East would have won if they could have either converted all their PATs or tied it if they converted two 2-point tries.

Thought the same. Played right into Girard hands. Congrats Indians and ICBM.

Should be a shootout next week, both teams can put up points, I still think the region runs through Steubenville/Hubbard Winner

Tough pill for you and your guys tonight Panther.
Falling so far behind in the first half didn’t help.

You guys had an awesome season. Nothing to be ashamed of.
The future is bright for the Golden Bears!

Good luck next year ....

Thanks all. Happy ending. Easts Cinderella season ends but wow.
They had a horrible first half with 4/5 turn overs. The second half, Girard did the same. I give a lot of credit to Girards pass defense. They ran step for step on the final drive and broke up three long passes that were right on the money.
I was confident Girard would score. Didn’t know if we could stop them. Got the last stop when they needed it. Win and move on.

True. Narrower uprights for college didn’t help. Lots of couldas and ifs in that game. But it went pretty much like I predicted. Girard moves the ball. East made mistakes and turnovers. I did not predict the third quarter melt down in Girard committing five turnovers and basically a blocked punt covered at the 10.
Perry next. Pay back time. They aren’t quite as good as last year and Girard is a little better. Another shoot out coming up. Hope it’s dry and a little warmer.

"We?" No offense, but do you talk to anybody in Warren? Our own people clowned Harding all year! Did you see the crowd at the game last night? Might as well have played on the road! Garfield created some opportunities on special teams that helped them pull away and Donald Willis is the best defensive player that we saw this year. If that game is played 10 times, you'd have 10 different results, but last night just wasn't our night. Garfield's program deserved it though, so congrats to them!

As far as East goes, they brought their program a long way, but I knew they'd be a lot better after Yeboah, Washington, and Cylar transfered to East. In fact, they may have been better off starting their backup QB more often, or at least giving him more reps. Solid athlete. The entire state is lucky that Youngstown can't keep all of their athletes in the same school for an extended period of time because the entire area has benefitted from the city's talent.

In any case, I would've had the game at Rayen. I'm sure that you remember when WGH brought in a helicopter to get the field ready before their playoff game against Cleveland St. Ignatius in 2002. East hasn't played at home in 3 weeks, so their field couldn't have been that bad.

One last tidbit. On Girards KO after they scored with 1:33 left to retake the lead, QB Mark Waid talked his way into the kick off team and in true hero fashion ran down and made the tackle. Kid just makes plays.

He must have learned that from Lynn Bowden last week. Sounds similar

^^When you mentioned that about Waid, it made me think of when Bowden told Stoops he wanted to go in and return that punt, and Stoops said get out there and do your thing. Bang, he returns it 67 yards for a TD, to get UK back in the game.

Man Waid played a hell of a game Girard defense came up big at the end. Can't stop here though, more work to do.

ICBM took a lot of heat this week for being confident in his team and their QB. A lot of folks are ‘eating crow’ tonight.

Congrats to Girard on the W. Good luck next week!

I rode past Rayen yesterday. Good decision to play at YSU. If East was some slower plodding team I could understand. But they aren't gonna stay at that sty with a nice shiny turf right down the street

Thanks. But there was reason to doubt by those who aren’t around this group. A weak schedule gave no true gage and Girard struggled defensively against their biggest test in Hubbard. But as I’ve said all season, you can only play who’s on the schedule. Hopefully Girard has a few more believers after this win and some of them follow them to the next round and cheer them on against a very good Perry team next week. Perry is a lot like Girard. They air it out early and often. And have a young big back in Anderson who runs people over. Or sprints away from them. Another challenge awaits. But this is pay back time. And Girard will get it done.

I dont believe anybody has run away. I'm really the only East poster and I said Congrats to him. Nobody said Girard didn't gave a chance. People just thought East would win. I said if Waid went beast mode Girard had a good chance of winning

Good luck against Perry
