Benedictine 2017

Where has the Benedictine football thread gone?

I'm not going to start assuming, not yet.

The other one was getting a little too sideways on some issues and I think it made sense for all that the powers to be here hit the reset button. Hopefully we will not be back to name calling and snide remarks about personnel from either side of the table, if so this thread too will probably be shut down.

Why do posters like Fat Old Bengal, RedBlue, and Ora et Labora keep trying to smear the good reputation of Benedictine. 3 out of my 5 sons attended or are attending Benedictine, with the youngest just finishing his sophomore year. Is Benedictine perfect, no but nothing in this world is; if it were, there would not be enough room in Trueman Fieldhouse to hang all the banners.
Over the course of the last ten years, I am privileged to have gotten to know many who have helped shaped this school. Thank you to the Monks, teachers and coaches who have positively shaped the lives of thousands of young men. As Abbot Gary would say "Go with God; Fight with Heart".
Thank You Benedictine,
Dan Kilbane

I have to imagine that similar posts to, fat old bengals post, is why the last blog was taken down.
My son attends Benedictine. I have personally been involved helping continue the good image of the school for 30 years. I am not a Bennie grad. But still, I help the school, any positive way I can. All alumni should stop bashing the school. It doesn't help anything. All of the hard work many people, including faculty & alumni, have done to make Benedictine relevant, can be thrown away with one ignorant post. Please stop.

I heard grumblings about Levi Pokersnik not playing football this year but now got more solid confirmation that he is not.

Any idea what the problem is? The kid is a pretty good athlete. I thought he could contribute a lot to the team this year.

He's a baseball player, first. Football has always been secondary. I'm guessing he is going to continue playing in college and might not want the punishment he takes as a dual threat QB. He has been sick/injured a couple times in the past. Stay healthy, play baseball in college?

Levi is a Great athlete. He has been injured since the 6th grade playing football. If it's not one thing it's been another when it come to injuries when playing football. I have to assume baseball will be his choice of sport his senior year.

Sounds like a repeat of Romulak. Hope this kid actually plays baseball in college if that is the excuse to not play football his senior year.

from what I have heard he and his parents were very frustrated with the season as a whole and how he was used. I'm pretty sure they wanted him to play running back again and he has no interest in that.

Chris Lorber moves over to head the Advancement Office and steps down from the AD gig.

Carter Welo and Lorber are the number one issue with football program right now!

Him or Marty Highland are the names I'm hearing tossed around. No clue about the validity of either. J Brown makes the most sense and seems like a natural fit.

You have issues sir, figure out what they are, medicate, and get on with your miserable life. I believe under Lorber's tenure, we won a state title in football, got the basketball program back on track, baseball is worth watching again with young talent, lacrosse is a thing and has been successful....what else do you want? You definitely have a screwy agenda and are nothing but a troll. Get the help you need, and live the remaining years happy behind your keyboard...key board tough guy. Abbott Gary will say a prayer for you!

This is a great move. Mr. Lorber is a very good leader and Benedictine needs him in this very important position. After years of do nothing president--Bossu and Lorber will right the ship. Now Welo is another topic.

Welo didn't do himself any favors with the record that the team had last year.

I've said on the previously deleted thread that this is a 5-5 or 6-4 team. I would think that they just miss the playoffs but I suppose they could get a 7 or 8 seed if the planets aligned. Anything worse does make you start to wonder about this coaching staff. Anything better makes you tip your cap and enjoy a round or two of the playoffs.

I continue to hear positive things about the freshmen team so at least there is that to look forward to over the next few years and hopefully they can put together another good class with the class of 2022.

Not football related, but Benedictine takes on Lakewood and St. Vincent-St. Mary's in the Academic Challenge championship match. It will air on Saturday at 7PM on WEWS.

I am in the building all the time and I can say that statement about Fr Gerard is false. He works very hard to make Benedictine better place. There you go Fatbengal getting personal again. Please fellow Bengals let's use this blog to be positive and not make personal attacks on our people.

Not football related; a couple younger basketball players, Davin Zeigler '19 and Andy Barba '20, have picked up MAC level offers. Benny players in general have been having a good summer on the AAU circuit and the basketball program is in good health as they move up to Div I for 2017-18.

I'm very curious to see what district they end up in for hoops. My gut says Solon which I don't think would be a terrible draw. It's going to be an interesting new era for Benedictine basketball.
