Where did Darrin Ford coach and what was his record?

Did he coach inner-city kids?

So they are hiring a guy with either a bad losing record (according to above post) or a young guy who’s young but has a D1 coach as a dad but no real accomplishment as a head coach? Way to go McKinley, great choice!

Wasn't endorsing Beshara, just stating that he was the coach at Rootstown this past year.

His record may be a little misleading as he went 0-23 in 2012-13, which I believe was his 2nd year there. They've been respectable in recent seasons.

You never know how or who these interviewing committees are going to pick a coach. My big question has always been , do you have a least 2 former or current basketball coaches on the committee ? Usually not , then what happens is the biggest BS er or most experienced interviewer wins. Most schools have a very flawed system in hiring in general.

Agreed - The problem is that I think the admins and most of the fans think this job IS what it used to be.

Even though the job isn't what it used to be, I am sure they have the insight to hire a coach who has some experience. I am all in for the young aspect of it. It would be good to get a coach who will be there for a long time. However, while this job isn't what it used to be, it is still a job that should have a coach who has accomplishments, not just high profile connections. Or.....a good interviewer.

There was a guy with over 300 wins, a guy who was state coach of the year, a college coach. I mean they could've narrowed it to a better list than these two. No offense to them personally, I am sure they are nice guys. But c'mon......

Agree. Also ,most want a coach for a long time but those days are about done. Hire your very best applicant and see what happens for 2-3 years and then reevaluate. Good luck Pups.

I just don't believe those two are the last ones standing. We truly won't know until they post who the coach is. Those two names make absolutely no sense !!

When your population declines you don't have the pool anymore to consistently get great players.

Don't get me wrong, the McKinley job is one that is a good job, but if you think that it is a better job than say, Jackson, I think you are nuts. McKinley simply has more history.

I don't think McKinley is a better job than any where. I was just asking why someone thought it had changed.

McKinley is the best job in Ohio hs hoops. A good coach can win a state championship here, unlike the vast majority of the other schools. We've been out-coached the last few years, and before that, had the Timken problem. That's gone, and the naysayers will eat their words IF we hire the right guy.

The final 2 are Vlajkovich and Ford.

Vlajkovich has been Head Coach at Warren Harding for past 7 years and seems like is in the running because of his experience in coaching inner city kids and he has been successful without the same caliber of kids Canton has minus the Culver time.

Interesting that Vlajkovich is in the mix given what was Greg Malone was quoted as saying from when the applicant list was announced. http://www.cantonrep.com/sports/2018...-bryant-bowden
Quote:
Malone said the district is “not planning on targeting people” for the position and that “in all probability” the next head coach will come from this group.

If everyone thought you were correct, then every head coach would be applying and that is not happening.

so if you do not win you can always say you did not hire the right guy.

Did he even apply or did they contact him ? His name isn’t on the list of applicants.

If memory serve me right the Warren coach was going to take the McKinley job a few years back but Noftz ended up getting the job. There was a connection there somewhere and for some reason didn't get the job or take the job. Why? That part I don't remember.

McKinley is a really good job but not what it used to be. They struggle to win their league or finish in top 3 let alone a trip to Columbus. Again, good luck

It's May 02, 2018

I'm in the dark with both of these candidates. I'm hoping the school board makes the right call.

Wonder if there will be anyone will abandon the ship ???

Raymo, Have an idea what they are building in the Parklot adjacent to the Canton McKinley High School. They have it fence off.
I know it's not the Football Locker Building.

This is IUDOGS signing off.
