Division III Region 9 Final-#1 Canfield Cardinals (11-1) Vs #2 Kenston Bombers (11-1)

Canfield defeated Kenston 27-7 in their first ever meeting in 1996. Canfield more recently defeated the Bombers 25-7 in 2015 and 44-12 in 2016, Kenston was in Division II in the last two meetings. Canfield has yet to lose against Kenston.
Canfield is coming off of an impressive 30-7 victory over the Orientals who many thought would win this region. Canfield scored 30 unanswered points after East took a 7-0 lead late in the 2nd quarter, Canfield went ahead 10-7 just before half and never looked back.
Meanwhile Kenston defeated #3 seed Buckeye 40-21. Kenston's lone loss was to Chardon in week 9 24-27, a team Canfield defeated 35-13 in week 3.
The Hilltoppers are the only common opponent.

Who do you think will come out on top?

The Cards are playing real well in the playoffs.
Kenston will definitely challenge them however.

I think Canfield wins this one by 7-10.

Good luck next week against the Bombers!

I really am impressed with the Cardinals the past 5 weeks or so. I think Canfield wins this one and moves onto the state semifinals. I’ll say Canfield by 2 scores. 27-14.
What’s the opinion of location for this game? Mollenkopf or maybe the Cards will be put back in Ravenna again?

Imo the region 9 final was tonight and Canfield rolled. They'll put Kenston away early imo. Goodluck cards!

Kenston has a lot of weapons and a lot of balance. They can throw it to any of 3 very good WR, a tall mismatch of a TE and the RB. QB is accurate and makes good decisions. RB is their best player. It is hard to stop it all.

Canfield on the other hand has absolutely zero balance. Can’t throw it and shouldn’t even try. Defense is suffocating.

My 2 bold predictions-
1) Simkon’s made up streak of under 20 points given up for Canfield will he snapped.
2) Canfield wins 28-27

Ahhh I can’t do it. Canfield by 3 TDs and the made up points streak continues.

Looks like Canfield has a long under 30 streak or under 25 points allowed streak.
They have an 8 game under 20 streak though.

I never said under 20 by the way, I said "20 points or less."
The streak is 25 consecutive games of allowing 20 points or less.
The steak is I think an additional 5 or 10 games for 30 points or less. I would have to check that one, as it goes back beyond last season.

Struthers in 2016 scored 38 on Canfield. 31 offensively.

Good call Simkon. This ones headed to warren Mollenkopf. Maybe Hubbard Girard as well? Would they do back to back days at one site?

I wouldn’t mind Niles or Ravenna however local news WFMJ is reporting the game will most likely be played at Mollenkopf.

Going to be cold again this week, looks like light winds less than 10 mph, Kenston much more of a passing team but that wind shouldn’t really effect them. Kenston doe a great job with the hurry up of tiring teams out especially D-lines but I’d say Canfield has 1 of the smallest D-lines and lots of kids in shape. I’d say most of them are around 200 lbs, Hallof and Hofus are a bit bigger, but D’Alesio, Giordano, Sammarone are probably all around 200 or so, but all in great shape....

I seen that Kenston QB on film. he is a gunslinger, and good accuracy too

Have had multiple sources tell me there's MAJOR internal discord between Kenston QB and coaching staff. Hearing these stories makes me think there's no way Kenston wins this game.

Canfield by a touchdown. 10-3. I believe this will be a game of tough defense

Could be a low scoring game but I think there will be more pts than that. I say Canfield wins this 1, 21-10...

I agree in that this will be a lower scoring game. The key to this game will be for Canfield to get up early on Kenston and make them throw. I was told that the Kenston QB the day before first playoff game during the walk through practice got hit in the throwing hand by a football thrown by one of the coaches. Swelled up and entire hand turned an ugly black and blue. More than likely fractured his thumb. Doctor advised him not to play but the kid still did, which is why he also threw with a glove on. Noticeably less velocity on his passes and really threw some ducks. From what I hear, the following week of practice the coaches insisted he continue to throw during the week instead of resting it even though the hand still looked ugly and was causing a lot of pain. I'm hearing he re-injured the hand this week at practice. I think we will really see the difference in the game once Kenston is forced to throw if trailing.

I think this kid will be ready to go, and I think the Cards are preparing as if he is 100 percent. Cards D is Tenacious, but Kenston offense is for real with outstanding balance. Cards will need to put some long drives together.
