Someone is tweaking the schedule, because now it says 4:00 for Moeller game and 2:00 for Canada Prep game.
I'm sure they will settle on a time soon.

I sure hope it's not at 4:00. That will make it impossible for me to the see the entirety of both the StX vs Ignatius at Byers at 2:00, then Moeller vs Eds at 4:00. Probably will have to pick 1, and miss 1. That will suck. I know for a fact that 2 years ago it was 2:00 and 5:00. Even 2:00 and 5:00 2 years ago, I missed the first 8 minutes of the Moeller-Eds game by time I drove from Byers, then parked 420 blocks away. I also see on MaxPreps that it is 2:00 and 5:00. Where are you seeing 4:00? You could be right, but I really hope not. Will be disappointed.

If we were to compile a list of the 10 greatest games in St. Edward football history, what would make the list?
As I think back, you would need to include the 56-28 drubbing of Warren Western Reserve, there was a 1964 win over St. Joe's which snapped a 25 game win streak for the Vikings. 36-0 over Steubenville was huge for their reputation across the state. The first state championship game win was a classic too. Other games after that though?
There were awful losses in great games. 21-20 to Fairfield in the state title game along with the 1975 loss to Moeller 14-12. 35-34 in 3OT to St. Ignatius obviously too. 1978 to Moeller was another great game with a tough loss, 17-14.
More recently I feel like it is harder to figure out. The 2003 win over Mentor stands out to me, 13-10. 17-7 in '05 over Glenville too. 2012's Holy War might have been the most fun with the flea flicker touchdown and great catch by Dowell. What are some other's thoughts?

Eagle ruggers take on St. Ignatius in the D1 state championship this Saturday at Rocky River High School. Ignatius won the lone match up this year 26-17. Eagles are coming off sound 31-17 victory over Moeller in the semis. Wildcats received a bye to the finals after St. X withdrew all their teams from the state tournament.
The B and U-16 teams will also be squaring off against Ignatius in their respective championship games leading up to the D1-A final.

Good for him! I think Coach D'Antonio runs a good program and the Dowell brothers seem to be the perfect sort of players for his style.

CatAlum studying up on his talking points, I'd guess?
In all seriousness, replacing long-time teachers will always stir up debate. Not sure if the reality in anywhere near what is being said.

It's hit everywhere else. Even Breitbart picked it up. SMH. Liberals have done such a snappy job with public schools. Why not let the virus infect our parochials.

Just in case Mailman has yet to get the news, the varsity Cats defeated the hapless Eagles 17=7 for the state championship, and presumably the national title from whatever organizations awards such things.

Ignatius took a significant tumble in the national rankings after losing to Moeller and not competing at the national tournament. The win over Ed's probably gets them near the top ten, but nowhere near #1 this year.

I was at the game, hapless is not a word I would use to describe the Eagles. What I do question are the missed calls at the end of the game. The knock on by Ignatius that was missed right before their final try. And the knock on called on Ed's that is still a mystery. Good game last night, Ed's played much better than the previous matchup. Final note, Ignatius in no way deserves a #1 ranking. Ed's has produced better teams than the 2017 Wildcats.

I have been following Wildcat rugby all season, at all the levels. I think everyone involved with the program was very pleasantly surprised at the #1 national ranking, especially after the loss to Gonzaga. I think it was the loss in the final of the Midwest Tournament that knocked them out of #1 and the loss to Moeller sealed the deal. For some reason, I don't think Ignatius has ever participated in the National Tournament. This is the first year that Ignatius has defeated the Eagles at all levels (freshman, varsity A, B and C) during the regular season. The Eagles may have had better teams in the past, but this may signal a shift in the balance of power for the future.

Maybe, but there is so much back and forth between I don't think one is better positioned than the other. Ed's graduated a pretty talented class last year and had some significant players missing most of the season this year. So hard to tell if this is a harbinger or just a down year for Ed's.

I think I read somewhere that the Elder vs St. Eds football game on Saturday 9/16 is scheduled to be played at Bedford High School. Does anyone know if that is 100% confirmed and accurate? And what time is the the game? I've seen 12:00, 2:00, and 7:00.

Currently scheduled for 7PM at Bedford. You never know when these long trips provoke a move to 2PM to aid in bus travel. But I'd guess it will stay at 7.

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping it stays ay 7:00. I have a nice Friday/Saturday triple header planned if all the chips fall right. That week on Friday I want to go to Byers for the Det. Catholic vs. Ignatius game. Then after the game drive to Toledo and spend the night. Then Saturday at noon go to Ann Arbor for the the Air Force at Michigan game. Then hustle to Bedford for the Elder vs St. Eds 7:00 game. (hopefully at Bedford and at 7:00). Ironically, I have a sister that lives in Bedford, so after the game I would crash there, and then come back to Erie Sunday morning. But it won't work if they move the time of the Elder/Eds game.

Anyone else upset that Hoban wouldn't sign on to play St. Ed's again this year but are playing Ignatius in week one?

Looking forward to the upcoming 2017 Eagles' football season, learning the names of the young men on the field representing the community, and the opportunity to see them compete on Fridays and Saturdays this fall.
Go Eagles!

I'd need some assistance filling in a complete projected starting lineup, but here's what I'd guess so far:
Offense
QB: Garrett Dzuro (Jr)
RB: Jordan Castleberry (Jr)
WR: Damerisse Freeman (Sr)
WR: Devin Maddox (Sr)
WR: Quintel Kent (Jr)
WR:
OT: Caleb Herring (Jr)
OG:
OC:
OG:
OT:
Defense
DE: Will Henry (Sr)
DT: Dontae Cilenti (Sr)
DT:
DE:
OLB:
MLB: Omar Fattah (Sr)
OLB:
CB: Mike Dowell (Sr)
FS: Darnell Shields (Sr)
SS: Caden Kolesar (Jr)
CB: Devin Maddox (Sr)

Skilled positions in 2017 look solid. I am assuming the OL and DL will see some new faces and a few Juniors manning those roles in the upcoming season?

I added a few players I think are likely to see starting roles. And yes, I think we could see a number of juniors in the lineup this year as opposed to last year's senior dominated team. I think this group could do some damage this year coming in a little under the radar after replacing so much from last year, but the following season could see them with the target on their backs.
Quarterback competition will be interesting with two good options in senior Zach Kincaid and junior Garrett Dzuro. Dzuro was thrust in to the spotlight when Kramer went down last year, so you have to imagine he is the preferred choice. Gives them more of the run-pass option. Castleberry is poised to break out at the RB position. Reminds me of former Eagle Frankie Edmonds. Tylan Rice should also see touches as more of a bruising, short yardage back. Freeman came on at the WR position in the playoffs and hopefully that carries into this season. Nice, big target. Maddox is the slot guy who they will try to get touches to in space. And Kent was a big time playmaker on the JV team who I think could break out at WR as well. O-line should have more size than last year.
On defense, there are a number of talented players in the secondary. Safety combo of Shields and Kolesar should be a very good one. Dowell projects as a safety but will play corner for us, and I think Maddox could line up opposite him this year as opposed to being primarily an offensive guy. Fattah is the anchor at linebacker, capable of playing inside or out, and has all-State potential. Not sure who will fill out the rest of the LB's and DL, but one thing to watch will be Will Henry's transition from WR to DE. Has the desired length for the position at 6'5. We'll see if he has a good first step and some nastiness to him. Definitely a physical guy on the hard court. If he takes well to the position that could be a big addition.

I went to Hudl and looked up videos for the projected 2017 St. Eds projected QB (Garrett Dzuro- based on Eaglepride1's list). He looks pretty good. I know that it was JV games only, but it doesn't look like they will miss a beat at QB. Looked pretty athletic, will tuck it and can run, solid arm, and looked real accurate. I know it just video clips, but I was impressed. And I think he will only be a junior.
