Works just fine for me.

It's a .docx document. Maybe you can't open those on whatever device you are using.

Happy, thanks for posting the list.

I noticed Hector Gomez and Christian Gomez from Columbus DeSales are both listed as Seniors, but on last year's All-State honors, Hector was listed as a Junior and Christian as a Sophomore. Does anybody know if they're both Seniors or does Christian return next year?

The omission of Alter's Ty Borton was a bit surprising, although Dominic Ruffolo was recognized. I know it's difficult to get two on the list, so I assume Alter must have nominated Ruffolo over Borton. Both had outstanding seasons.

Congratulations to all.

I do not know how many allocations the MVSSCA (local association for Kettering Alter) had to the all-state team. However, one thing you will see at the local coaches association meeting is that coaches may choose to only put one kid up for all-state to avoid the splitting of votes. If the coach only puts one kid up, only one kid can get recognized.

NOTE: I do not know if this how that went down for Kettering Alter's kids, just speculating.

I seem to remember seeing or reading someplace that to be nominated for All State you have to make the District team. Which Borton wasn't. That might just be a MVSSCA rule. Not sure.

I can understand that rule, but Borton not making the MV district team is complete junk.

Let's be honest. The system doesn't exactly pick the best kids in the state.

There's a ton of politics involved at every level.

I said it last year and will say it again this year....I think they should fill a real roster of some sort like football. Some agreed upon combination of the different positions. The way it is now padding stats are encouraged because goals and assists are what voters see when they otherwise don't know the player. Nevermind that for some players a good amount of those goals are against not very good teams. As a result, you have all state teams that are heavily weighted with offensive players.

There is a Miami Valley South team and a Miami Valley North team. To be eligible for All State honors, you have to make the combined All Miami Valley team.

This is where it's tough because teams in the North typically vote for each other and teams in the South like to vote for each other, making the Miami Valley team almost equal in terms of North/South representation. With Carroll being out this year, it takes away the players they may have gotten on the team, but also takes away a vote from someone who would have likely advocated for the "best soccer players" making the team.

Look at Division II. Tipp City, Benjamin Logan, Bellefontaine, Kenton Ridge, and Northwestern are represented from the North. Tipp City makes sense. The rest? I'm not so sure.

39 boys in D1 made 1st or 2nd Team and 56 or 59 lost count made 1st or 2nd Team in D2 .

Seems to me thats way to many and diminishes the Award .

Could see 25-28 Total. On 1st and 2nd Teams combined.

And then have a 3rd Team with another 12-13

Ignoring strength of schedule elevates players who have scored or assisted against clearly weaker teams. Scoring 90 goals on teams with no or a couple wins is ridiculous. I️ have seen to many good deserving players passed over because of politics and voting players down to reduce their points. It is sad.

I would like to see that too, but padded stats rule! Mostly midfielders and forwards on the list.

I can't speak for local ... at the state level per OSSCA ...

18 first team, 36 second team in each division
The number of all-state placers from each of the ten associations is based on a ratio of member schools from an association to the total member schools in the state association
The top "x" number of players in each district association process are picked for all-state. So the source of all-state is the district association process.

At least in my district association, the all-state voting is done first independently of the all-district teams. Coaches put kids up for all-state and then the all-state vote happens; all-state players are the first players on the all-district team. From my experience in the meeting(s), many coaches put their "cards" on one player for all state, as it can be tough to get multiple on all state unless it's obvious as hell.

Question - Is there an All-state academic award? I have seen some people say they are All-State Academic but have never seen a list anywhere.

It goes to seniors on varsity teams with above a certain GPA. Probably too many players to list, but that's how it works for soccer.

You mean scoring 60 goals in mostly 14-1 and 17-0 games isn't a big deal? Nooooo.......

In some areas it goes by how well your team did more than anything else. Better record, more spots.

You have other areas where they just let each coach pick 2 kids, no matter how well the team did. A team that makes it to a regional final gets just as many kids as the team that hasn't won a game in 2 years.

And if the coach's son plays? Forget about it....

And if your coach is an idiot and doesn't show to these meetings your whole team gets nothing. Seen that happen before.

Also, in regard to the position thing, in football what happens many times is good QBs and RBs get some of the defensive spots because they only list so many QBs and RBs. You often times get a very good QB that played a little CB or S end up listed on the defensive side.

A really good CB, S or even LB often gets screwed in those lists.

I think it would be pretty cool to get and All-State XI at the end of the season. Then again, you'd end up with a keeper, 5 center mids and 5 strikers probably.

I guess, in short, once you see how the sausage is made, you don't pay attention to these lists much. You deal feel bad for some of the deserving kids though.

Not really. From where I am from, students from the surrounding area are allowed to double up on sports in a season. So some kids played soccer and football, & are mostly the teams extra point kicker.
