Christmas Bonus

Do you receive a Christmas Bonus? Or if you own a company do you give one out? Does everyone get around the same?

I find it funny how some people feel they are entitled to one or think they should have gotten more. My boss gives everyone an extra paycheck for that week, whatever your salary is. Not sure how he does it with hourly workers. I think that's more than fair.

Some people were upset that it isn't fair some get more than others depending on their salary. Curious if others have any weird work place drama because of Xmas bonuses

Not a Christmas bonus. We get it in February/March. Depends on how we do vs. competition.

The company I work for gives out profit sharing every year the first week of December.

It's based off of over all profit margin , company growth and a personal review. Historically they have been any where from 5-10 % of your annual salary

I demand gifts from my employees. I am doing them a favor by providing them a place to make a living. It's the least they can do during the holidays is to show some appreciation.

I do $100 per person in gift cards (Target or Amazon).

The "real" bonus comes once the financials for the completed year are finished.

Got 10% of salary this year. No guaranteed Christmas bonus, just part of performance. We do often get a Christmas bonus though. Last year was over 20% of salary.

Thatís a nice bonus. When is your fiscal year end that you pay out over the holidays? Assume FYE September?

No bonus but almost as good starts 2nd week in January.
6 week working trip to Hawaii (MCAS Kaneohe Bay), plus they'll pickup the tab on my wife
for 2 weeks. I'll be training Marine pilots on the latest use of targeting avionics
and enlisted personnel on the maintenance of the hardware.

4 day work week!!!

We do spot bonuses as well, up to $2500, that are given throughout the year for exemplary performance and recognition. This year there was a surplus remaining and my management team had a nomination process. People love getting those spot bonuses.

As a former business owner, I gave a Christmas bonus of 5% of their annual salary. My wife works in the health insurance business. They used to receive large bonuses but competition in the industry has eliminated those. No worries--just live with what you have.

We have performance bonuses that are paid out on the last paycheck before Christmas. Strictly performance based. Can range from zero to low 4 digits. Mine was somewhere in the middle

Arrogate, this is a no win situation for the employer. You do it once, and people expect it every year, regardless of how the company performs. Many people are so narrow minded and just never see the big picture. I'm sure many companies can offer a bonus at the end of the year, not necessarily a Christmas bonus, but because it's at the end of the year it gets labeled as one. But companies can get a tax break if they give that money to employees, it's going to get taxed anyway. Remember that insane notion that companies and the wealthy don't pay their fair share of taxes???

Yes. Our Christmas bonus is 2% of our annual salary, but still heavily taxed like any other income.

If itís truly supplemental income, it should be withheld at that higher supplemental rate.

I give people the option to change their tax frequency to monthly or quarterly for our Christmas bonuses. The bonus is about 15% of their annual salary so the tax change can make a big difference. Some people prefer having more during the holidays then deal with the ramifications come tax time.
