Kettering Fairmont D-1 District Rankings #4

I welcome any insight into which weights certain wrestlers are competing, because I know that Iím bound to be off with some wrestlers.

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

220 - Smith (Beavercreek) will be back in action this week.
I think you may have overlooked 220 - Ivan Pace (Colerain) and the dark horse at 220 - Jared Uran (LaSalle)

You are absolutely right - Jared Uran wouldn't stand a chance in that field of competitors.

Now that I have stopped dreaming and come back to reality. I don't know yet if Jared will decide to wrestle for the individual states. He may just be there to help the team with the state duals title.

However, if he does decide to wrestle in the individual state, regardless of the fact that he has taken a few years off, he will be one of the favorites to win it. You may ask...how can I suggest that a person who hasn't wrestled in a few years could be a competitor for the state championship?

Easy answers...

Some people win state championships based on hard work and dedication, while others win state championships purely based on the fact that they are a better athlete than anyone else in the field. I can say with confidence that if Jared decides to wrestle for the individual state that he will be one of the very best athletes in the field.

Jared had 10+ years of experience in the LaSalle youth wrestling program. There are very few skills that he will need to learn to be a state level quality competitor.

The last time he competed he won the OAC state championship rather handily.

More importantly, who you workout with on a daily basis is a high predictor of how good you become and he will be working with Baker on a daily basis. Can you think of anyone else in that weight class that has that tough of workout partner?

Please understand - I don't have a dog in this race and I'm not a LaSalle supporter. I've been around wrestling for more than 3 decades and at this point it is pretty easy to spot the great ones as they are few and far between. The first time I saw Jared Uran hit an ankle pick I knew he was going to be something special as he made it look effortless.

So, I'll take by your post that as I suggested Jared Uran will have the toughest set of workout partners:

#3 - 182 - Trey Sizemore
#1 - 195 - Michael Baker
#6 - 285 - Robert Brown

Of course, it is also important to note that this thread is in regards to KF District. I don't think it is hard to imagine that once he wrestles in a few events that he will be included in this list and very likely near the top of the list. Time will tell.

Doesn't Uran have a scholarship/ commitment to the University of Akron? So would he risk a D1 football scholarship over a couple months of wrestling from which getting that football scholarship is the reason he hasn't wrestled since 8th grade? Seen a few guys highly ranked the past few years stop wrestling to pursue football endeavors.

You are right on count #1: he does have a full ride offer for football to Akron.

On count #2: that is the reason that I suggested he may or may not decide to go on for individual state tourney as he was most likely recruited to help with achieving the state dual championship.

On count #3: I spoke with Jared and his father at the Junior High state before he had won. Jared brokered a deal with his dad that if he won the JH state that he could drop wrestling to focus on baseball for high school. Funny, but I don't know if he ever made the team for baseball.

I don't know what they will decide but as a parent I would want my kid to participate as much as possible in high school because it comes to an end very quickly and all you are left with are the memories of what you participated.

The fact that he ďbrokered a dealĒ to quit wrestling tells me he didnít like it that much. As a parent Iíd tell my kid not to risk getting hurt in a sport that he hasnít participated in since jr high for the sake of possibly helping his HS team when he has a D1 scholarship in football.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baumís Page and Jakeís Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

At 160 has Walker and Mondello actually wrestled where Walker would be suggested to be ahead of Mondello ?

Mondello lost 1-0 to Walker Heard and beat Jestin Love 8-4 at SWOWCA. However, Borofan still has Dillon Walker and Jestin Love ranked ahead of Mondello - I assume based on the rest of their accomplishments or possibly a little name confusion with Walker and Walker.

Walker's only losses were at Ironman 3-2 to Brady who is ranked 2nd in the nation, and in overtime to 2x state placer Walker Heard. He also pinned former state qualifier Spears.
That being said, Mondello has been wrestling great so far this season.

I have Love/Hardrick/Mondello as a trio = They have all beaten each other. Hardrick beat Mondello last year 6-3, I believe it was 3 takedowns to 0 (My notes could be wrong). This year Mondello beat Love and Love beat Hardrick. Mondello could be the leader of the trio since his loss to Hardrick was last year, but I ultimately went with Love due him being the only returning SQ - I will look into each of their overall bodyís of work before Tuesdayís rankings.

I think you are absolutely right here that the three are evenly matched any one of them could beat the other on a given day. It will be interesting to see which one of them cranks up their training to grab the remaining tickets to the Schott! My money is on Mondello.

I think you may have overlooked 220 - Ivan Pace (Colerain) and the dark horse at 220 - Jared Uran (LaSalle)
I had Pace in the earlier rankings, but I haven't seen a result from him yet, so I removed him for the time being.
I saw that Uran was on the alphas at the beginning of the season, but I wasn't sure if he was actually wrestling, or where he would fit into the line-up. I'm excited to see what he can do if he is indeed participating.

Boro Fan reported that Heyward got pinned by Pace in a dual and that Pace was winning the whole match prior to the pin. Pace had a late start due to football.

I haven't heard anything further on Uran. I referred to him as a dark horse but I probably should have said "potential" dark horse as it is yet to be seen if he will actually wrestle.

Good to see that Smith is back in action too.
