Some believe they’ll strive better in an underachiever role, while the other side of the coin needs to be nurtured and told how great they are.
Love walk ons, even better when they finally get that scholarship.

Exactly. Baker Mayfield was a walk-on. Heisman Trophy winner. But yes My2sense thinks it's trash for a kid to follow his dream.

As a preferred walk on and being “in state”— he barely has to pay anything and that is without the academic scholarships he is getting. Get an education at Ohio State for almost nothing? Seems to have worked out well for Austin.

Not to mention a WR in Meyers system that isn’t afraid to go over the middle and basically catches everything thrown to him.

Do any of you have any firm percentages how many walk ons preferred or otherwise that eventually become scholarship player? Given that there are 130 FBS schools and the lower tier probably will skew the numbers because that is more likely, I actually liked this kid’s game, he got awful advice, wherever it came from. One tick too slow or half an inch too short or 20 lbs too skinny are usually disqualifies and there isn’t a thing wrong with being just under OSU caliber (which a preferred walk on is) the name of the game is to get a degree & do so with no family investment a full boat elsewhere accomplished that.

Oh I see now why the Massilloons were all worked up. They really do believe that we sit around and watch and plan our lives around this stuff like they do. LOL
and BTW - my comment still stands. Best of luck to the young man but for every Baker Mayfield there are hundreds of kids who regret the choice. "Rudy" is great but no one makes a movie about the kids who chose wrong.

You don’t sit around and watch and plan your life around this stuff? You have over 1,000 posts on what your 10th Yappi account? You’re completely obsessed with Massillon football.

It makes you wonder what else he has in life. It also definitely makes me appreciate the family and friends I have, so my life doesn't revolve around a community that I don't like because of their high school football team.

What are you disagreeing with? I'm not rooting against anyone, just stating facts. Mayfield is the exception that proves the rule.

As jaded as society is in a general sense, it comes as no surprise there are many out there second guessing a young man's decision to pursue his dream. It generally goes against conventional wisdom to pursue dreams, but kudos to the young man for having the courage to bet on himself and play against the odds in an attempt at a shot, just a chance to fulfill those dreams. There is no doubt in my mind the young man will make the most of those opportunities. Always easy to second guess...
Anyway spring is here, football season not too far in the distance. Hopefully we're gearing up for another great year from our Tigers. My only concern this year for the Tigers is going to be upfront along the LOS. Williams kid should be a stud, whom will emerge for us this year? To get to that next level we have to be solid upfront and have some depth come playoffs. Go Tigers!

23 the lines will be fine and maybe better than last year. We return 3 started from last years Oline and have some very good young talent. Look for Cole Jones to be in the mix, also the Burgess kid as well. Last years freshman had some big kids as well.
I think this team will be special, it’s early but will last years Success in the many starters returning anything but another final for appearance would be a bust.

Oh No!!! You didn't. The Federal League re-education program should have taught you we cannot wish any playoff success to our team. That is strictly against Federal League policy. Please change your post to say "We wish success to our team and truly hope they are competitive in their games". Thank you for your understanding.

M2M I predict a 9-1 or 8-2 regular season and a matchup with Perry for the Region in the playoffs. Obviously a State Title is on everyone's mind this year and I believe we have to be considered in the conversation in DII. For us to do that things are going to have to develop for us and of course some good fortune along the way.
MT96, I hope you're right about those Sophomores being able to step up for us upfront. Would be nice to see the lines be more dominant than last year's. Hopefully Jones kid has a break out year this year,he's a big aggressive kid.

The run D has to be better this year ! 200 yds a game and 5 yds a carry won’t beat Hoban.

The O Line will be ok! The transfer from G.O. is a flat out stud and we have a good oline coach who does a pretty good job of getting his kids to over-achieve

Coach was a great and gracious man. I had the opportunity to talk to him a couple of times in my life. The last was in the lobby of the Hampton Inn a couple of years ago the Friday night before the McKinley game. Godspeed, Coach Bruce. You are an icon in both Massillon and Columbus.
