DII - Boardman Northeast District tourney

With just two weeks from "Selection Sunday", the draw for what should be a very competitive Division II Boardman Northeast District tournament is rapidly approaching us. First of all, the Captain likes the return of this tourney to Boardman after a two year hiatus spent up north in Warren. Second, this tourney got significantly better with the addition of Ursuline who moved up from DIII to DII where they just dominated for years. Ursuline, the two-time defending district champ in DIII, was most everyone's preseason favorite to win this district tourney, and with the tough schedule they play, I am not sure that has changed. Poland, the two-time defending champion district champ in DII, have always been a consistent favorite in this tourney - having won nine District titles in the past 23 years under Head Coach Ken Grisdale - but they have had this success without having to deal with the likes of Ursuline! Again, just two weeks out until the draw and a lot could change between now and then, but here is how the Captain currently sees the Boardman tourney draw:

1) Poland Seminary 13-1
2) Ursuline 8-5 ?
3) Canfield 12-3
4) Cardinal Mooney 7-5
5) Salem 7-5
6) Girard 7-6 ?
7) Niles McKinley 7-7
8) Beloit West Branch 5-8 ?
9) Ravenna Southeast 5-7 ?
10) Struthers 4-7
11) Cortland Lakeview 4-11
12) Hubbard 1-10 ?

I see Poland as the team to beat. If the Irish still had David Collins I would have said they would be the favorite. Canfield seems to be playing well.

I agree. I'm taking Poland over Canfield.

Despite records, Struthers, Lakeview, and Hubbard are better than Southeast.

It was early in the season but Southeast beat Hubbard by 16 if memory serves correctly.

Good win for the Quakers last night over Canton South, 60-56, to go to 9-6, I believe.

1. Poland
2. Canfield
3. Ursuline
4. Mooney

Salem can beat Mooney if they can get in that bracket.

I'll take Cards over Dogs in the Final.
