I haven't read much of this thread so forgive me if I'm being redundant. But the way I see it for our area is kind of a manifest destiny...
The days of old are gone with the real All American Conference, Massillon, Canton, Steubenville, Warren, Niles, Alliance. And as a life long Niles fan I'm fine with that. The old stories are great to hear. As well as looking at the old year books. But it's been time to move on. There's been a lot of things tried, and I never liked this new AAC. I think it's suppose to be decided between two old conferences. The Steel Valley Conference: Harding, Mooney, Ursuline, Boardman, Fitch, East. And The Metro Athletic Conference: Niles, Howland, Canfield, Poland, Hubbard, Struthers, Lakeview. From the rest will fall in place. There could be a Mahoning Valley Conference: Girard, Campbell, Liberty, JFK, Brookfield, LaBrae, Champion, Newton Falls.

Pretty expected. They'll be too small to fit with Harding/Fitch/Boardman and possibly too big for the small schools, but they already have 8 in the conference anyway.

AD at Boardman better find a new game. Playing East is already a waste of time. Try and get Green, Louisville, or Massillon. There's already an open date in 18 I believe.

Dana Balash reporting Chaney and East will play each other week 10 of 2019
I imagine with both schools having teams they will both drop to D4 or D5?

If they can play down in smaller divisions, I'd see both having success. The problem is putting the schedules together.

I don't forsee very many teams lining up to play East and Chaney. It isn't a smart move to schedule East or Chaney for most schools unfortunately.

If you split their enrollment in half from the last count (including CB) they'd both be in the top half of D4, but not 3/4 bubble. Probably reasonable to assume they'll both be D4's.

Probably, but teams down on the river, inner city Cleveland and Akron, Western Pa and a few locals could be willing. Just getting away from Harding, Fitch, Boardman, etc gives them a chance.

As for most of the sentiment, they'll really struggle to find teams to play, especially winnable games. I imagine Canfield/Howland may look to play either East/Chaney to fill out their schedule if needed, I don't see them wanting to play both unless it's their only option. Ursuline/Mooney probably the same, use them as a schedule filler but probably not play both. Maybe Lakeside will be an option now they aren't in a league. Other than that, all the schools their size will be in leagues. And other city schools have their own leagues (Akron city, senate league etc).

The only Akron area teams that will play them are teams that will kill them. They might be able to schedule Senate league teams before league play starts though.

Yeah they should have one winnable game a year in the likes of North. The East Orientals used to be the gimmie win for everyone for about 15 years.

East probably would have beaten Kenmore-Garfield this year...Don't forget Canton Timken was in the Youngstown City series for a few years. The bigger issue is that East and Chaney should NOT be on the schedules of Boardman, Fitch, Harding, Canfield, etc. They serve no purpose. Little-to-no attendance, no Harbins, and so on.

I think those others will schedule them in emergency, instead of a bye week or playing a Canadian team. And sadly east/Chaney probably won't be in a position to turn elsewhere.

Rayen and East have been playing Canfield for about 15 years in a row. So that would probably go on. Other 8 games that I can see scheduling
Liberty
Campbell
East Liverpool
Beaver local
1 Akron city
1 Senate league
1 or 2 Lake Erie League team
Maybe 1 PTC game. Ravenna has been on the schedule in the past. The good thing is the YCS won't have to be on the road for the majority of the year

They wanted to be on the bottom tier with the two teams. AAC didn’t want that collectively so YCS left the AAC.
There aren’t any real conference options for YCS right now. Which sucks for them.
A lot of west siders are happy Chaney will be back.

I’m sure there are several
Local teams that will play them early on. Conference play weeks will be tough for them

I could see this brewing as soon as Youngstown schools was determined to bring sports back to Chaney--they would have done their athletes an injustice to put them up against the larger ACC schools.
I see this situation impacting Howland and Canfield especially as they essentially become independent in football. I think the scramble will be on for each of them to find a new league or at least it should be.
It is time for Harding, Fitch and Boardman to approach Ursuline and Mooney and bring back the final configuration of the Steel Valley Conference.

Boardman’s pretty well set from what I’ve heard for next 3 years schedules. Although East/Chaney split could impact 1 game. But anything would be a decent replacement as far as computer points. And finding a week 1 opponent usually is not as difficult as later in year during most teams’ conference play.

Do you know who we have week 4 next year? Says open date on schedulestar. I know Jackson is on long term, and Poland replaces our week 2 slot with Howland in 2019.

Poland scheduled Boardman week 2? Nice. Must of missed that. I guess that whole afraid to play up narrative Canfield was trying to play wasn’t true at all

Yeah, week 2 home and home in 2019 and 2020. Balash tweeted that out I think the day of the first round. Seems like Poland basically decided to ice out Canfield unless they can work something out week 3.

Yeah probably, and at this point there is likely no way they will play anytime soon. Because Canfield is definitely not going to get rid of anyone in their schedule to accommodate Poland and Poland and/or the NE8 won't do week 10.

In 2019, Poland already has Struthers in week ten.
So week 3 might be the only option for Canfield/Poland.
