No West Clermont HS in Region 4? Ameila/Glen Este are still listed in D2 Region 8 but neither exist any longer.

UA and Gahanna in Region 2 is odd. Plus Region 1 only has 17 teams while Region 2 has 19. Why not put Gahanna in R1 to balance out the numbers?

County lines. They split Franklin in DI and Cuyahoga in DII. They only like to split counties into two regions. 8/4 split looked more balanced than a 9/3 split I guess. I'd have put Gahanna into R3. The line would be less tilted that way.

When West Clermont is added to R4 later this Summer, will Findlay be dropped to D 2? My guess is no.

Maybe, but that still doesn't explain Upper Arlington in Region 2. Bizarre

Region 2 with Whitmer , Coffman and upper Arlington is a little better
Region 1 and 4 are still the strongest. At least 2 isn't a complete joke now

In the past the OHSAA hasn't recognized schools opening/closing until July. West Clermont and Kenmore/Garfield should be moved then. Will they be? Who knows.

They should take Lorain or Brunswick and put them in R1 to balance all 4 regions at 18 teams. Strongsville in R1 is pretty much between Lorain and Brunswick.

Interesting.Despite being so close geographically, the 3 Hilliard schools are in region 3 while the 2 Dublin schools are in Region 2. All the regions as a whole seem more balanced.

R3 is a lot tougher than it used to be, moving the rest of the GWOC teams there (Centerville, Northmont, to go along with Wayne). I actually think R4 is below R3 on the whole. R4 is still top heavy with Colerain and the GCL schools, but R3 has more meat in the middle IMO.

They probably should have put Newark in R3, instead of R2. First round game travel between Newark and the Dayton area would be a lot better than travel between Newark and the Toledo area. At least travel between Newark and the Dayton area is a straight shot across I-70.
It really is startling how Westerville North and Westerville South are no longer in DI. Recall that Westerville was the first district to split into two high schools from one back in the day.

Don't think we need to worry about Nerk making the playoffs and having a long drive

Looking at the new R3 it sure looks stacked. Not knowing who has what back I am thinking that 14 of the 18 teams are capable of making the playoffs.

So I'm guessing you're "NO" on Westland, Fairmont, Grove City and Central Crossing??

Newark finished 11th in R2 last year. Not far from making the playoffs at all.

How many times has Nerk made the playoffs the last decade or so ? Are they getting that much better ? May be they are and I missed it or don't know about it . Good luck to them it would be huge for them to make it at some point

you got 3 out the 4 I was thinking... throw in Groveport and take off Central Crossing.... just because they did qualify a few years back. I cannot recall the last time Groveport did....

I know Darby beat Groveport in 2nd round of playoffs in 2007 prior to playing Coffman in regional final.

Region 2 being a joke is all about old guard name power. If you attended the Liberty-Ignatius game, then you would be aware that Liberty gave them all they could handle and were not outmatched. Trace their path in region 2 and the regular season. It is imminent that, outside of the Cleveland and Cincy privates (+ Huber), that the majority of power public D1's will come from Central Ohio.

Watch out for Springfield in region 3. They will be stacked.

Region 2 was a joke. It was by far the weakest region overall. That's not a question. Doesn't mean a strong team or two can't emerge
Columbus doesn't have the majority of the power publics by any measure either

I understand your point MG. I'm just saying I've lived here for 15 years now (E Ohio domestic refugee) and I've seen vast improvement in Columbus area athletics. I guess I went off topic in just stating that a time will come when central Ohio will rule public athletics. The population is exploding and most of these people seem to come from the Cleveland-Toledo-Youngstown areas. If these schools were one city schools, like Mentor or Solon for example, they would be state title contenders every year. Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, Olentangy, and Pickerington High Schools would change the landscape of Ohio hs sports. But they are not, which benefits the kids because there are more opportunities to play, but also hinder the schools when it comes to competing for titles. I know you've heard it all before, but I've seen enough talent spread out in these towns that would create some very formidable sports teams. I know I'm way off topic, I just wanted to rant.

Hard to think how at the turn of the century Olentangy was a singular D2 HS and they'll probably have 4 D1 HS's fairly soon. I wonder if Westerville going to 3 HS's hurt themselves a bit too much. They were the original suburb to go to multiple high schools and they were always strong. 95 they both made the R3 playoffs and played each other when the Big Kat was at South...
Pick Central made the D2 title game in 05 which I think was their last year in D2 and one of their first split years. So yeah, Columbus is definitely going to be the focal point in the future, but I do feel the split high schools beyond 2 hurts them a bit, perhaps too much.

Pickerington Central couldn't have made it because Canfield played Toledo Central Catholic in 2005 for D-II. Pickerington Central was in D-II at least until 2006 because that year they gave Canfield their only loss in I think the 2nd round and Pick Central went on to lose in the State Championship game.

What Columbus does have is publics with state titles.
