Mount Saint Joseph University Announces 3 Assistant Coaches

Mount Saint Joseph University would like to announce the addition of three assistant wrestling coaches. Josh Sasfy, Orlando Scales and Charles Mason will join new head coach Elliott Spence as assistant coaches for the 2017-18 season. The addition of these three gives MSJ University coaches covering all weight classes and much needed coverage around the state of Ohio. Orlando, Charles and Josh all have a wealth of wrestling knowledge and all wrestled at the college level. More importantly, each has strong ties not only in southwest Ohio, but around the country. Welcome to the Mount Saint Joseph family!

Josh Sasfy: Joshua Sasfy comes from Reynoldsburg, Ohio where he was a 4-year Varsity Wrestler. State Qualifier in 2003 and Team Captain. He is a MSJ wrestling Alum and was a four year Varsity Wrestler, Academic All American and multiple time Regional Placer. He comes from a wrestling family with 2 brothers wrestling in college as well - Tommy Sasfy (Kent State) and Nick Sasfy (University of Cumberlands). Josh has coached the previous 7 years at Mason High school who was ranked 31st in the nation last year, 7 consecutive GMC championships, 6 top 5 district finishes. He brings an international flavor to MSJ being the owner of Barbarian Apparel who outfitted 8 Olympic teams in the Rio Olympics and has customers in 15 different countries. He hopes to use his contacts internationally to help give the MSJ wrestlers an opportunity most teams do not get. Josh currently lives in Norwood, OH with his wife Jennifer and his dog, Lolo.

Charles Mason: A native of Cincinnati, OH, Charles Mason attended Princeton High School where he was a two time state qualifier and placed 4th in 2010. Charles wrestled collegiately at Notre Dame College under coaches Frank Romano (Current Notre Dame College Head Wrestling coach) and Anthony Ralph (Current Ohio State Assistant wrestling Coach) where he was a 2012 NCWA All-American and 2013 NCAA National Qualifier. He served as a team captain for the Notre Dame College Falcons in 2014 and joined the staff as an assistant coach in 2015. Post graduating he returned to Cincinnati where he coached at his alma mater Princeton High School, and assisted with the Cincinnati Vikings youth wrestling program. Charles Mason currently is employed at St Joseph Orphanage Altercrest, where he serves as the Dean of Students.

Orlando Scales: A native of Cincinnati, OH , Orlando Scales is a well-known name around the Southwest OH wrestling scene. Orlando completed his high school career at Elder with a 125-9 record with state finishes of 3rd, 1st and 1st, including an 88-0 run during his junior and senior seasons. Orlando saw a lot of success on the national level in Freestyle and Greco as he was a 4-time All-American at the USA Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. After graduating from Elder, Orlando went on to compete at Notre Dame College where he was an NAIA runner-up and NAIA national champion. The Notre Dame Falcons were NAIA national dual champions both years as well. Orlando was a NCAA All-American (5th) when Notre Dame transitioned to NCAA Division 2 and the team took 2nd at the NCAA national dual championships. Orlando lives on the Westside of Cincinnati with his wife, Ashley.

This is a really nice group of coaches that Elliot has brought together. I think they will relate well to the local athletes, with each bringing a little something different to the staff. I'm excited to see what they can get going there.

From all of us at Mason, we will miss Coach Sasfy. He was a class act and a beloved figure in our program.
