation began during the meet instead of a couple hours after the meet. This year's also had twice as many teams as the '16 edition.

As meet director I made the call on Friday before our Medina Relays (run on Saturday) that we were not going to cancel our meet. One of our other coaches and I arrived at 7:00 a.m. this morning and shoveled off some snow and ice. As the sun came up higher the remaining snow and ice melted by 9:00 a.m. On purpose we had scheduled the meet to start at 10:00 a.m. (instead of 9:00 a.m. as in past years). Throughout the day I looked at our American flag and noted that is was basically hanging instead of being whipped around. Even though it was only around 37 degrees for a high, with the sunny sky and little to no wind, the meet went well. We had many state caliber athletes register great performances throughout the day in the running events. The coaches and athletes had nice comments about the meet and seemed happy with the efforts and official marks their athletes achieved for an early season meet that could have been cancelled if we had been cautious based on the weather forecasts in the days leading up to our Saturday meet.

Toledo St. John's cancelled their meet for Saturday. All meets for tonight should be good but have other meets been cancelled for Saturday?

Do not know why no relays. It was set up that way from the get-go.

Schools were permitted to enter four athletes per event, so 9-10 heats of 100/200/400 for both boys and girls. Relays would probably add another 6 heats (3G, 3B) for each of the 4x1,4x2, and 4x4. Boys discus took so long that girls discus was not able to compete.

All that being said the clerking and timing did a great job in getting all of the running events in with so many heats.

We managed to get in the Joe Lenge Dublin Classic today without too much weather trouble. The rain impeded the 400s, the 200s, some of the 300 hurdles and the girls pole vault. But otherwise conditions were ok. It is remarkable how different a meet is when it isnt freezing. Congrats to the Brunswick girls and Pick Central girls for their wins.

The bulk of our team was scheduled to be at Liberty Center (who waited until we were on the bus on our way to the meet to cancel). Fortunately we had a few girls entered in the Dublin Classic. Liberty Center was 38 degrees and 20 mph sustained winds. It was 70 and no wind to speak of at Dublin.

Also, a big kudos to the Dublin Classic for putting on one of the best run meets I've ever attended. The competition was top notch and there wasn't a lot of down time in between races.

Thanks for the compliment. Our new meet director worked really hard to keep things running quickly. We got very fortunate with the weather.

Four entries per team per event is silly. The coaches classic used to be a preview of the SWO districts now it's like a pre-season meet. I hope those in charge correct this mistake next year. Two per event and bring back the relays.

It was not very pleasant today. Which pretty well describes our season. No meet this year makes my all time worst weather list, but a lot of bad ones. Today included. Might have been better to run last night.

I was counting my blessings today. However, the meet I was at last night was delayed nearly 90 minutes by a period of high winds. The winds came midway through the field events and felt like it was never going to end even though radar clearly indicated it would. Once the wind and a very brief period of sideways rain subsided, it was a very nice night to run distance - not too chilly, and the flags were hanging limp. Sprinters and field event athletes probably would've liked it to be a little warmer.

Even the nicest meet weather my school had last year included the mandatory 30-minute delay for a distant rumble of thunder. Great meet weather has been rather hard to come by of late. Maybe my school's dual meet on Tuesday will be the day when it finally comes together.
