Haven't been around for awhile but decided to show up for a few posts!
Last years schedule was one of the toughest they had seen in many years but this year will be one of the weakest in some time unless some teams will step up.

WJ steps up into D-5 region 20 this season with no Coldwater or Marion Local in sometime really only 2 MAC teams.
Region 20 used to be one of the toughest regions in Ohio and now it looks to be one of the easiest.
They do however have Anna and Versailles in their region which maybe one of the weaker regions they have been in in a long time.

WJ's scrimmages will include @ London,@ Bloom Carroll & Home with Zane Trace.
Zane Trace was a good pickup, they were league champs the last 4 years.
Week 1 against the Columbus Crusaders- What happened here????
I know next year, Ready comes to WJ in week 2 that game has been signed, not sure how long of a deal that will be.
But, for this season.

Crusaders- (7-3 in 2016), They did beat a 5-5 D-2 Whetstone team (20.3-12.9) per game
@ Adena- (6)- (3-7), (18.3-28.6) per game
Greenon- (5) - (0-10), (9.3-39.4) per game
@ Cedarville- (7)- (0-10), (5.1-47.2) per game
Springfield Cent. Cath.-(7)- (6-4), (26.7-18.1) per game
@ Fairbanks-(6)- (2-8), (24.7-36.3)
Burg-(6), (12-1), (42-8.4)
@ N. Eastern-(6), (5-5), (25.1-27.1)
@ W. Liberty Salem-(6), (6-5), 33.3-20.6)
Triad- (7), (1-9), (15.1-44.6)
The points in parentheses are points last year the tears scored on offense and gave up on defense.
Adena is (79-63) in their last 142 games and (64-34) in league play.
Greenon is (39-100) in their last 139 games and (25-44) in their league.
Cedarville is (35-103) in their last 138 games and (18-79) in the league
SCC is (91-65) in their last 156 games and (59-39) in the league.
Fairbanks is (65-75) in their last 140 games and (51-39) in league.
Burg is (116-46) in their last 162 games including (73-24) in league play.
N. Eastern is (61-80) in their last 141 games and (49-49) in the league.
W. Liberty Salem is (127-33) in the last 160 games including (81-17) in the league.
Triad is (88-69) in their last 157 games and (54-44) in the league.

Burg returns only 3 starters on both sides of the ball this year and for the first time in 4 years they have to replace a QB.
They do return (RB/LB) Knapp (sr) and other important players (OL/DL) Cannon Propst(sr) and (WR/DB) Joey Mascadri (jr).
Burg is the 3 time returning league champs!

Triad should be the most improved team this season returning 9 starters on offense and 8 on D including their QB, RB, WR, OL and their best defender.
5-9 170 (RB-OLB) Andy Martin (sr)
6-0 220 (OL/DL) Riley Louck (jr)
5-9 165 (RB-LB) Dylan Rice (jr)
Their 2016 JV team did finish 3-3 but most of the starters last year for Triad was freshman and sophomore.

WLS does return a few big names in
6-4 270 (OL/DL) Trevor Burden (sr)
5-10 190 (RB-LB) Branden Miller (sr)
5-7 150 (WR-DB) Levi Moell (sr)

So, the years that WJ entered a new league they went on to win that league the same year. I wonder if they can do it again this year.
This will be the 1st year since 2009 that WJ has a QB returning.

If Anna And Versailles can make the playoffs.
They would probably be the favorites to win the region I would think.
But, they have to try and make it through the dreaded MAC first.

West Jeff's offense was really good last year against the MSL. With the QB returning and the move to the OHC I'd be surprised if they don't win at least 8 games this year.Their offense will torch a lot of the OHC teams on their schedule.

Let's hope so.. 8 wins in two seasons is not typical WJ football. The junior and senior classes are seasoned players with lots of talent. Should be fun to watch.

The last 2 years should of produced much better results!
The offense was pretty good at times but the defense was just plain awful!
Not a typical wj defense, something has to change and fast.
New defensive coordinator something.

This season, the offense should be really good depending again on how good the O-line comes together.
The running game should be very good and the passing should be to just depending on how the wr's develop.
For the defense, let's just hope it's much improved!

Good to see Lambert getting some attention out there. Will be interested to see how he ends his high school career.

Lambert did a lot of work in the off season including having a great 11th grade season as a top pitcher with the baseball Roughriders.
He has been selected to play in one of the senior bowls coming up after his senior season, I will have to get back on here after I look that back up and see which one.

If cincy hills Christian gets past cold water last year they would have won state. Imagine they have a new crop of players recruiting nut the program. A couple of easy catches they dropped cost them the game and th tun. With that said, they will win the region

It has been a couple of tough years for the WJ brethren. As indicated earlier I too really, really hope they can revive the historic WJ attitude and get back to tough, hardnose football, especially on defense. Too many lackluster performances by the Riders, where often times it seemed they were defeated before they even suited up. I can't stand seeing head hanging and defeated attitudes on the field, and hopefully the coaches and the current year leadership can pull them out of the funk.
The schedule is what the schedule is and I never like to use having a tough schedule as an excuse for a sub par year or performance. I want to see WJ compete with passion i don't care who is on the schedule. We do that and good things will happen.
Go Riders, some new stadiums to visit this year!!!

Did they end up having it? I know it got pushed back to noon because of the rain. I couldn’t make it out for the later time.

Did not make it but the grapevine talk for what it's worth was that they did pretty well. Passing game was as anticipated, but see if we can balance the attack with at least a bit of a run game. Will also be interested to see if we can protect our QB when things get cranked up to full speed tomorrow.
Defense did pretty well and seemed to be better at getting numbers to the ball, but still need to work on tackling!!!! Did give up some longer runs, but could have been as kids were rotating.
i really want to see the toughman mentality resurface where these kids punch people in the mouth and just don't quite playing hardnose football until they wear the other team out or simply the clock expires.

Best of luck to West Jeff. Maybe we get that Milton-Union vs West Jeff matchup. MU bowed out in last years playoff to CHCA. They had a great team. No Coldwater this year. Versalles, Anna and CHCA will be favorites.

I’d add Mariemont and Middletown Madison to the playoff list. Madison is picked to win our league this year.

I also pasted this post to the OHC 2017 thread!

WJ in their scrimmage against London this year was really hitting on D.
It had to be the hardest hitting wj scrimmage that I have seen since the 1980 scrimmages against Ready.
It was also the most flagged scrimmage I have ever seen PERIOD!
They showed a lot of passing on offense and Lambert at QB will have a great season throwing the ball.
This will be the first season that wj will return a qb since the 2009 season. (Mendenhall)
Then against Bloom Carroll, they really took it to them as well.
I already see a difference in this team from last years team especially on defense.
I know it's preseason but they looked a lot better now then this time a year ago.
Not saying that wj will come in and run the league but I convinced they will have a better season then last year and maybe win more games then the last 2 seasons combined.
With wj only have a 9 game schedule this year (Columbus Crusaders in week 1), I believe they will have to at least finish 9-1 to make the playoffs and that might not guarantee a home game!

The O-line is coming along and should be ready by week and get only better.
(G) G. Doran, 2nd team pre season All-Ohio and (C) C. Howard, Honorable mention will anchor the O-line.
(RB/LB) Hunter Braithwaite should do well at RB and make some holes at FB.
At the WR spot, wj will run a 5 wr set at times and any 5 of the wr's can run, catch and block for the other receivers.
On the defensive side of the ball.
The D-line looks to be better.
Braithwaite on D will also be solid at the LB spot along with Howard and the defensive backfield should be better then last year.
Especially the tackling!

If anyone was at the London scrimmage and seen #71 for London get hurt?
Hearing from him and his family, he tore his meniscus and ACL.
The kid is a senior and a 4 sport athlete and he may be back for baseball season if everything goes good.
I wanted to wish him the best!
