school size
(Quote from Bobcat QB)As of today, Cambridge would be the 6th largest school of 10 in MVL and would probably be 7th/8th this time next year. If that happens, I'd rather be in the B8 and playing St.C, UL, MF, and Bellaire than a "small" school division in MVL with New Lex, Morgan, West M and Crooksville..yuck.

Doesn't look like Cambridge is smaller than those schools in the future.

Am I reading that correctly,Cambridge will drop to 152 then 103 and then 87? I really thought the Cambridge population would explode with the oil and gas, being at the intersection of I70 and 77 should make it a hub.

Actually, it is the reverse. 87 is the enrollment in the 12th grade. So, the lower grades in Cambridge actually have the higher enrollment. Bear in mind, though, these aren't predictive measures. These were *actual* enrollment numbers reported October 2016. So, if the energy boom draws families to the area, those numbers would go up across the board.

Ok that makes sense, but the 10th 11th and especially the 12th grades stick out like sore thumbs, the city of Cambridge is about the same size as Dover, what happened 16-18 years ago that no one hardly had sex in Cambridge.

Cambridge city is only a little over 10,600 and shrinking, Dover almost 13,000 and growing. Most oil/gas growth is still east of us but suppossedly will be this way more over next several years.
Hope those figures hold Teach but this year was a record for lost due to open enrollment and until oil/gas comes back I don't see it changing. BG, if those numbers were predictive then I would assume they took into consideration the previous energy growth a few years ago..while we did gain a few because of it, we lost many more b/c of OE and many kids leaving again because energy dried up and they went back south.

As I said, the numbers are NOT predictive. You could have 150-180 kids in grade 2, but by grade 10, it might be 100-120, if the economy in the area is such that young families leave for 'greener pastures', whether that is a district with OE or moving to Central Ohio to Dublin, Hilliard, etc.

Who are the schools that Cambridge loses the most students to under Open Enrollment?

You’d think Dover and Phila would be attractive schools to join a league, they bring huge crowds and are always worth a lot of harbin points

The big shake up is when Athens wants to make the TVC bigger. Marietta will leave the ECOL. Zanesville is already out the door with the new league with Logan.

Both schools are also on I-77 so travel to our schools is not bad for most schools. I know both Phila and dover are picking up Louisville in some middle school schedules and look for it to only increase in the years to come throughout. I can see Phila, dover, Wooster, and Louisville in a league in the near future. Just not sure who else will want to come with us? Canton Central is the only other that makes total sense.

I like Marietta in the league but I doubt their exit would have more of an impact than Dover and NP. Marietta is the main reason Dover and NP want out..sick of that drive. If they left and Zville stayed maybe Dover/NP would stay..guess it's a moot point now that Zville is leaving anyway.
Journey, I don't understand why it's taken this long for D/NP to find a new home. Looking since Zville/Marietta got in. Always liked the league and want it to continue but we're spoiled being in the middle and having shorter drives. Just seems like everyone has given up for some reason.

I doubt that West Holmes would ever leave the Cardinal Conference. But played Phila past few years and had some great crowds, and used to play Dover back about 10 years ago.
The old CC with Dover and New Phila in it was perfect back in the day.

with all I read on here and other places
It seems there is a growing concern of programs being told to have cross overs or playing lopsided games (meaning enrollment disparities)
I am beginning to think maybe the "8" school league is not as "perfect" as it once was.
Maybe a 6 school league would benefit to allow more flexibility in the scheduling of football.
Play the back 5 in league - opens up games the first 5 weeks
Sounds like Dover/NewPhilly have Louisville as an interested party to the north...and maybe CCC???
thats 4 - 2 more and its a go - Wooster is mentioned? are they looking to change?
My opinion is if you get 6....7 and 8 will come along eventually and knock on the door to get in.

The major issue is that Dover and New Philadelphia are outliers, they’re at least 30 minutes from the Canton schools (more like an hour) and are too large for other schools in T-Coubty to compete.

Time to get Dover, New Philadelphia and Louisville on the same page.

No IVCace. Claymont should be in a league with Dover and Phila but instead of accepting the challenge and getting better the last 20 years they decided to develop a woe is me mentality with every sport except wrestling. Enjoy those big IVC victories...

Cold hard facts are that no other schools exist close to Dover or phila that are looking to form a new league. The only hope I can see is Dover, phila,Louisville, and Steubenville. Would need 1 or ideally 2 more but who,I don't know. If not a league maybe these 4 could at least end the season by playing each other when spots are hard to fill for independents.

doverbuck, what we know - Louisville, New Philly, Dover, CCC - no league or soon to have no league.
those four should form up a league. Yeah 4 teams. do it. Won't be long, others would come knocking - and if not finding 7 games is easier than finding 10 games.

Sounds like Styx is worked up about the fact that Dover can’t find a suitable league. Keep in mind it was Coshocton, Meadowbrook and Dover who pushed to move the ECOL to two teirs which forced Claymont to try and schedule week ten games with non-league opponents. The difference in enrollment between Claymont and Dover/New Philadelphia was larger when the new IVC was formed than the difference between Claymont and Newcomerstown. Competition and travel is way better for Claymont. Have fun trying to find a new league.

I’m sorry but ‘the competition is better’ may be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. If by better you mean wayyyyy weaker and Claymont has a better chance at competing I’d buy that.

OCC west- Sr High, Madison, Ashland, Lex, MV
OCC east- Dover, New Philly, West Holmes, Wooster, Louisville
4 league games and 1 crossover in weeks 6-10. schedule non-conf in 1-5. 4 and 5 would be tough, but you could always crossover unofficially during those weeks is 2 schools can't find a game.
poach Shelby and add CCC if you want. Make it 6 & 6.

I don’t know if that’s true.
Cardinal Conference is viable, maybe the Fed would be interested in Dover Phila and Louisville to join Lake and Green and go two tier again like they used to be, or maybe a new league with CCC Louisville Steubenville and someone from NBC like a Canton South.
Dover and Phila come as a package and would Give a boost to any league, I’m sure the ADs are working on it.

Compared to the two tiered ECOL the IVC competition is much better. Only Coshocton was consistently good in the small school ECOL, the IVC has 3 tremendous programs with Ridgewood, Garaway and IV and Tusky Valley is no slouch either.

Clear Fork leaving the OCC has to be a pain for them. they have an odd number now, which means out of conference games every week. No AD wants to search for an OOC game week 7,8,9,10! Seems they would be open to something!

Coshocton has won more playoff games than the entire IVC south combined. And Tusky Valley is a slouch, has been since the Martini years. Garaway and Ridgewood are pretenders. Indian Valley is the only real football team in that league.
