Bad Weather / School Closings

With the Weather Channel predicting 5-8 inches of snow for NE Ohio, what happens to the schools who close on Friday and, by BOE rules, will not let the wrestlers participate in districts Friday afternoon/night? Can't remember this happening in a while.

A few years back.... Snow storms shut down Northern Districts on Friday and we wrestled whole Mentor District on Saturday. Long day and truly a trial by fire!

I know some of the districts have the weather related backup plans posted in their websites.

I was on the mat for that and I never want to do it again. Saturday was stupid long for everyone.

At Garfield Hts, if there is a weather issue, they say we are going to do the Friday session on Saturday starting at 1 pm with one extra round of consi's run.
The Saturday round would move to Sunday with the semi's starting at 11 am and wrestling straight through.

It'll take more than 1 or 2 schools closing to shut down the entire tournament. I know the last time this happened, the district board was planning to run the tournaments and was in touch with many schools. Roads remained under a level 1 or 2 past the point of no return so they changed plans.

So if one school is not allowed to wrestle, then what, they put alternates in their places? Hypothetically, the 9 Bay wrestlers are not allowed to wrestle in the Norwalk District, by the Bay BOE rules, then all those 9 spots would then be filled by alternates?

I don't have that answer. Possibly... if Bay cancels school and other schools make the trip, I'm willing to bet Bay makes the trip as well. Common sense applies, but honestly, most roads are clear and safe by 10am for an overnight snow.

2011 was the year with the major snow in the north/northeast.

Mentor completely butchered it by wrestling everything but the medal round on Saturday. My goodness were people cranky and tired by the end of that day.

Garfield Hts deployed the same contingency plan they are going to use this year, and that's one which makes sense: wrestle two front side rounds and two back side rounds, come back to the consi quarters and champ semis on Sunday morning.

I saw that there a number of schools in Northeast Ohio that are closed today. If the districts are still held, do the wrestlers get an extra pound?

I believe the rule about extra pound is not based on school day but whether they were able or unable to hold practice. Since schools wouldn't hold practice anyways during school hours, I don't think the extra pound comes into play.

But I could be wrong, so don't take that to the bank

..Not sure what is going on yet but we will be paying close attention. My son wrestles in the Alliance district and his school is closed today. However, they still have a bus taking them to the event. Not sure about the other schools around us.
