California Passes Law Requiring Women On Corporate Boards

https://www.npr.org/2018/10/01/65331...rporate-boards

Quote:
The law, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday, requires public companies whose principal executive offices are located in California to comply by the end of 2019. The minimum is two female directors if the company has five directors on its board, or three women if it has seven directors by the close of 2021.

I would like to point out to all corporations in Ca. maybe it is time to move when the state govt starts telling you how your have to run your company. Think about this lower taxes good chance lower wages because of a lower cost of living and good chance if you talk nice you can get lots of tax breaks to move to certain cities. Come east to the midwest and enjoy the good life.

I'm sure there are a lot of states that would happily take in the corporate refugees

I wonder how many companies that actually effects? Most California companies are incorporated in Delaware, can California change the rules of incorporation for a company that is organized somewhere else?

Boards ARE tokenism. It's an inherited buddy system. They are hardly puritanical individualism in action. Of the many objectionable social engineering movements, I'm not so much against this one. At the worse I foresee, no harm no foul.

Can all the dudes in California that chop off mr winky be counted as women for the board ?

Or what about if a guy just says he's a woman? Aren't dems all about you counting yourself in how you identify ?
Or is biology only used when they see fit ?

How many public companies whose principal executive offices are located in California will move to another state? All, or just most?

None of them will move because of this. All they will do is add a token female member if they are non-compliant.

Reminds me of some years ago when California was thinking about pushing through legislation to tax retirees of the US government (mostly military) the percentage of their
retired pay for the time spent in California. I'm sure they would have used APO and FPO San Francisco as being a resident of California for those years spent in the Far East.

why, thank you!

at the worse, no harm no foul. Some promise of a better understanding of the new wealth. More of it is going into female hands though individual effort and inheritence. Boards that reflect that might have insights that grow the company.

This is just another very small act of giving up a small and unimportant freedom. How many of those do we allow before we find out we have just given up and are now being controlled by our govt for are own good.

If a California company has an all-female board, are they required to add men to balance the equation?

What about companies that do not have boards. I worked for a very large trucking company that was 100% family owned and the owner said he would never allow a board of directors to tell him how to run his company, and knowing him as I do, I truly think he did not care if it was with or without women

The law also requires private family owned companies to establish a board unfortunately.

Seems like a pretty dumb thing for the owner of a privately held company to be worried about.

If they are a corporation they have to. A family owned business that is not incorporated will not have to comply.

No, Al is right, read the article. They're forcing private family-owned businesses to incorporate.

California hates people of color and other minorities!

Why is California only forcing women on Boards? Shouldn't Boards be made to look like the population? Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, gays, stoners, conservatives, evangelicals, rednecks...…. if you're going to set a quota, why stop at women?

Since California is inserting their own requirements for management, I'm sure that they are going to guarantee positive results from this. Maybe lower taxes or give some other incentive for companies to do this - since a lot of companies move out of California when they feel that the government is asking for something without giving something back.

Above it says "public companies". If this also pertains to private, family businesses/corporations, then I would say fokk off.
