On the bright side it looks old. They will get a brand new press box

The locker room and concession stand were also destroyed. Hopefully insurance will cover the repairs.

Johnstown stadium fire: ‘Our hearts are broken, but we’re going to shake it off’

Quote:
The sign on the press box at Johnstown High School’s Frank H. Chambers Stadium reads “One Team, One Heartbeat.”

Passersby could still make out the slogan Monday on the front of the charred remains of the football field press box, a day after an early morning blaze destroyed locker rooms, a concession stand and other parts of the longtime athletics facility.

State and local investigators were on site Monday morning, working to determine what caused the fire that destroyed “that little building [that] meant a lot to this community,” said Johnstown-Monroe School District Superintendent Dale Dickson.

Based on the one and only article I read on this event I'm assuming nobody was hurt....I certainly hope not....therefore I think using the word "catastrophic" is slightly misleading. Anyway, hope all turns out well.

If there were a fire at PBTS that destroyed the press box, locker rooms and concession stand how would it be viewed in Massilon? How would you feel about the loss of all those photos in the team room?

Don't really know where "Massilon" is....but if it happened in "Massillon", I'd feel horrible....but, if nobody was hurt, I'd probably use the word "unfortunate" over "catastrophy" is all I'm saying, the PB, LR and CS will all be replaced.

Don’t really know what a “catastrophy” is, but I think this qualifies as a catastrophe.

You mean the photos that they have copies of at the Massillon museum that can all be replaced? In this day and age it is ridiculous if you lose something historical and can't copy and replace it. As for catastrophic, it would be if it had happened mid-season, turns out it happened just after the finish of the season. Plenty of time to replace the old stuff with brand new before the start of next season, as long as it wasn't arson done by someone affiliated with the school and insurance covers it. I get that nobody wants a fire to happen, but, all can be replaced with better and it sounds like they were due to have that done soon anyway.

As opposed to 'unintentional' arson?

I fixed that minor mistake, so now you can stop your "intentional" trolling.

It’s a relative term and was likely used because of the loss severity. It was a near total loss in terms of utility.

If 1% of a 10,000 acre wooded parcel was destroyed by fire, it likely wouldn’t be called “catastrophic”. But if 95% of a 10 acre wooded parcel was detroyed, it might be considered a catastrophic loss to the owner. However, which fire caused more damage?

They believe it was exposed wiring in the attic and not arson.

Was kind of thinking the same when they said it was in the attic. Hate to see an old press box like that being destroyed, yes it can & will be replaced, but you can’t replace the history or all the memory’s of it.

I understand that the history and memories are irreplaceable. But if it was old enough to have exposed wiring it's actually a lucky thing that it happened after season end and that nobody was in there and possibly injured, like could have happened had it been during the season. Always two sides to the coin, the better side came up on this one, it could have been much worse.

Well played, but not likely.

“Tragedy” would be the mostly likely adjective in a news headline about a (couple) people killed a fire of this sort. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reference to an event like that being called a catastrophe...no matter the death total actually. It doesn’t always hold true, by definition, but generally catastrophies refer to property damage or large-scale natural disasters and tragedies refer to loss of human life.
